Question About Suffern High School Edit for IP Address

Hi! I am a new Wikipedia user and have an account, but before I logged on today, I saw a message for me that was connected to my IP address from you. It was about an edit made to Suffern High School. However, I never edited that page, not even when I wasn't signed in. I was just wondering if you knew why my IP address might be associated with this edit? I am not sure how this happened. I am not sure what to tell you. I have performed numerous edits on the above named school; I frequently leave messages for other editors in regards their edits. You may not be aware that IP's switch from time to time and it is entirely possible someone else on your IP made the edit I was responding to. If you tell me the IP, I will gladly explain what my message was about, but other than the small piece of info on IP protocol I have given you, I really don't know what to say. Gernatt Family of Companies

Hi Gtwfan52, Thanks for all of your comments on my entry, 'Gernatt Family of Companies.' I appreciate that you can see I've been working very hard on this entry, and in fact, have been trying to make it worthy of being published. I will work on making the corrections and edits that you have suggested. It's interesting that you stated that it appears to be promotional and family biographical. My aim was to try to have this entry published, and then add entries about the notability of the family members identified in it. You see, the Gernatt's have donated $1,000,000s to Catholic education, specifically the Diocese of Buffalo and St. Joseph's School, in particular. When Catholic schools in Buffalo were closing that had 500 students, St. Joe's has remained open with less than 100 - because it is funded by the Gernatt's. They actually have a family endowment through the Diocese particularly for the school. Also, the companies are basically a huge monopoly in Western New York State. While they are involved in many huge projects, they also damage the environment. This has been a great concern for residents in the area for decades. So, I had first desired for this entry to be published so I could then add entries about the notability of family members mentioned in it. The people and companies have done much good, but also much damage, as well. It is my desire for the public to be informed about that. I certainly don't intend for it to be promotional, but informational. If it was possible, I would not be neutral about the effects to the environment or how the company monopolizes business in the area. At any rate, I will keep working on it. I know there have been articles in The Buffalo News about the companies, particularly in relation to legal matters with the Town of Sardinia. That case has also been cited in law books. Perhaps I can find more notability regarding the topic to make it more worthy of inclusion as I do believe these companies are those about which people should be informed. Hi again Gtwfan52, I have spent some more time researching for reliable, secondary sources, and located and included information related to four academic journal articles for this entry. I also located an included reference material from the Buffalo News and a Washington, DC business newspaper. I hope that the journal articles are acceptable for making the entry worthy of being published in Wikipedia. I do believe that the public should be informed about these companies. I know that for myself, personally, when I go to the Internet to locate information about the companies or people associated with the companies, I would very much appreciate having a 'one-stop-shop' location such as a Wikipedia entry about these companies to refer to, rather than trying to piece together the good, the bad, and the ugly from 50 or more sources. So, I very much would like to request your consideration, again, in reviewing my entry. I have taken this project upon myself to try to contribute to the public knowledge about these companies. I am not a relative and I have no monetary interest in the companies. However, I have watched the companies and the people associated with them take many liberties, damage the environment, and minimize and attempt to silence the concerns of the majority. My aim is to present as much information as possible so that people can be better-informed and make their own decisions. They are a hugely powerful group of companies, led by extremely powerful people in industry who also have influential and powerful ties with local, state, and federal government officials. They often make a glowing presentation of things, but do not tell the whole story. So, again, I will very much appreciate your reconsideration of my entry, and will be honored should you decide for it to be published. If not, I am open to your further suggestions so that I can enhance it and make it worthy of publication because I believe in the value of information about these companies being shared with the public. Great, thanks for your suggestions and feedback; I appreciate it! :-) In my current revision, I had taken out all external links except the one for the company; I will work on editing that. Also, I do believe that I have written from a neutral point of view. What I was saying is that if I had my choice, I wouldn't, however I have written from a neutral point of view, presenting information from both sides. Yeh, I'm happy about locating and including academic journal articles. Especially the one from Urban Lawyer is excellent for meeting the reliable secondary sources requirement. I'll keep working on it; thanks again for your suggestions, and correction to one of my references about the man burned in the explosion as an example for how to cite multiple references. I also wanted to add in regard to your concern relating to the family v. the company as entry subject. In setting up the entry, I looked at Ford Motor Company as an example. On the Wikipedia page for it, both Henry Ford (founder) and William Clay Ford, Jr., a company executive, are named in the entry, along with their pictures being included in it. In creating the Gernatt Family of Companies entry, I believed it important to show in the history of the companies that they were begun by Gernatt, Sr. as founder and chairman, and are currently led by Gernatt, Jr., who is the chief executive. I did remove all references to the two other family members. These are family-owned and operated companies, and I believe it important to state that. Like Ford, Gernatt's would not have existed if it wasn't for Gernatt, Sr. and the involvement of his family. So, that's where I'm coming from with that, just to show that there is family leadership in the creation and existence of the companies. In the Western New York State area, like Ford, the Gernatt Family of Companies is simply known as Gernatt's. It is like the Ford of gravel companies in that area. I have had time to read thru your article again and I am going to put it in the 'pedia. After it is moved into mainspace, I will probably make a few edits on it. I have been the last twenty minutes or so trying to find an appropriate infobox for it to no avail. I will look further. Just a short Wiki-etiquette note. It is best to keep an ongoing discussion like this all on one page, so it is easier for both us and any other interested party to follow. It is probably as much on me as you that this has gotten so fractured, with comments on the article your talk and mine, but let's keep it here from here out for clarity. Also, when you reply, please note that I formatted this discussion by putting progressive indents on each conversation. you do that by adding however many colons (1 more than the last entry) to keep each separate entry in the thread indented one more time. Also, to reply to your comment about the Ford's above, the difference is that the members of the Ford family each have independent notability from the company. Ok, you now have an article on Wikipedia. Congrats are in order! Keep in mind, now that the article is in the encyclopedia, it is no longer yours and other editors can and will edit it. By all means you should keep it on your watchlist so when people vandalize it (and they will) you can catch it and fix it. Just remember, vandalism is only changes that are obviously intentionally malicious, like mass removal of content without explanation, insertion of nonsense or profanity, etc. I did put some maintenance tags on it; orphan (which means no other articles have wikilinks to your article), underlinked (which means that your article needs more Wikilinks in it--and I will address that a bit sometime today), undercatagorized (which simply means it needs to have more categories added to it) and lede re-write (this is probably the most major and also the one best suited for you to address yourself. The lede is supposed to be a summary of what is in the article. Most of the information you have in it is more properly catagorized as background. So, if you would want to take pretty much everything after the first sentence of the existing lede and make it a section titled "background" and then make the lede a summary of the article, I think that you actually will have a "C" class article instead of a start class! BTW, most new articles from new editors start out as stub class, so you are already one up on the crowd!). Good job!Gtwfan52 (talk) 21:45, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

