Welcome

Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for contributing the Overdiagnosis article. A very interesting read. I took the liberty of "wikifying" it a bit, i.e. bringing it more into line with Wikipedia's style guidelines. Haukur (talk) 19:49, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just so you know, the WikiProject Medicine regulars have an informal noticeboard on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine. That's where I saw a mention of your good work on Overdiagnosis. I hope you'll join us. --Una Smith (talk) 04:09, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

help with overdiagnosis page

edit

I appreciate your help in editing the overdiagnosis page. I re-edited the placement of the figures to correspond with the text. Please let me know if there is a specific reason that the placement of these figures is inappropriate and I will change the text to properly reference the figures. Thanks again. I truly believe this is an important addition to the Wikipedia database. Hgwelch (talk) 12:47, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

All right, no problem. You can check out WP:MOS#Images for some hints on image use. Generally right-aligned images are preferred. Your images are also a bit on the large side. But if you prefer things the way they are I don't think there are any hard and fast rules against it. Personally I wonder if the scenario in the second image could be presented better in some other way. And I wonder if it's a bit counterintuitive to give the 4000 pseudodisease patients a 100% survival rate. Presumably, a number of them would die in this 10 year period, but not from lung cancer. Also note that as an expert in the field you may come up against the policy on original research. Essentially, we are supposed to be highly derivative of the existing literature and avoid original examples.
I think your article is very interesting. It makes me wonder if there was much point to the cancer tests my grandfather underwent in his last few years. His frail cardiovascular system was probably always going to give in before anything else. Alternatively, I don't know what kind of cancer treatment he would have been able to survive if they had happened to find something. But I am no doctor.
You may be interested in traffic statistics for the article, they can be found here. To make sure people find the article it's useful to check Special:WhatLinksHere/Overdiagnosis and make sure that articles which should link to it somewhere do so. And if you're interested in some increased exposure you could submit a "hook" from the article to WP:DYK, a section on the main page. The article qualifies under the fivefold expansion clause. There are some hoops to jump through, though.
Finally, I suggest contacting the good people at WikiProject Medicine for guidance on medical articles. I'm just an engineer who happened to be watching this article. Haukur (talk) 16:29, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Overdiagnosistable1.jpg

edit

The file File:Overdiagnosistable1.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused image, should be text instead

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --TheImaCow (talk) 21:49, 3 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
