Watchmen vandalism

You took the protection off of the Watchmen main article, which is the 3rd time it has been unprotected in the last 4 hours ... did you even look at the history? It has been completely blanked several times by anonymous users in the past 12 hours alone! My edits to the country article were not even revert. Don't think they can be borderline. The edit with the list of largest buildings that you mentioned is hardly " petty syntax " as you've said. It is related to the political status of an entity, which is an important issue for an encyclopædia. Would Guam, Puerto Rico be presented as "Guam, United States" and "Puerto Rico, United States"? Would Åland be "Åland, Finland", and Greenland be "Greenland, Denmark"? — Instantnood 18:39, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

I will go outright and list all revert warring articles as they appear, instead of pretending all is all nice and cosy, or to claim that I am all innocent and the full fault lies only in the other party concerned. And the last thing I would do is to try to include my factual arguments in the talkpage of an administrator who is merely attempting to stop the bad wikibehavior. Jaguar + other stuff

I actually hate the ref after puncuation thing, but knowing it would be a problem I tried to make sure they all came after the full stop when editing today. I may have missed some, which I'll look for tomorrow. I'm quite happy with jaguar :). It's always been my favourite cat.

Hi, on the Jimmy Smith page, you changed electric to electronic. I know that the definitions of electronic do vary, and in some cases it is used fairly interchangeably with "electric". However, in a musical instrument context, electronic is often a synonym for "digital"-- e.g. involving integrated circuits. An electric guitar is thus described as an "electric" instrument, because it has simple electric workings: potentiometers, magnetic pickups, etc. On the other hand, a CASIO keyboard, with its integrated circuits and computer chips can be described as an "electronic instrument". The early Hammonds, with their electric motor-driven spinning tonewheels and magnetic pickups can arguably be described as an electric instrument, or an electro-mechanical instrument (a reference to the spinning tonewheels); this helps to make the distinction between a 1940-era Hammond "electric organ" and a 1980 CASIO electronic organ.Just some ideas: )NatMor 20:14, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Deletions

Hello Joelito, I have been working for a couple weeks now around the Puerto Rico Sections. I am considered by many as a very knowledgeable person in this area and recently consulted with PBS on the making of "Visions of Puerto Rico" if you happened to see it. I am working now with Wikimedia the parent of Wikipedia on this project, but there is an issue on the copyrights. I have sent Wikimedia a special licence to allow me to copy sections of our 42 websites to the Wikipedia. But until that goes thru my instructions from them to get things going are just point links for now so I can get my thoughts organized. Oh also we are a Public non prifit corporation registered in Puerto Rico so calling it as "links to your own private websites" is not accurate either. Now since I assume you just went on a deletion spree, are you going to fix it all or am I writing to Wikimedia explaining why I have made no progress and who is at fault? Hi, I noticed you recently removed a vadalism comment from the US talk page. While I agree with the removal of that comment I also noticed that you speak Spanish from your user page. So do you know what "ME PONENE DE RE YANKEES?" means. I know its just a stupid vandalism comment but I am just really curious what that means. Elfin-woods Warbler

It's mentioned in the lead paragraph no less! It must have been a truly exceptional moment to notice that article referenced in WSJ. If you were a less modest Wikipedian, you'd no doubt start a page entitled Wikipedia:Pages created by Joel31 mentioned in the Wall Street Journal. Actually, I think that's one of our failings—Wikipedia talks about itself too much. So better to keep it to yourself as a compliment and an incentive to keep editing; the best I've got is a word from Jill Tarter calling Planetary habitability "interesting" (in an e-mail forward). Hey, that's not bad :).

I'm actually thinking I may look at the stable versions thing more (I know little about it). I do spend hours here—is it worth it, knowing that Jaguar (or Elfin-woods Warbler) could be denigrated by kids who only care about whether the cat (or bird) could beat a croc in a wrestling match? Not that there's anything wrong with kids editing (teenagers do loads of good work here) but I've often felt, with my own pages and looking at others, that the problem with the detoriation of pages is the "that's so cool!" problem; people (kids or the kid inside adults) will add a "this is so cool!" sentence but half of them will be memes that are actually inaccurate and the page will decline.

