Welcome!
editWelcome to Wikipedia, Kobe248Bryant! Thank you for your contributions. I am ToBeFree and I have been editing Wikipedia for some time, so if you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. You can also check out Wikipedia:Questions or type {{help me}}
at the bottom of this page. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- Introduction
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- How to write a great article
- Discover what's going on in the Wikimedia community
Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that will automatically produce your username and the date. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:01, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

editA username should not be someone else's real name. You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
- Adding
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Adding
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 18:26, 24 April 2020 (UTC)- A simple change like "Kobe248BryantFan" would work, if you still wanted to keep the same theme. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 18:41, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

- Disappointing that the administrators cannot present a united front here. What is wrong with KobeBryantFan? Nothing. There are all sorts of users declaring fandom here. This is a severe case of WP:BITE for an otherwise good-faith editor, as ToBeFree and I have both noted, the edits have been in good faith. Elizium23 (talk) 20:32, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- I also don't see an obvious problem with "KobeBryantFan", though I think the response above is a bit over the top, and would encourage this user to retract it. 331dot (talk) 20:45, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Nothing to retract: this user has clearly been bitten based on the current active unblock request. I have nothing to apologize for, but an apology is warranted from Yamla. Elizium23 (talk) 21:13, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- I apologize, I don't mean your response, but that of this user. 331dot (talk) 21:23, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Perhaps he will retract it on the condition that he be allowed to use "KobeBryantFan" which seems to make everyone happy and is certainly not against any policy implemented today. Elizium23 (talk) 21:34, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe, though expressing hatred of anything causes me concern. I would like to hear from Yamla first. 331dot (talk) 21:36, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- I'm okay with unblocking. I don't find "K o b e B r y a n t F a n" (which was the request, before the user edited the declined unblock request) to be significantly better than Kobe248Bryant but don't object if someone else wants to unblock this user and perform the rename. My quick scan of the contributions show no cause for concern outside of the username and therefore, there's good reason to believe they'd be a valuable contributor to Wikipedia if unblocked. --Yamla (talk) 21:49, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- Since the user themselves wants "KobeBryantFan" per your diff, and since we are all agreed that "KobeBryantFan" does not violate the username policy, I would recommend the next global renamer that sees this rename the user to "KobeBryantFan" and lift this block. Mz7 (talk) 21:53, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Note that I explicitly did not see the comment from Bagumba above. For that, I unreservedly apologise. I have no doubt that this user felt he or she was getting the run-around when it came to picking a new username, and this was my fault. I still don't like "K o b e B r y a n t F a n" but had I noticed the other comment, I would not have reviewed the unblock-un request here. --Yamla (talk) 21:54, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
