Speedy deletion nomination of Jo A Jonathan Ntsimi Menyie

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jo A Jonathan Ntsimi Menyie, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It appears to be a clear copyright infringement. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.

  • It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Wikipedia is not for writing about yourself

edit

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, but it is not a place like Myspace or Facebook for people to write about themselves. It is a quite different sort of site, a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles (see also WP:MUSICBIO), and writing about oneself is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU and Wikipedia:Autobiography. The links in the Welcome message at the top of this page will tell you more about Wikipedia. JohnCD (talk) 14:36, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Jo A Jonathan Ntsimi Menyie

I cannot restore the page you posted, because it was a copyright violation, copied from his website. Copyright violation can have serious legal consequences; Wikipedia cannot accept copyright material because someone on the end of a wire says it is OK. There has to be a formal copyright release, as explained above.

That would not be worth doing because, like most people's own websites, that is written in much too promotional terms for an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view. You say you are not trying to promote, but "talented visual artist... truly is a one-man band... gathering a lot of attention... unique production style... definitely a diamond in the rough... " is PR-speak, puffery, advertisement, unsourced glowing claims, just the sort of thing an agent trying to push his client writes, but anything like that is deleted from Wikipedia at sight. Wikipedia is not to be used for any kind of promotion and is extremely resistant to any attempt to do that.

Whether he can have a Wikipedia article depends not on hopes or opinions but on actual achievements. The standard is explained at WP:MUSICBIO. It is not enough to be WP:UPANDCOMING, Wikipedia is not here to help people start their careers, it is only for those who have arrived.

Since you are his agent you have a WP:Conflict of interest - read that and WP:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest. If you want to go ahead:

  • Think seriously about WP:Notability and WP:MUSICBIO - if you cannot show that, it is too soon and you will be wasting your time. From what you wrote, it does not look to me as though he is (yet) notable. Notability is WP:NOTINHERITED by being related to notable people, or working with notable people.
  • When you write, do not think of yourself as writing for him - you are writing for Wikipedia about him. A Wikipedia article should contain no opinions, no glowing adjectives, only plain facts, neutrally stated and verifiable from reliable sources.
