Speedy deletion nomination of Occidental Hotels and Resorts

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Occidental Hotels and Resorts, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. §everal⇒|Times 22:28, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Avoiding deletion

edit

Hello Kris.sordo, I nominated your recently created page for deletion as outlined in the notice on the page, which reads as follows: "This article may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion because in its current form it serves only to promote an entity, person or product, and would require a fundamental rewrite in order to become encyclopedic." This is the primary problem with the page: it not only appears to promote its subject but would require extensive effort to rewrite into a neutral way, at which point it may still be a candidate for some other category of deletion. Wikipedia takes neutrality very seriously, especially if you are in some way associated with the company you are writing about (see WP:COI for more about that). You may also wish to read Wikipedia's policies on notability (see WP:N). Please contact me on my talk page with any questions. §everal⇒|Times 01:51, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey, sorry but I did go ahead and delete the article because it was pretty much the same as the article that the community decided to delete in November. But if you feel like you'd be able to work on the article and fix the issues that people had concerns about in that discussion, I'd be happy to undelete it and move it to your userspace (that is, any page beginning with User:Kris.sordo/... such as User:Kris.sordo/Sandbox) so you can work on it. Or if I'm not around you can ask any admin. Don't hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page if you have any questions or need anything, I'm always glad to help. Peace, delldot ∇. 07:31, 19 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help. Could you please give me pointers on how to improve the article so I could add it again and it won't get deleted? Thanks. Kris. --

A tag has been placed on Occidental Hotels and Resorts requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Hi there! This page has now been deleted, as it hadn't changed much since the AfD, and certainly not enough to warrant a new discussion. Please do not recreate the article like you have previously done. If you still believe that the hotel is worthy of being included and that it will pass the general notability guideline, please use the article for creation process to create a draft and get it reviewed. On adhering to community consensus

edit

You have now recreated an Occidental Hotels and Resorts article three times since it was deleted by community consensus through the WP:AFD process less than a month ago. Please cease and desist. AllyD (talk) 23:40, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I can only repeat what AllyD says above, as you decided to ignore my message the last time it was deleted. If you recreate the article again, you will be blocked! Bjelleklang - talk 23:44, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The article was not identical to the one I created before. I ask that it be undeleted and I be given the opportunity to edit it. Furthermore, I'd appreciate it if you let me know which part did not specifically pass muster. --Kris.sordo (talk) 23:50, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
This was the fourth time you created it, you disregarded my request to use the AFC process and the sources you used was trivial this time too. Please see the general notability guideline and WP:CORP for types of coverage required, and what kind of coverage not considered a source when it comes to notability. I have restored the article to User_talk:Kris.sordo/Hotel, use the AFC process when your draft is done. If you have any questions I'm happy to answer them, but please check the two links to the GNG and WP:CORP before you submit the draft for review. Bjelleklang - talk 00:48, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for restoring the article, and I apologize if you believe I diregarded your prior requests. I just can't seem to find better sources for this hotelier. Could you kindly help pointing out to where I may be able to find some? --Kris.sordo (talk) 00:58, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Not really, Google news or books usually tends to give some information, or failing that, just a general web search where you try to filter out general noise not relevant. I should note though, that hotels rarely tends to be notable, so you might not find anything. Bjelleklang - talk 09:14, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hello. I did some minor editing and changed the sources. Please review my work and let me know if it can now be published. --Kris.sordo (talk) 19:31, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi there. I took a look at it, but the sources are both about the opening and such articles just about never establish notability for anything. Bjelleklang - talk 22:04, 7 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've eliminated a source, and replaced another. Please review the article again and let me know it's possible to publish now. Thanks. --Kris.sordo (talk) 18:48, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm afraid not, the new source is a press release about a new brand. And before you spend any more time on this, my gut feeling is that this isn't a notable business at all, and I doubt that you will find any sources that has the coverage you need for it to be notable. This article addresses what kind of coverage is accepted to some extent, and basically you should avoid using the sources mentioned there. But if you have any plans to contribute to other Wikipedia articles, it might be an idea to work on another article, at least for a while. Bjelleklang - talk 19:38, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hello. I've revised the article again. Please check and see if it can be approved. Thanks. --Kris.sordo (talk) 14:56, 21 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi! I'm afraid it still doesn't pass the general notability guideline, so it can't be accepted. Bjelleklang - talk 19:02, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Occidental Vacation Club

edit

The article Occidental Vacation Club has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:NCORP; no significant coverage in independent reliable sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