I am really very thrilled and excited about this! :-) This is my very first project in Wikipedia and my very first entry that has also been accepted (see me smiling now)! While I may be a beginner in Wikipedia, I have writing, editing, and research experience, and was a section editor of a college newspaper, so that all helped me in this endeavor. I probably put about 25-30 hours into this piece, and it has been well-worth it. I also so much appreciate all of your assistance, expertise, and suggestions; it has been absolutely wonderful to work with you, and I mean that very genuinely. Also, I do understand about the notability issue, as in relation to the Fords, though it was helpful to me to use that entry as a model. I will definitely follow your suggestions, and try to do as you have advised regarding the lede and background. Gtwfan52, You must be a mind-reader! As with the Infobox on the Ford website, I also thought about that for this article, too. Checking out how it was arranged in the Ford article, I found that it would be somewhat complicated and time consuming for me, so I opted not to include it for this article. I am pleased and happy that you are creating it, and I would like you to go ahead and do so. I know that Mr. Gernatt, Sr. began trucking gravel from his property at the Collins, NY hub of the operations. I am not sure if that would be the location of where it was founded. Does that also mean the city where it was incorporated? If that is so, then it's probably Buffalo, NY, but I wouldn't know that for sure. I do know that the company logo is a registered trademark, though you have the knowledge for how to use it, so please go ahead. ... Also, I am using your User Page as a model to try to add some of the boxes on my User Page that you have as a heading on your page. Where is there a listing of these boxes? And, when I input a couple on my page, it shifted my previous text entry to the left of the page, but I don't want that to occur. From your description, I would say that its location of founding would probably be where its office of record was in 1946. I am guessing you must live in New York and as such that information would probably be easier for you to locate. For start up companies, frequently their office of record is the office of whatever attorney did the papers. That is especially true for companies that started in or on a person's home place like this one, and for companies that may not have had any need for a sales office at the start, quite possibly also like this one. I am satisfied with Collins for it tho, and that can be sourced back to the company website (altho it is not really nessecary, unless someone disputes it, to reference trivial things like that.

As far as the userboxes go, many people make their own. There is Category:Userboxes, and WikiProject Userboxes, but most of mine I have simply nicked from other users pages. I have mine grouped in a template, of which there are several, to help me make them display how I want them. Just look around at userpages and when you see a layout you like, open the page in edit mode and copy the wikicode for the template. You will have to look at a few to get the hang of it, as the userboxes are templates too and it can get kinda confusing as to what is what. To solve your immediate problem of the userboxes crunching your copy, just make sure the copy comes first. Then your userboxes will appear in lines underneath the copy. Perhaps an easier way would be to just make a level two heading for your userboxes. (Like this: ==Userboxes==, then put your userboxes underneath.) Please take the time to fill in some fields in that infobox I got going. I don't want to take the time to familiarize myself with the company enough to make some of the entries. And when you think it is ready, just let me know. I really do want you to upload the logo when the time comes, as copyright related things and images are some of the hardest stuff to understand in wikiland. You are a quick learn; you will get it first time! Happy editing. I like that one much better, but I am not sure if I will run afoul of the copyright exceptions by getting it from a page not related to the company. i have gotten school logos from the school's Facebook page, so I'll give it a shot. I will go ahead and put the whole infobox on the article now, so if you or anyone else feels like adding more to it all the fields will be there. The only ones that show are ones with data in them, so it will appear nice and neat, albeit a little small. The categories are spot on. They were a little too broad before. Categories are arranged in a tree so to speak. eg: mining companies→mining companies in the United States→Mining Companies in New York→mining companies in erie county, new york. Central Bucks High School West

Hi Gtwfan52, I won't argue to reinstate Michener or Mead as alumni, but my rationale for keeping the former was that he attended Doylestown High, which was, according to the article, the previous incarnation of Central Bucks. My rationale for removal considered that (I left Mead, so if she is a Doylestown alum she should probably go too), but the founding date for CBHSW was 1952, the date it replaced Doylestown. There is no other mention of DHS in the article, other than CBHSW replaced it. If you know of anyplace I can find info on Doylestown, I'll be happy to do an article on it!
