SF Bay

Thank you for the compliment, but contributing the images in the first place is much more valuable. Those are good photos, and give a sense of the local landscape that isn't conveyed by the other images on the page.

There's lots of good information starting at WP:HELP, also accessible via the Help link in the navigation box to the left. You've probably already been there, but it's hard to know what features are available until you've poked around here awhile.

I don't know what trailing spaces you're talking about, since I didn't remove any. Image syntax for galleries is rather more limited than for embedded images, allowing only the filename and a caption, so I cut all the extra arguments, but no spaces that I recall. Note, however, that you don't need to use underscores in filenames. That's what Wikipedia uses to refer to the files internally, but as far as Wiki syntax is concerned you can use spaces. Kenny G

I just wanted to thank you for uploading the 30-second sample of a Kenny G track. It's something I hadn't thought of doing myself, and I think it adds quite a bit to the article. For the time being though, I've removed the Breathless album cover underneath it - I think it's a bit unnecessary and untidy, but maybe it's just me. As I mentioned about you on Klptyzm's talk (and you actually attempted to delete from his talk LOL), for unknown reasons, you have repeatedly reverted the same reasonable edits by me and others without any comment or justification by you. Removing material from Wikipedia, as you did, is poor behavior and results in a bad encyclopedia knowledge base. It is also against stated Wikipedia rules.

As I had been unfamiliar with how disputes can be resolved, I will take whatever steps are necessary.

Please see WP:EQ. Also realize there are many wikis. Lots of people fight over Wikipedia when possibly one or more sides in an edit conflict would be happier editing on other wikis that cater to their points of view. Maintaining a neutral point of view is not natural behavior for most humans, only a few humans have learned to do it, and then usually only in limited contexts. For what it's worth, I find myself getting less upset at seeing my work deleted on Wikipedia when I am also editing on other wikis which have different cultures. --Teratornis 17:28, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Vitamins

Re: Vitamins are nutrients required in very small amounts for essential metabolic reactions in the body, and which cannot be (endogenously) produced by the body, itself. "In general my addition is true with notable exceptions. Shouldn't it be there?"

Well, you see, those notable exceptions are the problem with the addition. Perhaps a simile will illustrate this. Okay, say you were going to write a definition of a Ford Mustang. You would say in the first sentence:

"The Ford Mustang is a car/automobile produced by Ford Motor Company...." a similar addition to the one above would read "....and they cannot be red."

Well clearly there are red Mustangs, and without a modifier like "some" or "most" the sentence must mean "...all Mustangs are not red" (or if you prefer "...all vitamins cannot be (endogenously) produced by the body, itself). Clearly this is not true.

Adding a modifier ("...some/most/many Mustangs cannot be red") doesn't really help the definition either, when the important things that all Mustangs have in common is that they are "cars produced by the Ford Motor company" (or Vitamins are nutrients required in very small amounts for essential metabolic reactions in the body). Whether Mustangs are red or not, (or if vitamins can be produced in the body) doesn't help define them any better, it merely confuses the reader, when they read later that: "...some mustangs are red" (or "some vitamins are produced/converted by the body itself"). Your recent edits on African American history

Hello! I see that you've been putting a lot of effort into improving the African American history article. (It does need a lot of work.) Adding that new subsection heading "Introduction of slavery" was a very good idea. And it definitely needs a section on segregation -- hard to believe there was nothing on that! (When I find some time, I will try to expand that.)

Seeing as you're still "learning the ropes" here on Wikipedia, I have a couple of suggestions for you.

First, you can save yourself a whole lot of wasted effort if you take some time to read pages that explain how to edit, how to do reference tags, etc. Also, the manual of style is very important -- and very useful.

Secondly, you will make life an awful lot easier for your fellow editors (such as myself) if you make good use of the "show preview" button when you're editing. This feature allows you to try out your changes and see what they will look like before you save them. When each individual trial-and-error change is saved, it takes a great deal of time & effort for other editors who are keeping an eye on the article to go back through all of those saved edits to see what was done. And as a couple of other editors have already pointed out (above), the resulting clutter makes the article's edit history virtually unusable. That "show preview" button is my best friend when I'm editing! :)

One other thing I should mention: as a rule, it's far better to link terms to an article in Wikipedia -- rather than to Wiktionary, which generally doesn't add much of value. I didn't have any trouble finding good WP links for both of those Wiktionary links. Sometimes you have to do a bit of looking around, but it usually pays off, so it's worth the effort.

The DVD cover did not meet Wikipedia's fair use policy because it was being used to illustrate the person rather than the DVD. As stated at Template:DVDcover, DVD covers can only be used to discuss the DVDs they represent. The subsection only takes away from the quality of the article. There's no point what-so-ever to make a section about an isolated incident. Mind you, Hester returned two kicks for TDs against the Rams and had almost 300 All purpose Yards; Hester only returned one kick for a TD and had less than 110 All purpose yards against the Colts in what likely seems like a losing effort. Centaurus A

With a few exceptions, the SEDS.org website is so inaccurate, poorly referenced, or out of date that I generally revert or revise citations to those websites immediately. A "citation needed" tag is actually more useful, as it indicates more clearly than a reference to the SEDS website that the information is unverified. This is why I reverted the article. (Also, since galaxy was a feature article yesterday, several people have been making small edits to random extragalactic articles. My first assumption was that you were just another random person making a one-time edit.)

