The Voice

edit

Hi Shereen, thanks for your email. There are two issues here

  • It did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. Although I have no doubt that The Voice meets the criteria, you do need proper sources (in other words, not just your own websites).
  • It was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims include: young, energetic tea... full of enthusiasm... its innovative design, professional editorial standard, and campaigning zeal struck a chord with its youthful leadership... popular appeal, respected throughout the media.. Th Voice is truly grateful... Much more in the same vein, including sentences beginning "We" and Watch this spot for additions to our digital offerings. This is not your Facebook page, it is an encyclopaedia, which anyone can edit.
  • Similarly, there are numerous expressions of opinion presented as fact and without reliable sources often hostile society... intended to treat Black people as 'immigrants' intrusive, problematic and alien... In our battle to succeed against all odds, we faced and overcame the problems that all new Black business ventures must face I'm not foolish enough to think that racism doesn't exist, but this isn't the place for a polemic.
  • Conversely, we are told nothing about the publication itself; I don't know what it's circulation is, where it's published, what the structure is, characteristics of the readership. Is it just British Caribbean, or does it cater for Africans, Indians, Chinese etc?

The newspaper needs an article, even I've seen it, but you need to completely rewrite as an encyclopaedia article, not an extra Voice website Jimfbleak - talk to me? 20:59, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, The Voice - Britain's Favourite Black Newspaper. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - The Voice (newspaper). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at The Voice (newspaper) - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. AllyD (talk) 21:52, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

You asked "please tell me what I am doing wrong". In the first place you failed to do a search to see if there was an article already. Then you failed to read Jimfbleak's message above. Have you seen the article The Voice (newspaper)? Please answer. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:00, 19 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please contribute to improving The Voice (newspaper), if you can, instead of trying to create a new article for the paper at a very biased title. Thanks, --ThaddeusB (talk) 05:16, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am puzzled: your user name suggests a connection with the Gleaner Company but you are writing an advert for a rival newspaper? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:35, 20 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
