Your draft article, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Oncolex - oncology encyclopedia

edit

Hello Mapnah. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Oncolex - oncology encyclopedia".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Oncolex - oncology encyclopedia}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 21:30, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

Hi, I've noticed your addition of images, on Commons and Wikipedia. I think this raises a number of issues:

  • You've uploaded the images, which are sourced from the Oncolex site run by the University of Oslo hospital, and carry the website address in the image, under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. To do this you need to demonstrate that you are authorised by Oncolex to release them, even if you are the actual creator. You should follow the procedure at [Commons:OTRS] (which has Norweigan versions - menu at left).
  • It may be necessary to remove the Oncolex watermark from what is uploaded. I would seek advice from OTRS. Surely you have larger file sizes? And svg files are more useful, if you have them.
  • Assuming that is done, please use far more specific categories than "Medical illustrations" - see the many sub-categories for all the parts of the anatomy.
  • You have added only images you have uploaded. When the images are correctly categorized, you will often find that there are other images more suitable for use on the English Wikipedia, for example because they have captions in English, or more detail. As a Wikipedia editor who (I imagine) has a conflict of interest due to connection to Oncolex (see WP:COI) you are obliged to act in the best interest of Wikipedia, not Oncolex. I also have a conflict of interest, with Cancer Research UK, but of the 390 images we have uploaded, I think I have only added 2 to articles, after checking there were no better alternatives.
  • There should be a link to Oncolex on the Commons file page, but not in the Wikipedia article.

Please let me know if you have any queries. Wiki CRUK John (talk) 16:10, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mapnah! Thank you for uploading the images. As John said, yes, these pictures do seem to be copyrighted by Oncolex. If you have a relationship with Oncolex and permission to share and upload these copyrighted images, then please say so and I will help you with getting a statement from Oncolex donating these images. The most usual form is at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries.
Also as John said, larger pictures without a watermark are desirable, but Wikipedia accepts all kinds of donations. Be aware of this and Wikipedia's license agreement but I am grateful for your donation as it is.
Conflict of interest here can be a problem but I also wish that health organizations would share their content more freely with Wikipedia, and if you have pictures to share, I would support your integrating them into Wikipedia articles wherever pictures are needed. Conflict of interest is serious but I do not see a threat here, and am really happy that you are trying to share pictures.
If you need help then drop in at WikiProject Medicine's talk page and say hello to other Wikipedians who edit health articles.
The most important thing to sort soon is the copyright issue. It is not apparent that Oncolex is putting their copyrighted images into the public domain, as you have asserted when you uploaded them, and soon we need a statement from the organization confirming this. We need you to answer the questions regarding copyright before you continue editing. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 01:51, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I am new to contributing to wikimedia and very grateful for all your advice. I will see to it so that the correct authorization form Oncolex is sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org (?). Oncolex and Oslo University Hospital hope to make several contributions (illustrations and media files) to wikipedia-articles. Best regards Mapnah
Great. Images without watermarks are generally needed. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 15:15, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
If images are to be admitted without the watermark, how do they link with the approval from Oncolex?
We give credit on Commons. This is the same with all images. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 11:14, 1 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
