spelling mistake ideas

hey gurch! i see your taking a little break, but still i thought i'd let you know; if you're ever dry on new misspellings try spellchecking mega man articles and final fantasy articles in open/ms office.

for instance, this one i just did gave me about 20 new words to run! i've just noticed both those kinds of articles in my tracks a lot, and man, they've got misspellings up the yin yang! ;) JoeSmack ^Talk 15:57, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

that would be awesome if you could get that software to work for a whole list. my future plan was to make a huge regex with all my misspellings and use Martin's database dump searcher and just chug the entire dump for an article list, then use AWB for a find-and-replace. however, there wouldn't be any good way to say what was specifically misspelled in the edit summary, as multiple words could be misspelled. it looks like you've found a way to do that. pretty cool. and hey, i'd love to try it out, if you were willing, when the bugs are ironed out. Brian, the guy who pointed out the bad side of one character corrections, is right. there just hasn't been a terrific way of working around that when doing spelling corrections like this. maybe your tool will be a step away from that.

right on for working on a new vadalism tool also. seems like it's more common these days to see vandalism. something i haven't had a chance to try out yet but seems new in that realm is VandalProof. might be worth it to give a look. :) JoeSmack ^Talk 19:28, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. Seeking Editor Review Commentary (If You Like)

Hi. In conjunction with my RfA (that you voted on), I have created an editor review, to give people a chance to comment as to ways in which I can branch out or alter my contributions to Wikipedia. An RfA seems to solely focus on how one's temperment and contributions relate to how they might handle administrative powers (and the consensus on that seems to be that I'm not quite ready); the editor review opens things up a little more to a larger focus, and I'd love to hear community feedback in the sense of that larger focus, too. I just noticed that you created an archive of Talk:Expulsion of Germans after World War II which is apparently what motivated you to make the changes of {{Talk Archive}} to {{talkarchive}} throughout the other talk archives. So your enthusiasm in making things consistent is understandable although I do not agree with the specific way that you made things consistent. I have just replaced all the {{talkarchive}} instantiations with {{chronological talk archive}}

I thank you for your explanation about the discussion page on Prince Radu of Hohenzollern Veringen, and the time it took you to write it. I will study it with great care tomorrow. I think that I understand (somewhat!) better now. As the discussion page on Prince Radu is so long and unwieldy now, is it not best to archive it? I will study how to do that too. However, I am concerned that it has, however, become an attack page, using Romanian ultranationalistic sources for wild accusations. I know a case for that has to be made, which I hope others apart from myself will try to do.In the Wikipedia way, of course!

Rigantona

Hi Gurch

I created a page titled Rigantona because I felt this duo I am part of should be included in the List of early music ensembles.

We are listed in the performers register of the International Study Group of Music Archaeology (http://www.musicarchaeology.org/index.php) under my name, Corwen ap Broch, we have worked and studied with leading academics in the field including Helen Leaf and Graeme Lawson, so you can see we are not the usual medieval banquet brigade. I do not think this entry was a vanity entry. There are only 4 or 5 ensembles in Europe trying to recreate the vernacular music of the Early middle ages (ie before 1000 AD or so) so I think we pass the significance test.

I quote from the 'Deletion of Vanity Articles': "Only those articles where there is no remotely plausible assertion of notability should be considered for Wikipedia:Speedy deletion."

Would you please re-instate my entry or otherwise provide me with the reason you deleted it so we can seek some resolution.

Gurch, thanks for deleting Eiland before. The CSD was not applied in bad faith or with vey poor due diligence: this "city" does not exist, and I have explained why the link with evidence to the contrary can not be trusted on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gotem page. I would like you and/or CrzRussian and/or other admins (if you feel that you two are too involved yet) to honestly take a look at all edits by The Raven, Syphonbyte, Charlesxavier, and perhaps others to the pages Gotem, Polfbroekstraat, Eiland, Oordegemsestraat, Kottem, and the Wikipedia:WikiProject Belgium (note the text "less-widely known municipalities which play an important role in the history of Belgium"), which is nonsense when talking about the small villages and streets they are mentioning. Notice also that user Syphonbyte has a link to "gotem" on Wiktionary, which no longer exists, and a few other links as well, all to not existing or no longer existing pages. While this is probably allowed (user page), it shows his or her intentions again. Also check out (if possible) the previous versions of the mentioned articles (and perhaps others I have no idea of) by the same users. They are no newbies anymore. As I said on the Afd page, their only intent seems to be to disrupt Wikipedia and have a laugh at our expense. Fram 14:12, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Some help please?

As I am trying to revise my user page design, I still want the stuff that is already there to remain there. However, I am having trouble fitting these templates into my user page revision properly. They are infoboxes like the ones used as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones. I want to put them into the section (properly) titled Tropical Cyclones WikiProject — Tropical Cyclone Tracking Center.

