Speedy deletion nomination of AfriGo

edit

Hello Kirath95,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged AfriGo for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Ways to improve Afrigo

edit

Hello, Kirath95,

Thank you for creating Afrigo.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

While there are several sources, the tone of this draft article is extremely promotional.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|49ersBelongInSanFrancisco}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Afrigo moved to draftspace

edit

Thanks for your contributions to Afrigo. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it is promotional and reads like an advertisement and you may have a possible Conflict of Interest. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Ratnahastin (talk) 09:32, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Welcome!

edit

Hello, Kirath95, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was AfriGo, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because your account is being used only for advertising or promotion.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:08, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jimfbleak, I have provided some background of myself that I do not work for Afrigo. I have provided some steps I wish to take if unblocked. Thanks Kirath95 (talk) 10:58, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for email.

You have an obvious conflict of interest and you must declare it. If you work directly or indirectly for an organisation, or otherwise are acting on its behalf, you are very strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. If you are paid directly or indirectly by the organisation you are writing about, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at Kirath95. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Kirath95|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. Note that editing with a COI is discouraged, but permitted as long as it is declared. I have blocked you because you concealed your COI.

Also read the following regarding writing an article:

  • you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the organisation or company, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, logs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the company or organisation claims or interviewing its management. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
  • Much of your text was unsourced or referenced to inappropriate sources like social media.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • You wrote multiple copies of your promo, mass spamming, when there should only be one extant version of any article.
  • In general, you just wrote "this is what we do". Little about the organisation itself, not even an offices location. To show notability you need hard verifiable facts such as the number of employees, management structure, turnover or profits.
  • Much of your text was unsourced denigration of your competitors, eg payments landscape was seen to be riddled with issues... lack of trust in formal financial institutions... constrained access to financial services, heightened dependence on cash, and inadequate tracking of financial transactions, all of which impede the nation's economic development and so on
  • ...And promotion of your card Locals stand to enjoy the following advantages... that the card scheme will provide a more economical option compared to current cards available in the country... to improve the safeguarding and understanding of the country's payment ecosystem... expected to bring manifold benefits to the nation and its citizens... there has been a notable increase in demand for AfriGo from both banks and individuals.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.
  • I didn't check

You said I would like to stress that this article is not written with the intention of promoting but rather informing, but you didn't inform us of your obvious COI, and you wrote multiple copies of text that was light on real facts and proper sources, and make blatantly promotional claims. The procedure for requesting an unblock is in the box above. In your reason, make it clear what topics you will edit if an independent admin sees fit to unblock you. Request reason:

I would like to point out that I do not work for Afrigo, the Central Bank of Nigeria or any of its subsidiaries. If given the chance and I am unblocked, I will first reformat the entire article and ensure to remove text/content that may appear promotional in any manner. I will then ensure to provide more citations to further legitimise any info. Thank you

Decline reason:

Even if I believed you that you have no connection to the subject of your edits, you're clearly not yet ready to contribute about these topics. Perhaps you work in marketing or business, I don't know- but you haven't yet learned things like style, sourcing, etc, so you won't be unblocked to contribute about those topics. If you want to contribute about other topics instead, please tell what those might be in a new request, I am declining this one. 331dot (talk) 07:06, 2 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You say that that you have no COI with this article, yet all your contributions have been multiple promotions of the company, and you are now basically saying that if you are unblocked you will continue only to write about this topic. I'll be surprised if any admin unblocks you to carry on spamming Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:19, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't do so It is unlikely that you will be able to write about this subject non promotionally at first. "Experience has unfortunately shown that most (but not all) people with experience in PR cannot be taught to write a proper article, because they are so completely oriented to writing advertisements or quasi-advertisements that they honestly cannot see the difference between that and a proper encyclopedia article." -- User:DGG. You will need therefore to describe what constructive edits you would make to help build the wonder of the world that is Wikipedia. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 14:24, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Moving articles to Userspace

edit

I have reviewed your request to get your articles undeleted so that you can work on them. Considering that you are currently blocked, I am not fulfilling your request. I suggest that you first work on getting yourself un-blocked. If you were to rewrite one of your articles and post it here on your talk page, you might be able to convince an admin that you know how to write an article appropriate for Wikipedia. If, you can get yourself unblocked, you can repeat your request to me to undelete your articles and I could move them to your user space where you could work on them. Considering that those articles got you blocked in the first place, you might be better off trying to write them again from scratch if and when you get unblocked. I will not be involved in your efforts to get unblocked. -- SamuelWantman 17:42, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
