Hello,

I stopped editing the page on my father, Derek Smith (Television Producer) because he passed away in March. I was hoping to get the Wikipedia entry before he died but the entries were twice denied.

Since there have now been obituaries in The Times, The Guardian and many newspapers worldwide, including The Hollywood reporter, I would hope he is now of significance to Wikipedia.

Unfortunately, I am not a geek and am finding it difficult to get the hang of all the jargon and computer technicalities.

I hope someone can help me get a simple entry perhaps.

I have restored the deleted draft at Draft:Derek Smith (Television Producer) so you can improve it and summarize what those reliable third-party sources report about Smith. However, if Smith's death was the only opportunity for others to write about him in any detail, that's not a partiulary strong claim to notability. There are some issues with this article that prevent acceptance. Some are technical, others are style and tone

All inline links must be removed, please, and turned into references if appropriate, Wikilinks, or external links in a section so named. See Wikipedia:External links

Much of this is reviews of his work. That we do not want. What we require here is material about the gentleman. I can think of no rationale for detailed, or even summary descriptions of his work. If that work is, of itself, notable it should have its own article. If it has that article already then a Wikilink will suffice.

An example of what not to do is this: "A Daily Express article focused on the producer rather than the famous presenter. "The farmer's boy who became a television boss is back on the land with Journey Through Summer (BBC 1 10.15), a six-part mirror-candid look at the face of the British countryside." The article also explained how the series was researched. "Mr. Smith, a documentary producer with BBC Birmingham covered the ground in triplicate to get the scene right. He said: "I read up each region, picked out the likeliest spots and then went on the hoof to size the scene up. Then I covered the same ground with Patrick. We walked I suppose, about 70 miles a week."[7]"

Instead of that, write, in your own words, what the article described about Smith, and use the daily express article as a reference to back it up.

Ideally please add links to online versions of the references where these exist. This is not compulsory, but we write for ordinary readers who like the instant gratification of being able to see what is written in the reference with ease.

Consider turning his abundant body of work into a list, perhaps in a table. Table syntax is awkward, so you will probably need help. Once you have pared the information down to the minimum useful you may wish to deploy {{helpme}} on your talk page and state with precision what you wish to achieve. A gnome will be along to help you quite quickly after that.

Our role as reviewers is to seek to ensure that an article will not immediately be subject to one of our deletion processes when it is accepted. That is why we push it back to the author. We want to accept articles.