• User page revision: User:Super-Magician/revise
• Templates I want to fit in: User:Super-Magician/StormStatus and User:Super-Magician/StormStatusNone (please use the last one for testing because it does not need parameters) without the titles at the top of the infobox

I am completely fine with your editing User:Super-Magician/revise. Feel free to make any appropriate changes you want. Regarding the infoboxes, I'd like them to go in there without the titles. Actually, I would only be using one infobox at a time as I use User:Super-Magician/StormStatusNone when there are no active tropical cyclones and User:Super-Magician/StormStatus to display an infobox when there is an active storm. However, see, I plan to place the final version of User:Super-Magician/revise as a template at User:Super-Magician/Main (this is where my current user page design is located). If you take a look at User:Super-Magician, you can see how I have everything laid out. Using my current design, I would place {{User:Super-Magician/StormStatus}} on my page as so:

You can see an example of this here. I would like to be able to edit this freely from my main user page (i.e. without having to go into my template and edit it). This is different from you since you place the design directly on your page. I guess this is to prevent average vandals from sabotaging my page.

For the subpage index, I was actually going to edit that myself, but if you find the time, I'd greatly appreciate the help. If you want, I can provide you with a list of my subpages which I have already compiled so that you don't have to go through the trouble of looking it up.

Now, I hope it would be okay for me to ask one more thing. I'd like an easy way to find out my nth edit. I remember seeing such a tool months ago that would easily lead me to it, but I failed to take note of it. Would you be able to find that out for me? As you can see, I've already put down my 1st edit. I'd also like my 250th, 500th, 1000th, and 2000th edits. But only if you have the time. This is my userpage. I have been subjected to abuse bu Jhamez84. This user will not allow any edits to the Shaw and Crompton page other than those made by himself. My edits were supported by another admin. You can see this for yourself. This user's IP belongs to User:Filmfan1971 who in turn a confirmed sock-puppet of banned User:Argol136, persuing a vendetta against me. My apologies for this, I'm currently compiling evidence to have this guy blocked indefinately. While this issue is being resolved I think it would be proper to revert to the last edit approved by an administrator. I am not the only person that has had problems with user:Jhamez84. He has also vandalised Lancsalot's user page and personally abused him. I storngly urge admin to check this person's page to see the full extent of his behaviour. Kildare

Hello Gurach!

It was originally I who posted my message with the title Why Cill Dara? on the talk page for Brigid of Ireland a few weeks ago. But nobody never answered my comment so I deceided to remove it. I see that You have changed it back wich meen that at least someone finds it interesting. Good! :)

Every time I've tried to change the name "Cill Dara" on Wikipedia to "Cell Dara" it is removed back again. In my opinion the modern Irish name for Kildare "Cill Dara" can fully be used when dealing with modern times. I am a historian specialized in Mediaeval history and espacially the Early Middle Ages in Western Europe 400-800 AD. I have also studied the Early Irish Language so I know that the name Kildare is "Cill Dara" in modern Irish (See Britannica etc...) but if we deal with Early Christian Ireland 400-800 AD (the Old Irish Language period) the name is not "Cill Dara" as it is today but "Cell Dara". The Scolar Franis John Byrne writes eg. in his classical book "Irish Kings and High-Kings" about Kildare in English but if You look at that book of the book in the Index segment You actually can see that he uses "Cell Dara" and not "Cill Dara" back there. This is what I have tried to do at Kildare at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kildare "Kildare (Cill Dara in modern Irish, originally derived from Cill Dara in Old Irish, meaning "Church of the Oak")" the problem is that it is even there changed back from "Cell Dara" to "Cill Dara" and it says there that "Cell Dara" is "Cill Dara" in Old Irish the same I've tried at Brigid of Ireland here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Brigit but always changed back from "Cell Dara" to "Cill Dara". I think that if we talk about Saint Brigit and her monastery at Cell Dara (modern Kildare in english and Cill Dara in modern Irish) it should be "Cell Dara" and not "Cill Dara". Arsenal FC edit - removal of beveren case

It was exactly my intent, see the Arsenal user talk page. Just because I'm not logged in doesn't mean you should automatically assume I don't know how to edit...

There are a few reasons to remove this, all of which I'm sure you are aware of:

1. You know what wikipedia is not and it is not a news service (and this is news, not a significant event in the club's history). 2. Even if the above you don't agree with, Arsenal have been vindicated since that was added and therefore it's irrelevant. 84.109.55.5 21:23, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

First of all, I have to say thank you for all of the work you did for my user page. I'm sorry I haven't been able to respond to your message for a few days.

I hope you don't mind, but I have a few additional concerns/questions...

• In the end, I decided to remove the edit links from the StormStatus templates. I can't edit the templates directly as they use parameters such as "category," "winds," etc. I placed an edit link in the title bar of that section on User:Super-Magician/revise.

• This leads to my first question. Is there any better way, cosmetically and technically, to display those edit buttons? I've placed quite a few on the page, but I have trouble right-justifying them. (I put the vandalism count in a template so I could edit it more easily.) I had to modify the spacing for each edit button by inserting   multiple times, but, for example, on the 'StormStatus title bar,' I had to put a lot (21 to be exact). Basically, I am looking for a more "permanent" solution, or, in better terms, one that is easy to maintain.
  
• My second question has to do with the float alignment of the StormStatus template. You aligned it left, but I don't exactly want it left. Is there any possible way to center it in that box, or better yet, to actually place the content of the infobox in the box that is already there on User:Super-Magician/revise (essentially, removing the infobox formatting)?

• How exactly did you figure out my nth edit? I'd like to be able to figure it out myself in the future. I see there's a tool at this link, but that depends on the toolserver and it's very inaccurate due to the enwiki_p database problems (replag is currently 13 days!).
