NYScholar, inaccessible?

Sorry for the slow reply: I haven't been very active over the last couple of days, and initially I missed your message, coming as it did before a couple of other recent ones. I'm guessing that by "inaccessible", you mean the lack of a link in his signature. That seems to be deliberate on his part: I could speculate as to why, but probably should not. He nevertheless does have a user: and user_talk: page, all the same: User:NYScholar and User talk:NYScholar. Editing "Toni Packer": a Sisyphusean Task

I would like to thank you for your brave attempt at editing the "Toni Packer" article. If you go back to visit from time to time, you will notice that a tenacious little Chihuahua named "Osip" will chase you and all other trespassers out of his private lot, "a place of great beauty with sparkling streams and green leafy trees that just blow through the soul..." Dear Julia: If you go to the Toni Packer article and click on the "discussion" tab, you will be able to read the history of the thinking (note the gerund!) that went into the main article. The Chihuahua yips at the heels of Mind Meal, then tears at the trouser cuffs of Nat Krause, then runs back to bite Mind Meal again, etc. It makes me sad because I feel that the Chihuahua is a fairly representative example of the type of person Toni is currently attracting. But, no, the article is most certainly not a "promo" for Toni or the Springwater Center; if it were, it would be of a much higher quality. (If you want to see a promo piece, read the Philip Kapleau article, a slick advertising brochure carefully written by Kapleau's students.) As a former student of Toni, I feel a certain sense of responsibility towards keeping her and her teaching from severe distortion or misrepresentation, so I check the article every month or so, tiptoeing in through the garden gate while the Chihuahua is asleep, trying to keep the weeds from overrunning the flowerbeds. (I put in the "Quotes" section to give Toni a chance to get a word in edgewise without being "interpreted" through the distorting lenses of lesser minds; it didn't seem to bother the Chihuahua too much. He only tore out one quote!) Toni once made a reference in one of her talks to the housewife who is "queen of her kitchen" (illustrating the idea of our sense of the "me"); you may find, if you spend enough time in Wikiworld, that you will sometimes blunder into an editor who is king of "his" Wikipage. Oh, the infinite variety of things to which one can become attached! As Toni also once said, one can become attached even to pain (persons at the Rochester Zen Center sometimes said that they were grateful for leg or back pain during sesshin because it kept them from falling asleep during rounds of zazen). Hakuin-zenji once said that, for the serious student of Zen, everyone is a bodhisattva. So, here's your koan: How is the Chihuahua your teacher and friend? Best wishes to you, and have fun editing! Huna & Lomilomi

Thank you for improving the Lomilomi and Huna articles. Now that I look at Huna again it looks very heavy with Serge King and really nothing about Max's principles besides the Three Selves. Dear Julia, Thanks for writing. In regard to your question about "huna shamans today" and "whether there is more or if it is kept secret" I must say that I am not a devotee of Huna, I am a researcher on ancient Hawaiian traditions. Max accurately reported on kahuna practices but not on how they did what they did. I don't know how much, if any, of Serge's philosophies are Hawaiian. There are many people who claim to be shaman or kahuna but, as the late Koko Willis said (who was 100% Hawaiian), "Oh, you a kahuna? Let's go down to the beach and see you walk on water." I have interviewed a lot of Hawaiians who are in the healing fields and none of them call themselves kahuna. I don't believe the Hawaiians keep things secret exactly, but they choose carefully who to share them with. My modus operandi is to read what Hawaiians wrote and listen to what Hawaiians say. That keeps me busy enough! One of these days I will finish my book on Huna from the perspective of authentic Hawaiian traditions. Until then, I troll around WP and try to keep things pono. But plenty of people are interested in Huna and it is a legitimate entry here. So any light you can shed will be good. PS aka cords is one of those things that I think Max was right about although I haven't found those exact words used. My research continues! Makana Chai 08:04, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

2) I have seen merge tags stay on here for a year. I added this one on the 13th, 8 days. Normally you give merge discussions at least a month. You didn't even add your opinion to the discussion.

When I found the article, there was a "split" tag from user Her Pegship from 03:06, 17 March 2006 ("Discussion > Article Split suggestion (2006)"), a year and half ago. So, I closed that discussion, and:

Then, I opened the new discussion to "merge" (Discussion > Article MERGE suggestion (October 2007)):

issue of quantum

"issue of quantum" as used in law regarding multiple jurisdiction....... possibly from the concept in physics about particles moving rapidly through and existing in different dimensions at the same time............ I just like the way it sounds........ planning on using it in everyday speech to impress......
