Fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTBALL. Has not played first-team football in a fully professional league or received significant media coverage.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Re-creation of "Cathal Pendred" as "Cathal Pendred (fighter)" edit

Hi, just letting you know that a page about this person Cathal Pendred has been deleted FIVE times, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cathal Pendred. The "Cathal Pendred" page name has been 'salted' to prevent re-creation. That's why you had to name it Cathal Pendred (fighter). Just so you know if you cop some flak. --220 of Borg 06:08, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Cathal Pendred edit

I didn't actually name it that to get around anything. I thought it was the convention. Being told that it has been deleted 5 times has reminded me why I stopped editing wikipedia and has encouraged me to figure out how to close my account so that I don't waste my time again. Ridiculously arbitrary notability rules serve no purpose. LOI Statistics (talk) 07:11, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm no expert on the exact naming criteria, but a name like Cathal Pendred isn't common! Some way of telling more common names apart (disambiguating) is required, like:
So simple "Cathal Penred", would be the correct page name.I discovered the deletions when I tried to move your page Cathal Pendred (fighter) to Cathal Pendred as the 'fighter' is unnecessary.
As for wp:notability rules, I doubt they are 'arbitrary'. They have been developed over many years and there are masses of discussion about such things. Specifically see Wikipedia:WikiProject Mixed martial arts/MMA notability.
Remember Wikipedia is an on-line encyclopaedia, not a venue for advertising, or personal theories. If we didn't have some notability rules then it would be full of advertisements for the local pizza parlour, grandoise, unsourced or white-washed auto-biographies and other utter crap!
You can't really close your account, but you have a wp:right to vanish, and apparently it is possible to 'scramble' your password, making it impossible to log onto that account again.220 of Borg 11:23, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Cathal Pendred (fighter) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Cathal Pendred (fighter), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
