Welcome! edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Wikipedia format edit

If you are going to add articles to Wikipedia, could you please make sure they are formatted according to the Wikipedia guidelines? See fx Gerbil for an example of how fx Gerbillus nancillus should look. Thue | talk 20:01, 13 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Argonaut 781 edit

I have cleaned up this and a couple of your other Argonaut articles by adding a proepr stub tag, and making the format a bit more standard for wikipedia. Please take a look at what I did, and consider followign standard foramtting a bit more in future. In particualr, please try to write in complete sentances. Please do not abbreviate dates, see WP:MOS for more on date formats. when a full date is given (day, month, and year) please link so date preferenmces can be applied. there is IMO no reason to link a year standing alone, although some people do. Alternate names of a person or ship should be in bold within the first sentance if possible, as should the main name of the article. Ship names are also in italics. Thanks for your contributions. Numismatics edit

Hi, thanks for the the little table thing (NumismaticWikiProject-Member), thats neat. Anyways, just wanted to let you know where I stand and where I want to go. First, I'm really new in contributing to Wikipedia, so I must learn along the way.  :) My personal intersts lie in U.S. paper currency and world(inlc. US) bullion. I would like to see a glossery of terms for easy reference first. All beginners and most experienced amatuers still need a refresher now and then. But I was thinking some people might think a glossery would be better off in Wikitionary. As long as I can get to it, while reading articles, is what I would want. After that, I'll probly start on bullions, I think I have more references on that, but if you would like something else, let me know. :)

Note edit

I do no know if you are the person who is continually changing the web page relating to me at "Avram". I do not know if it is you or George Cruikshank or Gene Poole, or you are all the same person, but I find it offensive and part fact and fiction. No one from there has tried to verify any facts with me and it appears they are not interested in facts. Could all the above be stopped from puting their apparent brand of fiction on that page.

The Grand Duke of Avram grandduchy@hotmail.com

  • To the Grand Duke of Avram,

I am not responsible for that article, I only fixed the formatting and added a stub. I'm not sure if it can be stopped however.I do not know anything about the topic of the article. You could edit the article yourself, if you've not already done so.

playwright-stub edit

The {{playwright-stub}} is deprecated and in the process of being removed. In the future please use {{writer-stub}} (or one of the subtypes based on region or nationality). If the author is primarily known for writing for the theatre then also using the {{theat-stub}} is recommended. Caerwine 09:31, 25 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

My RfA edit

Mr. Wolfgang-- I appreciate your support in my RfA. Although it appears, at this point, to be headed the way of "no consensus", I hope you will think about supporting me again in the future. Many people, as you may have seen, said they would support me in a few months, so I may just have to take my lumps and try again later. Thanks for your time. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:49, 29 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Coins edit

The only ones I took pictures of so far is a 2001 "walkin liberty"(I call them) American Eagle Silver proof, and a stupid "gold quarter"(quater, gold plated), that i thought was a 5 dollar gold coin. I took pics of a two dollar bill as well. Was planning to get some more pics before I upload them tho, but don't know which ones. Joe I 02:37, 1 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Advisory Committee election deadline set edit

Our new admin general, Essjay, has set the date for the advisory committee elections, that date being October 7th. By UTC it is October 5th right now. So see WP:ESP/E for voting in two days, and add yourself to the list if you're interested in running. On a personal note, I'm considering running, as I only resigned as admin general because of time. I'm sure I could help out on the advisory committee... Anywho, watchlist that page, and be sure to read the voting method too. Regards, Redwolf24 (talk) 01:09, 5 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Bohuslav Chňoupek edit

I'd removed the battery of stubs you put in the article. The article is short but covers whole life and all activities. The person was of somehow important but not enough to have much of coverage in media or internet (he got almost forgotten during last 15 years). If there's big full article with all the details it would be on Slovakian Wiki. But Chnoupek's biography needs to be written and published first. Pavel Vozenilek 19:45, 10 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I removed the stubs. There are around dozen of regulars here who may edit Czech and Slovak related pages. I guess none of them is interested in a former communist diplomat and writer. I wrote the item because decades ago I read one of his books. In several years this topic will be covered by Slovakian Wiki and then it will spill over here. Until then the information is far enough, IMHO. Pavel Vozenilek 00:45, 11 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

