Hiya, I've added the two source pages to the image's description on Commons, it should be easier to find the references now. - ARC GrittTALK 12:21, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

There is nothing.. edit

...sneaky about creating a redirect for such a wholly non-notable, cruft-laden collection of trivial plot summary that is the Lumpy article. --EEMIV (talk) 13:16, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Furthermore, a redirect is much more often a more appropriate track, since it retains the edit history if some wealth of sources/coverage appear at some point down the line. But, since you apparently prefer AfD to wholly erase that work, well, that's just fine with me. --EEMIV (talk) 13:19, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Les Rougon-Macquart edit

Really nice work improving these articles. I created most of them about four years ago, just so that something would be there - this was a time when the standard of most Wikipedia pages, even on major topics, was pretty basic compared to today - but never got round to fixing them up. Great stuff. Fosse8 (talk) 21:41, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Question on license edit

Sorry about the late reply. I've had a glorious and exciting day of studying probability. In my opinion CC-BY-SA is a weak copy left licence, because you only have to indicate the license it is available under "if possible" and attribution is a bare minimum. The end result is people treating CC-BY-SA content as they would public domain. The GFDL on the other hand requires that you indicate the licence (and the licence text, though I'm not so fussed about that). This prevents the use of content unless the user is willing to indicate (and hence provide) it under the same liscence. I'm interested in providing material for education, non-profits and spreading it via copyleft licensing. I'm not interest in filling the coffers of commercial publishers. I'm probably going to add CC-BY-SA-NC to all of my GFDL-1.2 images at some point as I don't mind weak copyleft for NC purposes. I strongly object to "any later version" clauses, someone could have the great idea of releasing all GFDL works to the public domain! The GPL, LGPL or one of the BSD liscences are probably what you want for software development. Noodle snacks (talk) 12:26, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • They are earlier uploads. I used a bot to change them to GDFL-1.2 at commons. I got a slap on the wrist from administrators and the changes reverted. Fir0002 has done the same thing with thousands of images, but double standards apply. The licence reversion is fair enough (I did release it under the other licences), but I do have to take issue with the way commons is administered. With exceptions, the administrators are typically rude, unhelpful and seek to impede the work of content providers. I'm not at all surprised about the photographers that have left, or that most public collections that do so choose to release to flickr over commons. I'd switch to flickr myself if it wasn't for wikipedia. Noodle snacks (talk) 13:05, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • Sorry to butt in, but Amen to that, Noodle snacks. wadester16 02:56, 17 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • Just stumbled across this. Re NS, I think Fir did get challenged over changing image licenses at his Commons account, but don't know of the outcome - perhaps have a read of his Commons talkpage. Other comments are probably fair enough. --jjron (talk) 08:30, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
      • Fir just told them he was super studious and unavailable until late June. Trick being everyone forgets in that time frame ;). Anyway, I replied to the scale bar thing.Noodle snacks (talk) 08:08, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Day & Night edit

That’s a perfect description. I’m not too sure who’s behind the pattern though. The short information file that accompanies it reads:

This is a period 256 rocket gun which demonstrates the symmetry of the Day/Night rules, and how a signal can be sent across the border between day and night regions. Here a period 256 anti-gun destroys every other rocket from a normal period 128 rocket gun. Based on a reaction by Dean Hickerson. David I. Bell, May 1997

(Copied and pasted from the file) I can’t find any information elsewhere but just I think leaving that pasted comment will suffice. Thanks for your compliments. --Simpsons contributor (talk) 14:05, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Don't give up edit

Thanks, the problem as I see it is that the only way for an image to pass is if its been modified and cleansed and I simply don't have the skills to do that. I could potentially vote however, my interests lie in military stuff (specifically the Medal of Honor and the Marine Corps) and very few (Less than a handful out of several thousand) of those images would meet the qualifications. --Kumioko (talk) 13:36, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Buying prints edit

Actually I think the French WMF chapter has a deal with a printer who sells posters of featured pictures. A portion of the cost goes to support the chapter. Durova285 15:24, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the info. However, if the French chapter of WMF is at http://www.wikimedia.fr, I didn't find anything about such a deal. Actually, it looks like a dead website. Last news dates back to January 2009 (http://www.wikimedia.fr/index.php?title=%C3%80_la_une). Before that, there were several updates each month. Ksempac (talk) 16:05, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so very much - it is great (and obviously much nicer than what I was able to do). If you could also fix the GA award, that would be greatly appreciated too. Yours, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:45, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay, the name has been changed, hope you're okay with the change. I see you've given it out twice, and that those are the only issuances thus far. Will you be renaming the ones you've given out, by chance? It's a really nice addition to the gallery, by the way. Thanks for creating it. Unschool 03:49, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done. Except I should have reuploaded the file with the new name but for some strange reason it refuses it, saying the file is corrupt Ksempac (talk) 06:58, 25 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Community input required: lowering delist bar at FPC edit

You are receiving this because of your current or past association with the Featured Pictures project. Following on from several cases where closers did not observe the prescribed minimum votes required for a delisting, there is now a motion to entirely dismiss the requirement for a minimum. Please participate in the discussion as wide-ranging changes may arise. Papa Lima Whiskey 2 (talk) 13:31, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Philadephia skyline edit

I am sorry to bother you, I am writing this correspondence to bring an image to your attention. I recently came across an image of the philly skyline that may be of interest to you. Even thought. the image seem like the comcast building is incomplete, it give a good scale of the buildings relationships to one another esp. Liberty Place bldgs, mellon bldg, verizon tower, & the blue cross blue shield bldg, which I & everyone else who does not live in philly can appreciate. I am writing to you because I do not have an acct in wiki & I do not know who the admin of the philly skyline wiki is.

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