One other thing, you should write up fair use rationales for fair use images. I've also found that there are quite a few nature photographers on flickr who use wikipedia appropriate creative commons licences, so you might get lucky there, just do an advanced search for cc licenced photos that can be modified and used commercially.--Peta 23:55, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

OK, I did what I could, but I'm not a great ce. I thought it was in pretty good shape, but there were some things (terms, etc.) I wasn't familiar with, so I didn't know how to proceed. My own preference would be for more commas and dashes, but I don't know if that's just a preference or grammatically correct, so I didn't include them. Utuado Page

Hello Joel,

My name is Joel as well (tocallo). I never thanked you for cleaning up the Utuado page after I expanded it from a stub a few months ago. I've been a fan of Wikipedia for some time now and that was my first time adding to a page. My passion for Utuado started a few years ago while researching my family's history and genealogy. Long story short, last October I bought a vacation home in Utuado and it has become my permanent home since then. I love this island. Anyway, the reason for my comment is this, what the heck is going on with the Puerto Rico pages?? User 192.203.40.2 is ruining the pages. The Utuado page looks cluttered and messy. There is so much on there now that is unnecessary and/or redundant. His/her work is sloppy.... gosh, I hate the lists! I know there is only so much you can do, but I just wanted to vent. Thanks. Isabel is Spanish, why not use the Spanish version, since that is the most acceptable version since the true English version is not acceptable, and it is an English article not an Italian one, why not just stick to the original form of her name, Isabel? I initially assumed it was vandalism because "come" appeared to be a typo of "cum", as a vulgar reference to one way of collecting DNA. That's indeed a problem. The troubles can't be actually addressed without the participation of sysops who're familiar with the subject. There have been sysops stepping in and taking actions, disregarding what's actually going on, and were not helpful at all. Hey Joel,

The anthem of San Juan "En Mi Viejo San Juan" is the most recognizable anthem by Puerto Ricans on the island and Puerto Ricans worldwide. Of all the anthems of the municipalities, this anthem is dearest of all. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and as should be treated as such. What may be or not be important to you may have importance to someone else. There is no freedom of written expression if you are the only one who decides what others can read or cannot read.

Of all the Anthem of the municipalities, "En Mi Viejo San Juan" is the one anthem that children are taught and is sung in schools in the mainland. This being Hispanic Heritage Month was not the time to state that the San Juan "Anthem is definitely not needed" This is an insult to all Puerto Rican on the island and abroad.

You have no idea what this anthem means to a lot of people, especially those that left the island many years ago searching for a better life hoping one day to return. No Respect.

That said....

I understand where you are coming from.... You must understand that this is an encyclopedia. For many on the mainland this is one of only a few place on the web you can find good information about Puerto Rico.

The libraries in the states have limited information and the information (books) is 40 - 50 years old. I learned new things about Puerto Rico while working on the pages.

Most pages had limited information. Example: Villalba is a municipality of Puerto Rico.

No more. Thats it. All I knew about most of the municipalities is that they are a municipality of Puerto Rico. Maybe a dozen had useful information.

I have added information to more than 50 of the municipalities. I know that I have created list. These lists are good starting points where people, including you can expand on.

Example: you decide to remove these sections, which had links to other pages on the portal and also places in which new articles or description could have been added. There are people who actually do not know these places exists and why.

Go ahead; tell me about Capilla del Cristo. Why it was erected on this spot. The miracle that happened here. Hint: Horse and rider. Its importance. Why the gates are closed and when do they open. Tell me about the three different festivals in June. Without a list you would not have known there were three festivals in June. Why celebrate? These are subjects that can be expanded upon. These lists help.
