RfA

Thank you for your interest in helping out as an administrator, but I think you'll need to gain more experience before you consider adminship. One technical requirement is knowing how to do stuff - you don't need to know every last thing, but creating an RfA correctly is one fundamental skill. A greater familiarity with the process is also advisable, as it's generally not an easy or pleasant process if you are at all unsure of policy or are short of experience in a variety of areas. Having an unformatted Ds/aware heading on this page, or your statement on your userpage that "I don't really know a lot about Wikipedia, but I know enough to edit articles and stuff" will bring immediate opposition. If you're interested in eventually helping out as an administrator, please start with WP:RFAADVICE and read all the essays and guides. They will give you a much better idea of what's expected. If I may guess, your message will be deleted like all others before, perhaps with an edit summary like in Special:Diff/1171230377, which is surely more convenient than setting up an archive and responding in the way an administrator would be expected to. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 13:56, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
There's that too, but it's worth a try. Acroterion (talk) 14:05, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
I've created (I think) an archive page for my talk page.? Have I done it right? L1amw90 14:46, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Hey, thanks!
Almost. I have now added the needed bot template so that archiving happens automatically. You can modify the parameters by editing the top of this page. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 14:57, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Ah, and one thing – I think a large part of the technical difficulties you're experiencing is because you're using a mobile device and the mobile website design. If you have access to a desktop computer, please really really consider using it at least for complex tasks such as dealing with templates and pages in the Wikipedia namespace. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:01, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

If you had successfully started an RfA, my first question would be "Do you think this is acceptable conduct for an administrator?" Concentrate on writing an encyclopedia, then if people think you could make use of the administrative tools, they'll ask you. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:41, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

Ritchie333 i do tend to use the desktop site (whenever needed), but regarding the RFA... I did look on all the RFA pages, and could not figure out which one to use. Even after reading the "read this thoroughly" etc, I did click on the new tab to put a request in. Also, is there a way to restore ALL my talk page messages in one go, as you can see I do delete them, but now I have the archive set up, is there a way I could restore them all and archive them? "I did look on all the RFA pages, and could not figure out which one to use." And that was your fatal error, unfortunately. If you had waited until somebody had asked you if you were interested in being an administrator, and agreed to nominate, they would have done all this for you. If you had posted on WP:ORCP saying instead "Hi, I'm thinking about asking for administrator privileges over the next year, and just wondering what my chances are - I've done a lot of content work and participated in a couple of project pages" you would have got far more reasonable answers.
There isn't an easy way to restore old talk page messages, other than going to the history, viewing old versions of the page, and copy and pasting them into the relevant archive page manually. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:31, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

There is a discussion about highest attendances in the info box on WikiProject Rugby league (which can be found here). Northern Wonder (talk) 14:50, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Oh right, I didn't see this. I'll remember it for next season's attendances etc. L1amw90 14:57, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Castleford 2024 transfers

Hi, I'm just wondering the reasoning behind recent removal of content from the gains/losses/loans tables in the Castleford Tigers 2024 transfers section. The deletion of the content isn't explained, and seems to me to remove helpful and relevant details. This includes all mention of the Innes Senior loan signing, as well as dates and squad numbers. I'm not aware of any required format for such transfer tables, so if this exists I'd appreciate a pointer. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to reintroduce the deleted content. Cheers Ieatseatbelts (talk) 17:37, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

hi. I'm not sure if there should be 3 different references for each transfer, that's why I deleted them. By all means add them back, I just thought it looked a bit untidy with 3 references.

November 2023

Hello, I'm ZimZalaBim. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Oscar Pistorius seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ZimZalaBim talk 03:14, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

There's nothing wrong with what I put. I was only stating that he's got another hearing on 24 November. Whats wrong with that?... L1amw90 03:19, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
There certainly is. You were plainly editorializing in Wikipedia’s voice, and you removed a reference to do so. That’s not acceptable. Reread your edit. Acroterion (talk) 03:45, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
the reference I removed didn't have a URL link to it. It was showing as an error, hence why I removed it, and added a reference for his upcoming parole. Don't know who added the reference, but it definitely had no URL to it... L1amw90 03:47, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
… And your editorial commentary? You are avoiding the central issue. Acroterion (talk) 03:49, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
I've put it back to how it was. I was only trying to help by adding suggestions regarding his parole... @Acroterion this is what I was on about.... Under the ==reference== tag, it shows this...

Davies, Gareth A. [interviewer] (23 May 2007), "My sport: Oscar Pistorius", The Daily Telegraph, London {{citation}}: Empty citation (help): |first= has generic name (help) .. L1amw90 03:58, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

”after it was ruled that he was wrongly denied” is far better than “he was wrongly denied.” Do you see the difference? Acroterion (talk) 04:05, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
