Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

May 2009 edit

Thank you for your contributions to Kazakhstan. Please be reminded that sourced content should not be deleted, as it was in this edit. This content removal does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. Otebig (talk) 14:43, 1 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of previously published material to our articles as you apparently did to Kazakhstan. Please cite a reliable source for all of your information. Thank you. — Kralizec! (talk) 14:10, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kazakh Image edit

This dumb edit war needs to stop, it's wasting everyone's time. Please give good reasoning why this picture is not of Kazakhs. The origin of the photo has already been discussed with the user who uploaded it, and was told by a local that these people were Kazakhs - there's no reason to doubt this, and the details in the photo - clothing, housing, facial features - to me confirms that they are Kazakh. The photo you continue to replace it with, on the other hand, does not say the two men on horseback (who we can poorly see, by the way), are Kazakh. it only says the photo is from the Altay in East Kazakhstan - so, these riders could be Mongolian, Kyrgyz, Buriyat - heck, maybe even Xibe for all we can tell. It is not a better image than the one currently there, and you need to give good explanation for your logic to remove the other photo ("no they're not Kazakhs" by itself is not a good explanation) - if it's difficult to explain in English, then explain in Russian.

Beyond that, in the majority of your edits you are taking away material, rather than adding. This in general is not helpful. See Wikipedia:Contributing to Wikipedia for ways you can positively contribute. Since you know Russian and some Kazakh, you can especially help by adding information from Russian and Kazakh language sources. If you're in Kazakhstan right now, go out on the street and take some photos to add to articles. All that would be a far better use of everyone's time than arguing over one photo.   You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Kazakhs. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. Kingturtle (talk) 15:34, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

please remove ADMIN from your signature edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: your signature has the word ADMIN in it, but you are not an admin on wikipedia. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. Kingturtle (talk) 14:25, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Kazakhs edit

Hi, I've reverted your edit on the above page. It's unnecessary to have a long list of names on this page when there is a list of Kazakhs instead. Please remember that the 3 revert rule (WP:3RR) and do not revert my edit unless you wish to risk being blocked. Please message me if you have any questions. Smartse (talk) 14:47, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Also you created English speaking pubs in Almaty but there isn't any information on the page. I've added the proper template to say it is under construction. PS - this article may not be notable. Smartse (talk) 14:47, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hotels in Kazakhstan edit

It is a mistake to create empty articles like this - they are very likely to be deleted quickly, because unfortunately many users start an article and never put anything useful into it. You would do much better to wait until you have enough material to make it clear that it is going to be a useful article. You can prepare it off-line in a word-processor like Notepad, or in your own WP:User space - just create a page like User:Kazax1/Draft, or any page name you like. Also, with regard to this proposed page, have a look at WP:NOTGUIDE - to be an acceptable article, it will need to be more than just a list of hotels. English speaking pubs in Almaty edit

Just so you know, the article English speaking pubs in Almaty is probably going to get deleted, since it is just a list of places and phone numbers, which is not appropriate for a Wikipedia article (see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not). Where this information would be good is in WikiTravel, specifically on the section about Almaty here. Some of the bars are already listed there, but I don't think they have phone numbers. If I were you, I'd integrate the information from your page over to WikiTravel before the page is deleted. Otebig (talk) 16:55, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Just so you know I've added it to the discussion of [1] so you don't have to. Smartse (talk) 17:28, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of English speaking pubs in Almaty edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article English speaking pubs in Almaty, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

WP:NOT a travel guide or the Yellow Pages.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. eaolson (talk) 18:47, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
