Applicaton Firewall

Copied from Application firewall talk page

I looked at the site and it appears that the page in dispute is actually a copy of the Wikipedia article. After some digging I came over this page on their site saying that their knowledge base articles came from Wikipedia:

"Knowledge base articles are obtained from Wikipedia, a Wikimedia Foundation project. The text is under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License (Copyrights)."

So according to this I believe this article does not breach copyright laws Harryboyles 03:44, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that; I didn't notice the SFASoft site was taking the article from here. I Googled for a phrase in the article because it seems so like a copyvio due to the tone - it reads just like a lecture or presentation. It doesn't feel like an original work. RE: CityRail trains

Why was CityRail trains labelled as a copyright violation. JROBBO moved the content from the CityRail article and rewrote the content to make it more readable. Harryboyles 08:41, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

It obviously looked like a copy/paste from a website somewhere. If it wasn't, the fact that it had rarely-used fonts on this site made it look like a copy/pasted copyvio. Sorry. --Shultz IV 08:47, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Removal of duplicate word using AWB

This issue came up with three separate editors, soon after I began using AutoWikiBrowser. Stude62 first brought up the issue at 19:27, 28 April 2006 (UTC). Jmabel also brought it up at 21:57, 4 July 2006 (UTC), a while after the following discussion and clarification was made.

Hi - I've just reverted your "corrections" of my user page and talk archive, which changed grammatical sentences into non-grammatical ones. The trouble with automatically replacing duplicate words is that that can cause problems when the places where double words are are written that way deliberately (FWIW, the sentences changed read "The [New Zealand maps] showing where [places] are are mostly my work." and "[some images aren't there. Those] that are are the coats of arms of local authorities." :) Grutness...wha? 12:11, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Why are you correcting errors on people's talk pages? It's not really a big deal, but I think you should leave people's comments alone, errors and all. Pfalstad 12:14, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

It was a user page, not a talk page (my mistake) - but the archive was a talk page archive. In any case, the "corrections" weren't. Grutness...wha? 12:16, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

The fact that this issue has come up on two occasions (see above) suggests to me that there is some misunderstanding and divided opinions as to whether it is acceptable to correct grammatical errors in talk pages (although in this case it was a mistake on my behalf and I accept that. Yet to me it still reads badly in a way. Perhaps a comma to separate the parts so it does sound clearer). I believe that simple grammatical errors should be removed for grammar and readability reasons. I do not wish to change the meaning of any contributions that anyone has made as they are all valuable (except blatant attacks that aren't justified). If there is a general consensus by the Wikipedia community that archives should be left alone then I will accept that view. I do believe this is an issue that needs to be discussed so I can clarify it for myself. Harryboyles 13:18, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

I want to ditto these other concerns. WP:AWB is very clear that it shouldn't be used for making trivial changes to non-articles. It doesn't really matter if there is a slight misspelling or grammatical error on a talk page. Each time you commit a change you are saving the entire text of the article as a new entry in the database, which is an amount of overhead that simply isn't worth it for fixing miscellaneous errors in old text on talk pages that no one really cares about. Previous users have lost their AWB-editing privileges for using AWB to make trivial edits on non-article pages. AWB has a feature to trim all non-article pages from the list it is currently working on. I suggest that you use it. Thank you. --Cyde Weys 16:51, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

I delete my archive because I don't want it coming up on Google searches. If there is any way to stop that, I'm happy to leave it there. Until then I'll keep deleting it periodically. Morisset Train Station

Just wondering why you have deleted all the station info and replaced it with a link, if you are going to do this it would make sense to change every stations info box. This would make it all uniform across the stations. Even by saying this I don't think it is a good idea to substitute it with a link. Anyhow discuss on the Morisset Staion talk page. I agree with Woldo on this one. The photograph is low quality and is also has a question over its usage so preferably should not be used. Why'd you revert my post on JROBBO's talk page. While I realised that what I was saying was a mistake on my part because I misinterpreted JROBBO's edit, that's no reason to revert it. "Please do not compromise the integrity of pages." Talk pages don't have to be as rigid in their quality and integrity because they are talk pages, not articles. Talk page

The user help page for talk pages says that deletion of the talk page, once issues are no longer relevant, is a valid measure. I would prefer to keep it blank than to archive it. (JROBBO 13:20, 7 September 2006 (UTC))

DB-Userbox template

The reason is that the last time I tried to create a template with a speedy deletion notice, it was deleted somehow. Thank you for your comment nonetheless. Perhaps I will try to make the notice look like a userbox. PoccilScript 09:21, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes

Harryboyles, i see that you changed some GUS userboxes on my page to normal userboxes. Please don't, i want GUS userboxes (though i don't no why). And if you looked close, i already have those userboxes, so you made it so that i have about 4 or 5 different userboxes twice! I already have a problem with bots doing the same thing. Illawarra Line

I'm wondering where you got your source for the "official" name of the CityRail blue line - according to here and here and [1] on the official site it's "Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra" not the other way round... just puzzled - it's not the first time CityRail has it mixed up though (see Talk:Regents Street railway station, Sydney). All stations

Hi - thanks for the infobox upgrades, but can you please list stopping train type as "all stations", not "all stops" - that's the way CityRail list them on their announcement boards. "Limited stops" is correct though. JROBBO 12:21, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I'll remember that from now on. The taxi rank at Parramatta station was added by an IP address along with other incorrect information. It was left there as a "compromise" as I think my actions in reverting the incorrect information may have seem as being a bit of a stand-off, even though I made attempts at explaining what the policies are here. I wouldn't worry about him - I think you did the right thing. If people want to contribute and put stuff like that on WP, they should, as you say, back it up with verifiable sources. JROBBO 23:18, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
