Thanks to contributors

edit

I think that I'm through with this subject now. When I first accessed it, I was so disappointed that my favourite loco had such scant and unreferenced information. I've tried to do these 8Ps justice and I'd like to express my admiration for the guys who wrote Liveries, Accidents and Incidents and Stock List (which I renamed List of Locos, sorry!). I realise that this is an open site and that others may wish to do what I have already done, so look after it, folks. Hoots Mon (talk) 22:37, 2 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Jenkinson page nos.

edit

I have quoted page nos in Jenkinson (1982) because I counted them myself! Should I have quoted Plate Nos as "loc=Plate xxx"? But that leaves the info taken from the first 4 pages; how should their location within the book be identified? Hoots Mon (talk) 13:21, 12 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Citation for Brighton Toy Museum

edit

I have always been wary of this citation as it is little short of hearsay. Should it be deleted?Hoots Mon (talk) 13:09, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Mistake in table of locomotives

edit

I have had to correct an item in the Table of Locomotives regarding No 46251. The date of receiving its smoke deflectors was Aug 1948, yet in Accidents and Incidents there is a photo in Apr 1948 showing its damaged smoke deflector. What is the source for this table so it can be checked? Hoots Mon (talk) 13:02, 18 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

The Book of Coronation Pacifics Mk2

edit

i have come into the possession of the above book. It is an updated edition of the excellent original by Sixsmith and the author, Baker, has conducted his own researches to write Mk2. I believe that dates given in this book are well researched and that unless challenged specifically by another author (of which there is one instance), dates given in this volume should be definitive. The issue most at odds with many of the dates in the article so far are dates of receiving new smokeboxes. I shall first test Baker's dates by studying photographs at given dates. Black tint to blue in contents

edit

I'm puzzled by this edit summary. You didn't alter a tint - you made a spelling correction. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:58, 13 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

I could have sworn that the correction triggered a change in the font colour. The fact that it stood out as being black in the contents box is what led me to notice the spelling mistake. But I can't replicate it I must admit. Hoots Mon (talk) 14:55, 14 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

More black

edit

Hi, regarding images like this and the others at LMS Coronation Class#Table of BR liveries - a JPEG file isn't a very good way for depicting unbroken solid areas of colour. A PNG file is somewhat better, but personally I would create a SVG file. Here's that same black rectangle as SVG:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<!-- Created by Redrose64 for Wikipedia -->
<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" version="1.1" width="75" height="117">
  <title>LMS plain black livery</title>
  <rect width="75" height="117" fill="black" stroke="none" />
</svg>

It's much smaller in terms of disc space used, and is infinitely scalable without loss. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:43, 5 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I've been looking at SVG code and it seems pretty straightforward with regard to defining coordinates and defining colours in hex. Seems fun! Hoots Mon (talk) 22:10, 5 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I use the set of docs that start at Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) 1.1 (Second Edition) W3C Recommendation 16 August 2011. There are over forty web pages linked from that: a lot of them aren't of much interest, but the ones that I find most useful are: Document Structure; Styling; Coordinate Systems, Transformations and Units; Paths; Basic Shapes; Text; Painting: Filling, Stroking and Marker Symbols; Color; and Gradients and Patterns. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 00:03, 6 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think that using this image for nos. 6230-4 is misleading. AFAIK these used the standard lining of black and yellow. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:38, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks! That had completel passed me by. Now sorted! Hoots Mon (talk) 19:00, 7 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
