ISP Project edit

My ISP project will focus on the neurosciences. After discussing with my advisor, I decided that the ISP would be most helpful to me if I explored the field I was hoping to enter. Wikipedia has been most helpful to me as a resource to get an idea about the topic and as a starting point for research. So for this ISP, I would like to contribute to neuroscience Wiki articles in a helpful way.

ISP Articles edit

Cerebrum

This page has no citations in its Structure and Functions sections.

Nervous Tissue

This page has no citations at all, as well as being rather sparse and short. The wording is convoluted and confusing at times.

Computational neuroscience

Article as a whole is hard to understand, especially for a beginner. Also needs additional citations.

Nice work! edit

Note from New College Instructor (Theresa) edit

Hi there! The information you've added on your talk page about how you want to improve the articles you have chosen is helpful. Please take a look at the Course Talk Page when you get a chance. There is a Welcome note from the Wikiproject Anatomy, and I believe that it was prompted by your article list. If you have any questions at this point, please let me know. Otherwise, we can plan to meet on Monday the 26th. Happy editing! Tburress (talk) 21:32, 16 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia edit

Hi Lehession. I work with the Wiki Education Foundation, and help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment. I'm glad you picked important articles that lack citations. One thing to bear in mind is that the standards for citations for medical-related articles is supposed to be higher than the general standard for sources in Wikipedia articles. (I know, that's not the case in the articles you picked!) There's a special guideline for sources for medical articles, WP:MEDRS. We have a (printable) brochure to help with that, which I've linked to on the right here.

While any additional sources are likely to improve these articles, I would recommend using the highest-quality sources you can find. If there's anything else I can do to help with your assignment (or, for that matter, any other aspect of Wikipedia) please feel free to drop me a note.
