Speedy deletion nomination of VX (Sport)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on VX (Sport), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Ruby Murray 10:40, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ruby and thank you for your comments. Before I created VX I read a lot of Wikipedia pages and a lot of the guides and I thought I'd done OK, both in terms of structure and content. I made sure I didn't use flowery, descriptive language. I made sure I didn't use as references anything written by anyone within the sport. I made sure I tried to only write things that were factual. I have contested the application for deletion - I note that the suggestion that it is a candidate for deletion is primarily because there was another VX page which was speedily deleted and that this is similar. I had no knowledge of the existence of the other page or who wrote it. I guess there is similarity because the topic is the same - it is the same sport so there are bound to be similarities. So, I had a look at the discussion round the first page and I don't feel that any of those criticisms apply to what I wrote - (a) One of those comments was that the sport should be re-classified from combat team sport. As I say - I didn't know anything about that and had classified it as a ball sport anyway so that point is addressed (b) there was the comment about hyperbole and puffery - having read the guides I made sure to avoid anything like this (c) there was a comment about it being something 'made up on the day' - this is surely not the case as can be seen by the international TV coverage (d) there was a comment about a reference being a press release - again, having read the guidelines I made sure I only referenced material written by independent third parties For a subject which is a young sport, I really don't know what more I could have done I hope that this page will not be deleted as there is a rapidly growing international VX community of which I am an enthusiastic part KamenyiC (talk) 12:15, 29 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
