Speedy deletion of Firestarter Racing Mini Monster (Truck) edit

A tag has been placed on Firestarter Racing Mini Monster (Truck) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. 9Nak (talk) 09:46, 14 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Renata3:

Apparently I need to post to my own talk page in an effort to dispute your decision to speedily delete my page titled 'Firestarter Mini Monster (Truck)' and I must say, I have read the comments of other administrators pertaining to the manner you handled this matter, and I find it troubling. As an administrator I assume that you are expected to enforce the rules of Wikipedia, and yet you don't seem to follow them yourself. In fact, you denied me my due process and became judge, jury and executioner all in one...apparently your efforts to change your self proclaimed 'deletionist' ways aren't going so well. As well, I expect you did all this pertaining to a topic which I'm quite sure you know nothing about, which brings me to my next point.

As far of the relevance of my truck is concerned, let me bring to your attention some information which you may be able to use to make a more informed decision. Aside from being an absolutely unique and original hand built one of a kind vehicle, it was created with the assistance of a gentleman named Steve Combs. Steve is not only a monster truck veteran, but one of the inventors of the nitrogen charged shock, and his product is used on practically every professional monster truck racing team, including such greats as Grave Digger. According to 'Monster Trucks' by Scott Johnston:

"Today, the Combs racing shock is one of the most common components found on a Monster Truck, perhaps second only to the terra tire." (Pg. 226)

Do you really believe he'd be wasting his time on something as 'irrelevant' as the Firestarter truck? To even entertain the thought that after the hours, experience and cost involved, that this vehicle is not noteworthy only exposes your ignorance to the topic. The fact is, you're looking at an authentic one of a kind vehicle - the first of it's kind before it makes it's debut - and you don't know enough on the topic to recognize it's importance in the industry.

If anything, I am only guilty of being proactive in posting this article before attending my first major event, and understand that contractually I am not able to disclose any information at this time. It was my hope that when the event is announced, that those interested could find out more about the truck before attending...isn't that why an encyclopedia is used, to do research?

I would like the courtesy of being involved in the dispution process, as I was denied access to appropriate procedure the first time this page was posted. A good first start would be if I could be provided with a copy of the page you deleted so that it can be reposted with my concerns.

Thank you for your time. Kildare2 (talk) 03:40, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm responding to your post over at ANI. I appreciate you writing this article, but the best way to establish notability is to show reliable secondary sources such as magazine articles, reliable website mentions, and the like that show this vehicle is notable. You just posting that it is unique isn't enough to prove it so, you'll need neutral sources showing so. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a line on my talk page. Good luck! Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Your article edit

Per your request, I've emailed you a copy of the text of your now-deleted article. However, I'll add my 2 cents that it probably does not meet our notability requirements. Please, rather than recreating the article, continue to participate in the DRV discussion,

Creating an article on Wikipedia that actually stays is, as you've discovered, harder than it looks, and it cn be a pretty off-putting experience being bombarded by warnings and notices. Although it's a little late now, my advice is usually to watch and learn for a while, rather than try to create an article right off. If, after all this, you're still interested in sticking around, there's a some useful information in the following links. --barneca (talk) 22:21, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree with everything Barneca and Dayewalker say above, and am glad to see that Barneca has mailed you the article. (Though I've been around a while I'm not an admin by the way.) What an article needs to stay in wikipedia are "reliable sources" supporting its content. If the truck is notable in the ordinary sense, someone will write about it, and that is what you need. Blogs etc usually aren't accepted, but can be if they are written by well known experts - if you yourself are a recognized authority on monster trucks and can prove it, your published writings can be acceptable, or if Steve Combs or Scott Johnston has written anything about it anywhere that would probably pass muster.
The problem is that in your own words you are being proactive, and wikipedia generally aims to be retroactive. When it comes to speculation about future events, we don't speculate, we only report others' speculation. Since you probably know a lot about monster trucks, I suggest looking at the other articles and improving them however you can, preferably using published sources for new content, and redoing the article you created once there are solid sources. If you need help deciding whether a source is acceptable, you can ask me or anyone else - Barneca, Dayewalker or DGG (a one-man global resource), who also posted at the Deletion review, or go to WP:RS/N, the reliable source noticeboard, where we try to decide about tough cases. Nowadays starting an article often gets the newbie editor a kind of hazing. That's just the way things are now, as much as I deplore it, but once you've been around a while and get to know the ropes things get a lot easier. Hoping you stay. Free advice (and worth every penny) edit

