Surrender Monkeys

Hi - I tried to edit your addition to Culturally significant phrases from The Simpsons but decided to remove it. I think it would be better placed added into the page for Cheese-eating surrender monkeys which is the phrase Willie used in the episode, and perhaps also to the trivia/cultural references section for the episode.

As regards the wording of your para, the phrase Surrender Monkeys was in popular use before that front page of the NYP so I don't think it would be right to imply that the NYP page followed directly from The Simpsons, which is what the page is trying to list. Let me know if you want to discuss this or think it's unfair --Mortice 19:03, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Mortice -- I agree that the information would go well in both of the locations you mentioned. I would submit, though, that the reason it also belongs here is that a when phrase is used in the front-page banner headline of a major daily paper, it's crossed a threshold and become "culturally significant." If you do a Google news search, "surrender monkeys" is now being used by news agencies as they discuss the Post headline, whereas before it was used pretty much within the Simpsons community. In other words. not as popular as "d'oh" but certainly more so than "tomacco."

Do a quick Google news search for the phrase and tell me what you think. -- Jstohler 20:03, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

You're quite right. Sorry, I had the idea that the phrase had been around ever since the second world war, but you're right, from browsing the google results, it does appear that The Simpsons invented the term, in which case it's a prime example of the sort of thing that should be on this page. Will & Jaden Smith have GG Noms 4 The Pursuit of Happyness

I dunno y u deleted WS'& Jaden Smith's Golden Globe noms when u added that POH was the #1 movie & WS's 6th #1 movie, etc, etc...; but pls dont. They r both nominated.

Let me tell you what you need to do: Come of you're horse. You neiter a king nor a God. I looked at the page and following my update and yours is what followed and had the GG info removed/deleted. Now I've looked again at history again and it is fine. Perhaps you "hid" the change like Wiki headman Jim Wales did? Perhaps(more likely) it is a fluke like over the weekend when the main page was vandalised with a giant pic of a penis, but when my I asked others to check the wiki main page, only some saw it, while other didnt. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.58.196.156 (talk) 05:35, 19 December 2006 (UTC).

Fair use rationale for Image:Nypost surrender monkeys.jpg

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for uploading Image:Matthew_miller.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Speedy deletion nomination of June (band) 2

Which is all hilarious because of course Wikipedia IS a collection of links. They're all over the place. Does linkbot plan to remove ALL of them?

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Jstohler. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
