Categories

Please do not add "parent" categories. Charles Reid (general) is already in the category Category:1819 births, so he does not need Category:19th-century births. Similarly, for example, if someone is in Category:French classical guitarists, they don't go in Category:French guitarists or Category:Classical guitarists or Category:French musicians or Category:Guitarists, though they might go in Category:21st-century guitarists. There are a few exceptions called "non-diffusing categories", so that person might also go in Category:21st-century women guitarists, but if you look at the category page it will tell you if it is one of these exceptions.

He also wasn't a civil servant, but a soldier - I'll add a few more categories eventually.

Thanks for your contributions. There's a lot to learn about editing Wikipedia but it's an interesting journey.

If you've added "parent" birth/death categories to other articles, please go back to them now and remove the unwanted categories. Thanks.PamD 17:23, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