If I were you, I'd probably drop the complaints about Seicer. He said a rude thing and shouldn't have, but this isn't the same level as blocking you or something. It's like someone flipping you the bird when you're driving; you don't try to find a policeman to hunt them down, and you don't grab a gun out of the glove compartment and follow them home; you either ignore them, or flip the bird back, and move on with your life. Seicer is not going to be penalized for one borderline obnoxious comment, and I doubt you're going to get an apology. Were I you, I'd chose my battles, and move on. --barneca (talk) 13:30, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I actually issued a statement where I acknowledged that the usage of the word "crap" to describe the article was a bit too forceful, but explained that the article is in no way notable or would muster any chance at AfD. seicer | talk | contribs 14:25, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

No worries edit

Just so you know - I'm not an admin (any user can post on that board). Regarding the monster truck article I didn't see it, best advice I can give is to use an existing one as a template and make sure you've got some decent sources. Exxolon (talk) 18:36, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Deletion Review closed edit

Hello, Kildare2. Just so you know, I've closed the DRV as no consensus, especially since things have more-or-less sorted themselves out with the re-deletion and your request to have it deleted. Since you did at one point ask for the page to be userfied, I have moved the page to User:Kildare2/Firestarter so that you can continue to work on it and get it up to our standards. If you need any help with this, please post at the Help desk or add the text {{helpme}} to this page. If you have decided you don't want the article any more, you can tag it with {{db-u1}} and an administrator will delete it for you. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Image copyright problem with File:Firestarter Mini Monster Truck.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Firestarter Mini Monster Truck.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 16:30, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • I was getting ready to clean up the article, but I'm concerned about the copyright of the photo. It's clearly commercial. Without copyright status, it can't stay. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 16:40, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but the photo came right from the company website. It would be nice to include a photo, but we can't use one like that. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 17:06, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Firestarter edit

I'm still not sure it meets our notability guideline, and you still definitely have a conflict of interest about this. The page at WP:BESTCOI should give you the best way to handle this, which in a nutshell would be don't write the article. As I'm sure was explained to you last time, editors with a conflict of interest will very often inadvertently advertise their company/group/truck/whatever or otherwise violate one or more of our policies without intending to. It's much easier to request the article and wait for someone else to start writing the article; once this has happened, you are welcome to recommend changes and additions and provide sources for the article on its talk page.

I know this probably isn't the answer you were expecting, but regardless it would be your best course of action here. If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know. Hersfold (t/a/c) 18:27, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of interest doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the subject being notable; it's the problem that since you have a personal relationship to the subject, when writing about it here you may introduce some sort of bias into the article whether you intend to or not. You'll also have a harder time judging if the subject is in fact notable; this is best done by someone who has no involvement with the subject at all, because after all, if they think it's notable the first time they hear of it, chances are others will be of the same opinion. There's a long list of other reasons why it's inappropriate to edit with a conflict of interest, all outlined on the guideline page. I find it doubtful that the other articles you've mentioned were written by someone with a similar conflict of interest, and so they are a moot point.
As for having someone else write the article, I meant someone who has no relationship to you. To have a "buddy" write the article for you as you suggest would not only defeat the purpose (he'd then have the same COI you have), but would also violate our policy on meatpuppetry, or having others edit on your behalf. Don't do that. As I said, you can request at a relevant Wikiproject or at requested articles that someone begin researching your truck and look into making an article.
Uploading a picture would be fine, just make sure you upload it under a free license such as the GFDL or a Creative Commons license. Remember also that we do not allow images uploaded under a "non-com" or "non-commercial use only" license, nor do we allow images that are licensed for use only on Wikipedia. This is because our content is frequently used elsewhere, and our licensing requires that we allow this to happen within certain restrictions.

File copyright problem with File:Minitrucks.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Minitrucks.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ww2censor (talk) 04:19, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (File:Bigfootmini.JPG) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Bigfootmini.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:45, 12 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

You uploaded two versions, one with JPG and one with jpg (note the capitalization) the JPG version above is the one that isn't being used. If you click on the image link and then look at the bottom of the page you will see "file links", which does not have an article name. Skier Dude (talk) 03:35, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I wasn't aware that I uploaded the image twice. Feel free to delete the version not being used in the mini monster truck article. Thank you. "Kildare2 (talk) 00:35, 14 August 2009 (UTC)"Reply
