Chief Audit Executive edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Chief Audit Executive, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.zaheerzaidi.info/IA.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 22:50, 11 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of IACPA edit

A tag has been placed on IACPA requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.   ArcAngel   (talk) ) 00:36, 15 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dear Wikifriends, I am sorry for this Copyright issue. I wanted to have the list of "Standard-setting Boards" in that page, and I thought a minimum of description for each was necessary, so I took their "official" definitions. I will be more carefull in future. Sorry also for not having answered sooner to your note of 7Feb, I had not read my page sooner.Gilles 06:19, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:42, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Coordinated organizations edit

Bonjour, Gilles. I've just done a cleanup and copyedit of this article in your sandbox, per your request at Wikipedia:Pages_needing_translation_into_English#Co-ordinated_organisations_User:GillesAuriault.2FSandbox. Hope you approve. Textorus (talk) 22:29, 29 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much, you have even added some translation! I will post the page on Wiki in a few days, I am waiting for a copyright opinion from ArcAngel and Coren.Gilles 05:31, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your question edit

Hi. I figured I would reply to your note here. I've reviewed User:GillesAuriault/Sandbox on your request. I'm afraid that it needs a little more work.

While some of the content seems fine, and removal of the history section is a big help, some of the material is derivative at least of [1]. For instance, that source says:

Their aims and activities are quite diversified. The staff consequently have widely differing qualifications, skills and experience and are recruited from many sectors of economic activity in Member counties.

The article says:

Their aims and activities are quite diverse. Hence their staffs have very different qualifications, experiences and expertise, and are recruited in varying economic sectors of member countries.

Content like this would constitute a close paraphrase of the original source.

I see that you yourself wrote the article on the French Wikipedia. This adds some challenge to me in addressing the translation, since my grasp of French is rudimentary. But it seems that there may be some concerns with that source. For example, I see that the French article contains the following text:

Outre les membres de plein droit, l'Assemblée accueille dix-huit autres pays, qui doivent utiliser l'une des huit langues officielles. 7 Les langues de travail sont l'anglais et le français.... Dans la pratique, la langue utilisée est essentiellement l'anglais.

This copyrighted document says:

Outre les membres de plein droit, qui cotisent au budget de l'UEO, l'Assemblée accueille dix-huit autres pays avec des statuts divers (membres associés, observateurs, associés partenaires), qui doivent utiliser l'une des huit langues officielles. Dans la pratique, la langue utilisée est essentiellement l'anglais. Les langues de travail sont l'anglais et le français.

Some of the content now in our article may be derivative of this, and some of seems to be a direct translation of that or another official source. For example: "In practice, the language used was essentially English." This is a word-for-word translation from that source, and must be formulated as a quotation to meet the English language Wikipedia's practices. (See Wikipedia:Copy-paste.)

The same source says:

Again, it is difficult for me to judge the level of paraphrase from that to the English version. And since I am not near fluent in French, I cannot easily assess other content. I would be happy to try to help you revise the content for the English Wikipedia as needed, but I would need to find somebody better in French to help determine the extent of the need. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:27, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Salut, although French is also my second language I reviewed these texts and I agree that the close paraphrasing is problematic. This report shows a substantial number of long copied phrases, such as:
"OCDE: Les langues officielles et les langues de travail sont le français et l'anglais. En pratique, fort déséquilibre en faveur de l'anglais."
"Les langues de travail sont l'anglais et le français. Les documents sont systématiquement et simultanément publiés dans les deux langues."
A simple Google search shows that these are not common French phrases (e.g. "fort déséquilibre en faveur de l'anglais" has no Ghits beyond these documents), nor do I believe they represent the only way of expressing these ideas. Dcoetzee 12:59, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much to you Moonriddengirl and Dcoetzee. I have deleted a lot, so there should not be any CopyVio anymore... (Allthough I think there was no real issue with texts of the French Assemblee Nationale, since they are published to be used by citizens, as long as they are not distorted - which is probably why French WikiAdmin have not seen any problem with quoting the Assemblee Nationale) GillesAuriault (talk)Gilles, 30 March 2011 (UTC). I have also shortened the quotes on the French Wikipage about "organisations coordonnees".Gilles 15:30, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of CSAIO edit

Hello, GillesAuriault, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, CSAIO, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

It helps to explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the Help Desk. Thanks again for contributing! Sparthorse (talk) 11:21, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I still think that the CSAIO page is useful... The page helps (with the hyperlinks) to understand how many trade-unions try to coordinate their actions and learn from each other; A perspective which is not readily available on the Internet, and which other wikipedians will enrich I hope.
I am not a very experienced wikipedian, so if Sparthorse has another opinion (that "CSAIO is not of clear notability") he may well be right... Whichever the final decision will be, Thank you anyway for your help, Gilles 14:39, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of List of three-letter initialisms, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://fr.goldenmap.com/Liste_de_sigles_de_trois_lettres.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. Your contributed article, List of three-letter initialisms edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, List of three-letter initialisms. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - WP:TLA. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at WP:TLA - you might like to discuss new information at [[Talk:WP:TLA|the article's talk page]].

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions.

This duplicates the pages listed at WP:TLA, and which were moved into project space in 2006 (see Wikipedia_talk:TLAs_from_AAA_to_DZZ) 76.65.128.198 (talk) 09:23, 18 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for deleting the duplication. I had not found the WP:TLA page before. I have added a link to the WP:TLA in the French equivalent page, and the same for en:Wikipedia:List of two-letter combinations. Gilles 12:44, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

What did you think about the deletion notice you received? edit

Hi GillesAuriault, In November you received a message about either "Nomination for deletion" or "Proposed deletion" of an article you created. I'd like to ask you a few quick questions:
1. Was the message helpful? Were the instructions clear and easy to follow?
2. If not, how do you think the message could be improved?
3. What do you think about the deletion process in general? Do you understand how to contest a deletion?
You can feel free to answer on my talk page or send me your response by email (mpinchuk wikimedia.org). (I won't quote you or link your answers to your username if you don't feel comfortable with that.) Your feedback is incredibly useful for improving the content of deletion notifications, so please take a minute to think about and answer these questions. Thank you! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 20:49, 17 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Maryana, I am very happy to meet a Community Organizer! (That must be one of the new dream jobs of the IT era, no?!)
  1. Was the message helpful? Were the instructions clear and easy to follow? Yes, absolutely.
  2. If not, how do you think the message could be improved? ... not sure it needs to, in my kind of case...
  3. What do you think about the deletion process in general? OK! Do you understand how to contest a deletion? Yes, but I did not find it necessary to contest.
I have had 3 pages deleted in 5 years, and they were all OK with me! IACPA was a Redirect-page with a mistake, so it was 100% OK to quickly delete it. The page List of three-letter initialisms was already existing at Wikipedia:TLAs from AAA to DZZ, a page I had not found before because few links led there. So it was completely normal to delete my page. (Since then, I have created quite a few cross-reference links between the French wiki and English wiki, Italian etc.). As for the deletion of CSAIO, I regret it a little because I think it was a useful info with quite a few hyperlinks, but on the other hand I am not an expert in 'encyclopedialogy' so I accept the decision of experts. It was anyway a short page, no link with me at all (I just like to find quickly in WP the signification of initialisms I encounter, and I have added a lot of these initialisms in the English and French wikipedia).
Thank you very much for your inquiry, Maryana.__Gilles 17:18, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you! edit

Thanks for your feedback on deletion notices, and for helping us better understand the deletion process from the point of view of new Wikipedians! A tag has been placed on Association for Human Resources Management in International Organizations requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". A tag has been placed on Airborne Precision Spacing requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/4106260. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