If you want, I can find a few refereed journal articles to describe whatever it is that needs to be described in Cen A. For examples of what I have done, see NGC 3031 or NGC 4594. This article looks like it needs clean-up anyway. Dr. Submillimeter 14:30, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Project news Criteria for B-Class status: The assessment criteria for B-Class have been changed. {{WikiProject Germany}} template now has 5 switches, B-Class-1 through B-Class-5 that correspond to 5 easily checked criteria that an article should meet to be assessed as B-Class. The advantage of this system is that now there is a clear boundary between Start-Class and B-Class articles. Authors of articles that were assessed as Start-Class now get more direct feedback what they should improve to attain a B-Class rating. All of our B-Class, Start-Class and Stub-Class articles now need to be checked whether they meet any of the B-Class criteria. This is a major effort, and we need your help! If you want to help, but don't know how, please post at the project talkpage. Cities and municipalities task force A task force dedicated to creating and improving articles on all German cities and municipalities has been started and is looking for help.

Thanks for your note. Cellulose is a non-digestible fiber but as a polysaccharide, it is partially fermentable meaning that it is a resistant starch -- see table 3 in http://members.ift.org/NR/rdonlyres/7F1901F3-743E-4C1A-8A3A-38473B8A1037/0/crfsfsv01n3p073077ms20001598.pdf

which is a reference used in the Fiber article. Read those first pages of the Tungland & Meyer article and you'll see it is not black & white as an insoluble fiber.

Also, to cite products like Citrucel gives an opening for other commercial sites to be added -- not the intent of Wikipedia as an encyclopedia.

Project news Cities and municipalities task force The task force dedicated to creating and improving articles on all German cities and municipalities is happy to announce that there are now (at least) stub articles for all municipalities of Germany. Now the task force is looking for help in fleshing these out a little bit. The current phase of activity for the task force is to copy in infoboxes from the articles in German Wikipedia. If you want to help, even just for a few articles, look at the instructions and links here Article Assessment: There are now way over 26.000 articles tagged as part of our Wikiproject and many still need either an importance or a quality assessment. Also there are many more out there that do need to be tagged like approx 8000 municipalities. Chinese Taipei

Hi Uriel,

First of all, please take a look at the Chinese Taipei article. The origin of the "Chinese Taipei" name for Taiwan or the Republic of China is from 1979 Nagoya pact to resolve the naming conflict between the PRC Olympics team (which is simply China) and the ROC Olympics team. Eventually, the use of Chinese Taipei spreads to other international competitions where both Taiwan and China participate in such as the Miss World, Miss Universe, or other sports competition.

This is, in no way, the "official" name of Taiwan which is the Republic of China. In the People's Republic of China, the Communist Party is not willing to even recognize the name Republic of China (they consider ROC defunct after losing the Civil War in 1949) and is forced to compromise with the name "Chinese Taipei" in international competitions. If given its own way, the PRC would definitely use "Taiwan, China" indicating that Taiwan is a province of China. Chinese Taipei still has that ambiguity that the PRC don't like but is forced to accept - "Chinese" can mean cultural Chinese instead of political Chinese term.

So your edit to the People's Republic of China article mentioning that Taiwan is called Chinese Taipei by the PRC is simply inaccurate. So, in that article, I just simply mentioned Republic of China - which is the official de jure name of Taiwan and avoid using any other name to it because of rather sensitive issue. Last, this is an article on the PRC, so let's not put too much focus on Taiwan conflict issue here. Heilme (talk) 17:08, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, Oregon Jewish Museum, Thursday, March 7

The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, in partnership with social practice artist Shoshana Gugenheim and as part of the Art+Feminism Project, will host the 2nd Annual International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to edit and/or create Wikipedia articles for Jewish women artists. The event will be held at the museum on Thursday, March 7 from 4 to 8 pm. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Members of the public are invited to come to the museum to learn about the editing process, its history, its impact, and how to do it. We aim to collaboratively edit/enter 18 Jewish women artists into the canon. Support will be provided by an experienced local Wikipedian who will be on site to teach and guide the process. This edit-a-thon will serve as both a public art action and a public educational program. Participants will have an opportunity to select an artist/s ahead of time or on site.

Portland Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon: March 12, 2022

You are invited! An Art+Feminism Wikipedia edit-a-thon will be held in Portland, Oregon, on March 12, 2022. Learn more here!

Wikipedia is one of the most-visited sites on the internet—and it’s created by people who volunteer their time to write and edit pages. Learn how to edit Wikipedia and be a part of shaping our understanding of our world. In this workshop, volunteer Wikipedia editors will be on hand to train participants on how to get started editing pages and offer ideas for which pages you can pitch in to help improve. Show up at any point during the four hours to get started!

Also: Free burritos!! We will be providing vegan, vegetarian, and meat burritos from food cart Loncheria Las Mayos. Alder Commons has a large, fenced playground. Children are welcome! Some computers will be available to borrow, but if you have a laptop, please bring it to use. We will also be leading an online training for new editors at 11am-12pm PST. Please feel free to join that training if you are not able to show up IRL.
