  Please do not post copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Grecotel S.A.. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites (http://www.invgr.com/company_profiles.htm in this case) or printed material; such additions will be deleted.   • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Grecotel S.A. with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on the article Talk page. Alternatively, you may create a note on your web page releasing the work under the GFDL and then leave a note at Talk:Grecotel S.A. with a link to the details.

Otherwise, you are encouraged to rewrite this article in your own words to avoid any copyright infringement. Hi, please do not remove Greek companies from the Greek companies list simply because they do not have an internet address. Having an internet address is not the prerequisite for being on that list - that list is for companies wholly or partially owned by Greeks. Removing companies is unfair both to those who founded and currently operate the companies and to those Greeks who work hard day in day out in those companies. Thanks

Freecyprus 13:05, 14 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, i think that you have to accept that avra mineral water or other water products from various parts of Greece and Cyprus do not constitute a company; they are just products and they do not belong to the list. If you kindly have a look to similar lists of companies from other countries you will be suprised to find out that most companies have their own wiki page not just an internet site. There are more than 60,000 companies currently in Greece. Where do we draw a line? All the Greeks work equally hard and they have the right to be represented. But we have to be realistic. If we continue to just add companies without any limitation very soon the list will be truncated or worse the page will be inactivated. I appreciate your interest in greek ompanies but let me tell you that i am equally sympathetic to the hard work of all Greeks being Greek myself thank you Ipodamos

List of museums in Greece edit

I've been watching this page since I caught it when it was nominated for deletion (and fought to have it kept). I'd like to request that you take a look at the discussion about the proposed deletion, and the reasons why people wanted it deleted. In particular, please do not add external links within the body of the article. Take a look at some of the other similar pages on Wikipedia for comparison and examples of consensus-decided styles which should be used in this article: List of museums in Egypt and List of museums in England are good ones. So if you do not go through and remove those external links, then I will do so again - I was the one who removed them in order to try and prevent the list from getting deleted. Thank you for your contributions, however - that page does need a lot of work, and you have contributed very nicely, especially with the organization work that needs to get done there. -- Smith120bh/TALK 05:27, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Removed external links but the page needs indeed lots of work. Thanks for the recommendations Ipodamos

Awesome, thank you! When I get some time, I'll put in some hours to more work on that page as well. For now, keep up the good work! -- Smith120bh/TALK 17:17, 16 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Don't switch BCE/CE to BC/AD style in articles that aren't about the Christian religion. No one switches BC/AD usage to BCE/CE, you may have noticed. The Wikipedia convention is to continue with the style in which an article has been begun. This includes avoiding "Americanizing" spellings in articles that are not specifically American. Good taste is often just a matter of good sense. --Wetman 00:38, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alekos Fassianos edit

A tag has been placed on Alekos Fassianos, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Notability of Alekos Fassianos edit

A tag has been placed on Alekos Fassianos, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Tiptoety 23:02, 27 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Did you see Theophanes of Crete? edit

Is he the same as Theophanis Strelitzas (Θεοφάνης Στρελίτζας)? I suspect yes. New article, was copyvio but I have edited. Johnbod 15:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think they are different painters. The first one lived between 1330 - 1410, taught in Constantinople (perhaps in Creteas well) and worked mainly in Russia and the Russians consider him father of their iconography while strelitzas is working at the 16th century mainly in Greece [1]. what i am worrying about is that he Theophanes the Greek might not be representative of the cretan school at that period given that he worked in Russiawhat do you think?Ipodamos

sorry just checked your bio and understood what you meant. you are right sorry for the confusion Ipodamos

It wasn't mine (originally). I think it should be re-titled "Theophanis Strelitzas" (or maybe "theophanes"), which I think is the more common name. Do you agree?

i ve just been reading some greek texts about strelintzas and they always refer to him as theophanes the Cretan (Θεοφάνης ο Κρης). I suppose that theophanes strelitzas would be more appropriate though for the wikipage Ipodamos

