Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Maggiehohle. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Ioan Robert Allen, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Charleen Kinser

edit

Hello! WP is my hobby, and that's true for most people you'll meet around here. I think I've found sources to meet the demands of WP:N, and if it's ok with you, I can try to start an article about her. It will probably look nothing like you would write it, for one thing I can only use the WP:RS I find online, but I have access to the WP:LIBRARY and that helps. OTOH, I know the "rules" and so far none of my articles (User:Gråbergs_Gråa_Sång#Articles_I_started) have been deleted.

You can reply on this talkpage, I'm watching it (not 24/7). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 22:23, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. I would be happy for you to start an article about her. I have the articles I mentioned in the publications I mentioned, and I can scan those for your use, if you like. The reason I wanted to put this article up is that the Strong National Museum of Play is beginning to acquire pieces and books by Charleen Kinser. (Kinser wrote three books on craft in the mid 1970s, in addition to working as a crafts editor for Sphere, the Betty Crocker Magazine, and American Home Crafts.) The books she wrote are Sewing Sculpture, Outdoor Art for Kids, and Personally Yours, Needlepoint. Maggiehohle (talk) 22:53, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, if you can put scans so I can grab them at google drive or somewhere, that would be very good. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:38, 25 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Maggie. Now that Gråbergs Gråa Sång is on the case, you can relax as he has a long history of writing acceptable articles. One very useful thing you can do, where your COI is irrelevant, is to upload to Wikimedia Commons a good photo of your mother that you personally took with your own camera. Similarly, photos you took of her toys would be of interest and could be included in a limited way in the article and with a link back to Commons if there were too many to include them all (see WP:NOTGALLERY). Hi there. Here is a Google Driver folder with the scans of articles written about Charleen Kinser in industry magazines. Please let me know if you have any questions. [1] Maggiehohle (talk) 00:03, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I just clicked that I wanted access to the folder (it wasn't public), so presumably you'll see that somewhere. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:20, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK. I gave you access. Maggiehohle (talk) 19:17, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
That worked. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:01, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Terrific, thank you. I also have Charleen's hand-typed resumes and other published work, including tear sheets from crafts magazines (Charleen's early explorations of media and craft), and her published books that I can share with you if you'd like. Maggiehohle (talk) 21:11, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Probably not, but I'll get back to you. The goal for a WP-article about a person is to be a summary of WP:RS that are independent of that person, and there are some grey-areas. WP:ABOUTSELF stuff has very limited use here. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:05, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Btw, you may enjoy this story [2] by Judith Newman. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:01, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I have news, unexpectedly (for me) mixed. Charleen Kinser is now an article, and I'm fairly sure no one will think it should be deleted. Like everything else around here, it's a work in progress. Being who you are, you should not edit it directly yourself (you can revert obvious vandalism, it does happen), but you are welcome to suggest changes and sources at Talk:Charleen Kinser.
Also, while looking for sources, I stumbled on a mention of Tom Kinser's murder, and I'm very sorry. Having found it, I think it's a relevant part of the biography, so I added it. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:28, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
