Speedy deletion nomination of Cornucopia Institute

edit

A tag has been placed on Cornucopia Institute requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Cornucopia Institute

edit

The entire article, as written, consisted of the following text:

What's necessary to make the article keepable is not a matter of just adding one more sentence; it's a matter of references in reliable sources. It's not good enough to add one or two sources which briefly mention the group to demonstrate that the organization exists, as mere existence is not what constitutes notability on Wikipedia; you need to add media sources (newspaper articles, books, etc.) which are specifically about the group and which demonstrate exactly what it is about the group that makes them something we should have an article about. Hope that helps a bit. Bearcat (talk) 22:40, 3 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I just re-created the article, with copious references. It still seems to me that before deeming an article non-notable, and deleting it within a day, that someone could do a search within wikipedia itself, and see that about three of the other wp articles that mention this group had their own references. In cases like that, I think the presumption should be that it probably is notable. Kevinbsmith (talk) 17:02, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kevin, I'm the one that has tried repeatedly tried to write an article on Cornucopia with deletions - thanks for you interest in getting this on here! I agree that they shouldn't delete so quickly! I will repost the article I wrote on my mytalk page - I'd appreciate your input, maybe together we can figure this out! Here's where I repost it for editing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Gardenerlynn/Cornucopia_InstituteGardenerlynn (talk) 17:29, 9 November 2010 (UTC)gardenerlynnReply
