Nice job on the article. Myself I have been intending to starting some article on more historical expansion plans. If you are looking for another topic to work on, the trials and tribulations of the South Morang extension (Epping railway line, Melbourne) might take your fancy, or the Meeting Our Transport Challenges plan itself - articles on the four first proposed stations already exist:

First Taranaki War

I think this is very easily a "B" class article. It may well be higher, but to get a higher rating you need a more formal assessment than I'm qualified to give. I suggest you request a peer review and then go for either a good article rating or featured article rating depending on the feedback you get from the peer review. "A" class fits somewhere between these, but WPNZ has no procedure to decide whether an article is in this class. You should ask for a WikiProject:Military History A class review for that.

Second Taranaki War

I can't assess it any better. For promoting to B class please provide citations for the fact tags I put on the article and give a map of New Zealand that shows where the fighting took place. It is enough if you mark an area of conflict on the map, but a more sophisticated version with the individual battles in place would do much better. You can possible use google earth or another map and mark with a graphic editor the places where fighting occurred(plus a short text how this location is named and when it happened). I hadn't seen this comment until now, and I've already assessed the article. While the fact tags should be satisfied, a map isn't a prerequisite for B-class status. You can't use Google Earth images on Wikipedia - they're not free content.-gadfium 10:09, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

A map is the most important supporting material, although it is not always considered a prerequisite. You can use for example coloured circles to outline European settlement area, area of conflict and Maori recruitment area. Wandalstouring (talk) 15:31, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank for your comments. I agree that maps would greatly help convey information, but at the moment that's more than I can do. I'll scratch around the Village Pump at some point, I guess, to see what would be involved. I'll move on to Titokowaru's War next, which will finish the third and final section of the Taranaki wars. Taranaki maps

I'm using a location map, which is a blank map, in this case Image:NZ-Taranaki plain map.png, coupled with a template ({{Location map New Zealand Taranaki}}) which defines the latitude and longitudes of the map boundaries. {{Location map Taranaki}} is a redirect so I can call the location map just "Taranaki". There are several templates that can make use of this; the simplest is {{Location map}}, which puts a red dot and a caption at the appropriate geographical coordinates. {{Infobox Settlement}} is just a more complicated version of Location map. If you need to put multiple dots on a single map, use {{Location map+}}; you can see an example at List of schools in Northland, New Zealand, and I'll do a similar one for List of schools in Taranaki, New Zealand once I've finished writing the education sections for all the towns in the area. I haven't tried it, but you should be able to use different markers for different items, not just the default red dot. There's also {{Location map many}} but that looks less flexible than Location map+.

There aren't yet location maps for all New Zealand regions, but Grutness is the person to ask if you want one for another region.-gadfium 02:15, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Re [1]: "preamble" does actually mean precursor/prelude in an apocalyptic religious sense.

Re: Further reading

I would agree that some of these lists are in inverse proportion to the size of the articles. However, this is precisely my purpose in compiling them.

That point is to bring to notice resources that those who would want to expand these articles into something approaching encyclopaedic could consult. I don't live in Taranaki any more - and haven't a huge budget to go interloaning all the books (assuming that they all COULD be, that is). So - I'm passing on the torch, so to speak.

With regard to rowing clubs and genealogical resources, etc. - they are valuable sources for social history. Otherwise, all that really exists for many places are "institutional" histories written by newspaper journalists for celebratory features, or commissioned local body histories that are sometimes decades out of date. And these generally espouse the "great man" view of history that was prevalent until twenty years or so ago.

Another effect of structuring the "Further reading" sections in the way that I have is that folk looking for material upon particular events/subjects in an area's history can find them more easily. For example, anyone looking for stuff on the New Zealand Wars as they affected Manaia can just type those keywords into the Search box, and get a few references to get them started. Granted, they are not online - but that's one of Wikipedia's unintended ironies: an online source referring folk to print sources...

I'm a librarian by profession - so access to information is everything. If a reader can print off a list and then go to a library and ask about getting hold of stuff: then good. If they do that and start revising what's been done in Wikipedia - even better.

"The Art of Carving" concerns the carvings at Manukorihi Pa - so it is germane to Waitara :)

If you have particular concerns about specific articles / bibliographies - by all means get in touch. I'd rather prune something too big than the reverse... I'm not dogmatic about everything I've contributed :)

I'm not quite sure of what you're asking. You may believe that doo-wop provided some inspiration for bubblegum music, but because this is an encyclopedia of verifiable facts, I'd like to see a reliable source before we make that statement. The Ivy League (band)

Could you do me a favour ? There is a user (User:79.154.103.38) that seems intent on turning the present Ivy League article into a promotional site for Robert Young (who, he). If you look at the recent edit history he/she, or his/her accomplices appear in various IP guises. I do not want to get into a editing war, but am going tired of reverting their edits. Could you intervene (a simple reversal of the edit made earlier today - 9 February - should suffice). If you feel capable a short, sharp message to said user might do the trick. I do not want it to appear as if I am defending 'my precious article', but it is starting to get out of hand. I would be much obliged - many thanks,

The Ivy League

I can only appologise for not understanding the workings of wikipedia and editing of articles. Sorry if I overstepped the mark there.

It's just that only having had the said article recently drawn to our attention there are a lot of mistakes about the history of the band from the late 60's onward and we would like it put right.

Perry Ford was the only original member to keep the band together through the late 60’s, which is when Dave Buckley joined to add his unique falsetto voice and keep the sound alive and original. Dave and Jon Brennan kept going through the 70’s and 80’s (With Perry’s blessing) at a time when most 60’s bands had faded away. They built the show in to one of the best cabaret acts in the country, starring at all the top venues of the time ~ The Night Out, Birmingham ~ Talk of the Town, London ~ Batley Variety Club ~ Wakefield variety Club ~ The Bailey Circuit ~. Winning many awards such as - Club Mirror “Comedy Vocal Group” of the year -. This is not a tribute, but a genuine continuation over the last 40 years without break. There was never a question about “ purchasing” the name as it has always been with the band down through the years.
