UCLA colors

James, I just wanted to get your thoughts on the your color name change. I don't know much about UCLA, so I figured I'd ask. At Module:College color/data, we have been going by the media guides/traditions pages on athletic teams websites. UCLA lists their colors as "Blue and Gold" in the media guides (and have for at least the past couple of years, as well as the Traditions webpage. I think I have argued this in the past with someone else on the "True Blue" name. Most generally, as I believe is the case here, "Powderkeg Blue and "Westwood Gold" are just the branding names as a some universities have been known to use different names for branding. That being said, "Powderkeg Blue" is used by reliable independent sources, [1][2][3] and at least one source says it is slightly different than True Blue. [4] I don't know if that's correct. James (^talk/_contribs) 23:10, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for those links. I'm thinking "Westwood Gold" is referring to Westwood, Los Angeles (home of UCLA) per the dailynews.com article and "Sons of Westwood"? "Powder Keg Blue" is an actual color, but far from UCLA's color; "Westwood Gold" is not and UCLA's is just Pantone 130-C. The full brand guide also shows a "Mighty Gold". Linda Katehi

Hi James! As you may remember, this particular article has been the subject of a lot or PR editing, by the subject of it and apparently by her students. I cannot recall where, (COIN?) but it was the subject of a thread on a drama board at least once. I reverted an edit yesterday by another new editor who left me a note here and had also left a preemptory note on their talk page about the edit. Re COI

Hi James, I totally see what you mean. I actually just edited that as an in-class example for my students on the differences between Edit and Edit Source. I'm collaborating with the WikieEdu program to get college students to edit Wiki articles, and this edit was made as part of an in-class demo on editing. Should I delete it? Or revert it? Duchess of Sutherland

I note you've picked up the disambiguation issue on Duchess of Sutherland - I am enough of a novice to have not spotted that your solution solves much of the problem. The rest of it appears to me to be a "content" matter - perhaps making sure that Sutherland (disambiguation)#People has a bit of extra content - which would include some female Sutherland titles that point, amongst other places, to the moved Duchess of Sutherland page. I suppose it may be unsatisfactory having one disambiguation page point at another, but I think that is down to the complexity of the names of the people we are trying to direct the reader to - the Duchess of Sutherland that I originally searched for had at least 4 different names in her life, two of them including the word "Sutherland". Between all the different Duchesses with an article on them, there are a lot of alternative names - and all of them went by the less formal title of "Lady Sutherland".

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, James Allison. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