I'll look around English sources & open a discussion on the talk page. Johnbod 18:02, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, a mistake - thanks! I've added to the Theophanes talk page & now think Theophanes the Cretan the best rename - matching "the Greek", as per Getty Name List etc. Perhaps you could comment there. Johnbod 01:18, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Sorry to bother you, but your name came up at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Visual arts as someone who knows about Greek artists. Lembesis (Πολυχρόνης Λεμπέσης) appears to be a member of the Munich School, but all but trivial references are in Greek. Would you be able to help? Thx. Greek Scholars and Early Printing edit

Dear Ipodamos,

I am quite new in using Wikipedia, and I can't find a way to send you a message. Still, I would need to get in touch with you. I am undergoing a D.Phil. at Oxford University on the reception of Byzantine culture and literature in the context of early printing (1453-1700). I am avoiding classical Greek literature, but still I can see that many names in your list are very important for my research, and a confrontation with you would therefore be extremely useful.

All the best, deC —Preceding unsigned comment added by Myriobiblion (talkcontribs) 15:59, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Robot-carved copies of Elgin Marbles edit

Hello there

I moved your recent contribution about this to a new section called Loans and copies because it isn't really about Greek requests for return of the marbles. I also changed the wording because the article doesn't say anything about the Institute threatening to sue the BM. As for the wider issue about Elgin Marbles v Parthennon sculptures, I note that the article you supplied states that Elgin Marbles is the commonly used term for the marbles in the BM collection. However, I think we can reach a compromise on the wording. I will have a think about it and put a compromise proposal on the Talk page for further discussion. Happy to discuss. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 22:46, 19 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

I respectfully disagree; I think it's important to connect the 3D scan issue with Greece's efforts to reclaim the sculptures (its fine if you call them sculptures- the British readers will not be offended). Here are some additional links that shed light on this connection and the potential legal action against the British Museum:

The Greek Government has declined to endorse this project and it has nothing officially to do with Greek requests for the return of the marbles. It is worth mentioning as an example of attempts to make copies of the marbles and, as such, has been incorporated into the article. Thank you for drawing our attention to it. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 03:40, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
However, it's important to note that the focus here extends beyond the Greek government. Committees worldwide are actively advocating for the restitution of these sculptures, indicating a widespread and diverse movement. The section aims to capture this broader context and its evolving significance. Notably, several articles provide relevant comments that underline the connection and its relevance.
It's essential to approach this topic with neutrality, acknowledging its complexity and the various perspectives involved. Wikipedia aims to provide accurate information while maintaining an impartial stance. The ongoing evolution of this matter underscores its status as a significant issue within the realm of art history. Wikipedia's role is to reflect the various viewpoints rather than uphold any particular establishment's position.
I am still waiting for your compromise re: marbles. Ipodamos (talk) 13:00, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The NYT article is about a proposal to make copies of the marbles. It is in the right place. As for using the word "marbles" in the Elgin Marbles article, I responded on the Talk page some time ago. My proposal is to use "marbles" as shorthand for Elgin Marbles whenever talking specifically about these, and to use "sculptures" as shorthand for Parthenon Sculptures" whenever talking about sculptures from the Parthenon in general. This can be further discussed on the Talk page. Another editor has also used pronouns to reduce the number of times these words are used. However, "marbles" is a perfectly normal English word in this sense and Wikipedia is not here to promote attempts to expunge certain words from the English language. Here is the Oxford English Dictionary definition:
marble
▶ noun
1. [mass noun] a hard crystalline metamorphic form of limestone, typically white with coloured mottlings or streaks, which may be polished and is used in sculpture and architecture: the spotless white marble of the Taj Mahal | [as modifier] : a marble floor.
■ used figuratively to refer to something with the smoothness, hardness, or colour of marble: her shoulders were as white as marble.
■ [count noun] a marble sculpture: a pair of dramatic marbles showing dogs attacking a buck. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 22:42, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
