Hey James Barlow. Welcome to Wikipedia. If you haven't worked out how to edit stuff yet, here's how: click that bit at the top that says "edit this page" (as if it wasn't obvious) and type what you want. Don't worry if you mess it up, someone'll fix it, but please don't deliberately vandalise pages. If you want to link to another article, just surround the subject with two square brackets, [[like this]]. On talk pages like this one, don't forget to sign after a message by putting four tildes (~~~~) after your message. If you have any questions, just ask me on my talk page. Have a great time on Wikipedia. -- Kazikameuk 00:10, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Rock n' Roll

edit

Hey, I was checking out your userpage and noticed you enjoy different types of rock music. I am currently recruiting Wikipedians to refine and structurize Portal:Rock n' Roll, and I think you'd be a good contributer. Portal:Rock n' Roll would have stuff like info on different types of rock, Featured Artist/Band, Current Events, and good stuff like that. Leave me a message on my talk page if you are interested. Crompton House

edit

Hi James, thanks very much for your recent edits to the Crompton House page. It is of course appreciated, and you are contributing much needed and level-headed content. However, having noticed your own edits, I trust you will have also noticed the recent and somewhat petty edit war regarding the schools location (if you thought it was bad, please see the Talk:Shaw_and_Crompton for an even longer and heated version of the debate!!). I should imagine you would take the position of the pro-Metropolitan Borough of Oldham side, as most editors will upon reading the related arguments. I am therefore just writing to ask for your support in protecting the page from a specific vandal, if and when necessary. I would be really grateful if you could aid us in this process, as the reverting is highly intense and focussed!

In the mean time, thanks for your contributions to the Crompton House article and others. If you feel you would like to respond (even to disagree or simply abstain!) please feel free to message me on my talk page. Thanks Jhamez84 23:31, 27 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image Tagging Image:Jl77.jpg

edit

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Jl77.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sue Anne 22:36, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Chbadge2.gif

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Chbadge2.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:14, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello James Barlow! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 891 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Woolly Wolstenholme

edit

The article Woolly Wolstenholme has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

after removing progarchives.com, we have his personal website, the website of the band he was a member of, and a book being sold on the band website. This amounts to a lack of independent secondary sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
