Punjab Kings

edit

Hello. Please stop changing the name of the team people played for in the past. If the name of the team was Kings XI Punjab at the time the player appeared for them, that's what we should be saying in the text and infobox. If they play for the new team, then distinguish that for the years they do. Thanks. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:14, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

The team name has been changed so the changes are legitimate nd should be please let us change the name from kings 11 punjab to Punjab Kings Hajdbrudjd (talk) 18:16, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

No: if someone played for Wimbledon we wouldn't change the name of the team they played for to Milton Keynes Dons, would we. If an event happened in Persia before the establishment of Iran, we'd use Persia. And so on. We use the name somewhere had when the event happened. That's really not hard to get the hang of. Once a player has appeared for the renamed franchise, by all means change the infobox to the new name if it's a continuous period of time (say, 2018-2021), but if they signed in 2018 then the prose needs to say Kings XI. It's the way we do facts. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:21, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

But the team name has been change from kings 11 Punjab to punjab kings thats why the change has to be done Hajdbrudjd (talk) 11:00, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Read carefully what Blue Square Thing has said above. The team name has been changed recently. The players are yet to play under the new team name (Punjab Kings). All of their stats are under the old name Kings XI Punjab. That's why it should be mentioned instead of the new name. See the Virender Sehwag article. It has no mention of Delhi Capitals, only Delhi Daredevils is mentioned throughout. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:09, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

But these guys aren't retired they are current players of Punjab kings sehwag is a retired player of Delhi Daredevils not delhi capitals the difference these all players are part of Punjab Kings now not kings 11 punjab Hajdbrudjd (talk) 11:11, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Their stats/score were as part of KXIP, not PK. See Liam Plunkett, not a retired guy but was in Delhi Daredevils. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:15, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

But he isn't part of Delhi capitals now is he ? Arshadeep Singh is part of Punjab Kings not kings 11 punjab Hajdbrudjd (talk) 11:17, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

If he would have been part of Delhi capitals the team name would have changed but now! Hajdbrudjd (talk) 11:17, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Arshadeep Singh was bought in 2018, Played the 2019 IPL, when the franchise was KXIP. It should be maintained. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:19, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

The frenchisee has changed the name nd he's a part of the team still so its should be as a new name punjab Kings ( the team is same just with the new name so the name has to be changed) Hajdbrudjd (talk) 11:23, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

But it was operating under that name when he was acquired. So we say that in the prose. I've already explained what to do with the infobox once someone plays for the side this season. Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:28, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

See but now the franchise has changed so the information on players should also change the name should change cause kings 11 punjab is no more now its Punjab Kings so it should turn to punjab kings Hajdbrudjd (talk) 11:57, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Historical names are a thing. If someone was born in British India we say that, not India, Pakistan, East Pakistan or Bangladesh. We specify the differences between Pakistan controlled Punjab and Indian controlled Punjab as well. If at some point in the future the two are united somehow, anything we write about what happens now still needs to recognise the distinction now.
In a sporting sense, Kurt Warner played for the St Louis Rams, not the Los Angeles Rams. Because he did. Eddie Plank played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Whitey Herzog for the Kansas City Athletics and Rickey Henderson for the Oakland Athletics. Because that's what the teams were named at that time. It's how we do it; deal with it. Blue Square Thing (talk) 12:22, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Idk y u guys are not understanding and giving useless example when the franchise name has changed that page should be updated with the name updated what the point of giving wrong information update the man which i am helping Hajdbrudjd (talk) 12:28, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

These are not useless examples, but the manual of style we follow in all biography articles. We mention the club name, association name, college name, place name, country name, etc at the time of the event (See this template documentation). That's it. Go though the examples above, those are good articles. The day those cricketers start playing under the new club name, we can update them, but not for the events that happened before the name change. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:37, 6 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