My opposition to your RfA edit

Hi, thanks for the note. Don't take my opposition as the final word on the matter- I just haven't seen enough to be confident of your grasp on policy. On the other hand, we haven't interacted (at all, if I remember correctly), so I really don't know you aside from looking at your edit history. Others who know you better, or feel differently may disagree. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that it isn't anything personal; you seem like a solid contributer.--Scïmïłar parley 22:57, 7 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I am glad you did not take my opposition personally. I have some concerns regarding the rush with which sysop rights are being granted lately, which generally happens once the editor reaches his 3rd/4th month, which I find a little too distant from my personal ideal of six or so months of activity. If by some reason your vote begins to lean dangerously to failure I will switch to neutrality, though. Regards, --Sn0wflake 02:12, 8 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hi Johann. Thanks for your comment. I'm sure you'll still become an admin despite my objection. I tend to vote oppose to inexperienced editors because there is a huge splurge of admins being created at the moment (like Sn0wflake said), particularly from the CVU. If by some chance you don't make it this time, I'll support you in a few months. Proto t c 14:57, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

RfA Vote edit

I have no doubt that you will make a good Administrator. The primary reason for my vote, as I said in my commentary, was that I felt that your lack of time with Wikipedia might be a bit of a negating factor. This isn't to say that you won't overcome this hurdle quickly or anything -- judging by the community support you have achieved so far I would say that the community consensus is that you will do just fine. Good luck with your RfA vote (I think that you'll likely make it in), and I look forward to working with you in Wikispace! =) --Martin Osterman 18:44, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I would note that the number of edits you have is outstanding. I wouldn't worry about edits if you have to do a go-around; just the time length would probably garner you a whole lot more positive votes (including mine). :) --Martin Osterman 18:56, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

A Question edit

Hi again

I do have one question that maybe you can help me with:

on the editing history, the previous edits are marked by the date, time, and sometimes the user. then, in light gray text, it says the part that they edited or created, if i am correct. but sometimes, i see bolder italic text, in which the editer explained the changes he/she did. i have iinvestigated, and i cannot find out how to leave that message.

if you can help me, please do.

also, i am a little confused, because you have a very complex page, and it seems like i see you everywhere. do all users have complex pages, or are some kind of higher athority on wikipedia?

Mystery edit

In your gallery is a note regarding this picture

File:Goldcoin-elizabeth2-1977.JPG

. That would seem to be the reverse of the 1977 Queen's Silver Jubilee Crown. See here. (The giveaway was the ampulla and anointing spoon it depicts). - Nunh-huh 10:57, 10 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

All I can say is you clearly have a more interesting basement than I do. I don't know much about numismatics, but the silver/gold metal/coloration difference is interesting. Just in case it isn't obvious, 1977 was the 25th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation (in 1953), and the 25th anniversary is traditionally silver. So that year was the "Silver Jubilee" with "silver" meaning 25th anniversary. Because of this, the metal used in minting the crown (British coin) that year was silver. 2002 was her Golden Jubilee (50th anniversary of her coronation), and the crowns were minted in gold (but the design was different). I don't know enough to say what you have for sure. This page seems to say that they were made in cupronickel and silver. Maybe yours is cupronickel? Maybe it's a difference in lighting in the picture on the web? Our page British Twenty-Five Pence coin has a picture that's pretty clearly silver. - Nunh-huh 23:11, 10 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

You're a sysop! edit

Hi, Johann Wolfgang/Archive 1, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on Votes for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=

Please also add your name to WP:LA. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:30, 13 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Your nomination fell within the 75-80% range, which entitles a bureaucrat use his discretion to promote the candidate. I have outlined my reasons on your RFA talk page if anyone is interested. Since most of your RFA oppose votes are based on time, I suggest you be cautious in using your new powers. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:45, 13 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
