Perth Meetup 2 edit

Due to a foul-up, my WP email page was not activated which has now been fixed. As noted on the Meetup talk page, could you please email me with the details you'd like to have placed on your nametag. Firstnames and Usernames as a minimum, Surnames accommodated on request. Cheers, Thewinchester (talk) 14:44, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey I've got a couple of images that could also be used when you feel like rotating them to something different Gnangarra 09:30, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Chief of Navy (Australia) edit

I think that the article should definetly include a list of all the people who've filled the position of commander of the RAN, much like Chief of Air Force (Australia) does. I don't think that I've got a list of these people so it would be great if you could add it. --Nick Dowling 06:33, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

That looks fantastic to me. Nice work! --Nick Dowling 22:36, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

WA LGAs edit

Hi, I just happened to find User:Hossen27/Sandbox 2 from a link at the bottom of an image. I think this looks fantastic! I hope you will add this to the LGA page --Astrokey44 02:54, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hope you didn't mind me editing the text bits - still needs work, but while the 1 July 1961 changes are needed in each article, it got a bit repetitive in the summaries :) Within days now every LGA will be at Start class with the same basic information, will be good to see where we can take them from there. I'm working with another user (DanielT5) to get the Wheatbelt ones into some kind of shape, so we'll see how that goes. Orderinchaos 16:30, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Western Australia edit

Love it. Good work mate. —Moondyne 06:58, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If and when you get around to setting up the Portal DYK's, if you go through my talk page archives there's a fair number in there which relate to WA personages and things. Claude de Bernales [1] was the most recent I know of. User:Hesperian [2] and User:Orderinchaos [3] have done some as well (and other editors I'm certain). —Moondyne 07:44, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cripes from Dunsborough bakery to WA portal - wow. I have noticed at the bottom of the Adelaide portal the box with other portals - I reckon it would be good to have pointers to the Australian and adelaide portals if poss - and there is a new maritime portal that I havent been able to link to the australian maritime history project yet . My experience with portals is seeing how so few people help with them :( - the Indonesian one has a floating couple of boxes where the few indonesian project people pick themselves up so the portal dosnt get tagged 'dead' - have to make sure you can rope helpers in! :( SatuSuro 07:48, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re:sub pages with rotatable info - yes the Indonesian portal built up a backlog of info to sustain the inactive times - also some portals are not linking themselves into the australian or oceanian parent portals very well - like adelaide has but south australia hasnt - maybe some other states are hiding theirs as well! SatuSuro 08:05, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow excellent work - any chance of making one, or advising on the making of one, for the NT? Fancyfootwork 08:01, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

BTW - please feel free to modify the way I have put the info on the WA project page - it needs publicity - and also general canvassing for support. SatuSuro 08:18, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

One nightmare in the Indonesian project was the mutliple talk pages and lack of central discussion point - strongly suggest that thought is put into centralising project/portal/notceboard to one location SatuSuro 08:22, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm off until later tonight !. odd so few sub portals in oz 2. the box and rest look good 3. selected communities - what the hell is that? 4. well done - but beware the deafening silence SatuSuro 08:37, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

By the nature of those active in the project to date (not the silent thousand) I would strongly suggest select article - not community! SatuSuro 08:41, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sometimes what looks like the bleeding obvious on the project pages - I think need some subtle alterations when being moved to the portal. However some of it is potentially contentious, so when I have more time I might either send an email or very very careffully worded interpretation of some of the things about the project from my very biased and jaded point of view :) SatuSuro 12:51, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Indonesia - is one way that the centralisation of talk has been tackled - if you needed an example! SatuSuro 13:47, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

AHS Centaur reflist edit

Thanks for your attempt to divide the AHS Centaur reference list into two colums. However, when I view it, it shill shows up as one. Is that a problem on my end, or does the code on the page need to be tweaked a little? -- saberwyn 23:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cleared the cache, but its unfortunately still showing as one. Oh well, if its working for you its probably working for others, and seeing it in single column isn't the end of the world. -- saberwyn 06:22, 30 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Non-free use disputed for Image:Cardassian Dreadnought.jpg edit

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Cardassian Dreadnought.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:BattleOfSector001-2.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BattleOfSector001-2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:50, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Energy portal review edit

Hi Hossen27. I see some time ago you volunteered to help out with portal reviews. The energy portal was peer reviewed back in March. Since then it has been developed substantially and is now under consideration as a featured portal, but has had remarkably few people contributing to the debate, compared to other candidates. If you have time perhaps you would like to take a look? The candidate page can be found here. Regards Gralo 23:19, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:RAN_clocktower.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:RAN_clocktower.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 19:49, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:2nd_Cavalry_Regiment_mascot.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:2nd_Cavalry_Regiment_mascot.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 18:41, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Contribution edit

Hello. I am currently trying to contribute to a battle in respect to giving a reason why a Viking force had to withdraw from a native attack, which I think was instrumental to the article itself and since the person in question received her place in history for that act. Its my understanding that Wikipedia is meant for contributions, but the people at that region see fit to leave the situation vague. They have told me that I cannot simply copy and past from references and, in short order, I re-wrote the small addition in my own words. I don't see what the problem here is, however, they simply revert my edits and give me vague conclusion to why they have done so. The site is intended to be used for non-commercial reproduction so we have no problems in copyright infringement. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
