Welcome, newcomer edit

Welcome, GemmaMS! I seem to have located you as a new editor, somewhere lost and alone in the vastness that is Wikipedia. Never fear, you have found yourself a guide! If you are lost or confused, you might want to take a look at this FAQ.

If you find yourself with a great deal of time, you can start out at the Introduction and work your way through the many pages listed in that page.

I cannot stress enough the necessity of reading - it is absolutely fundamental to your understanding of Wikipedia. I know it's complex and overwhelming, which is exactly why I want to help you. Please feel free to ask questions liberally; the Newbies' help page and my talk page are perfect places to post your queries. Just edit the page using the tabs at the top, and ask away!

In addition, here are some useful links:

Again, welcome!

I noticed you mentioned you're interested in music and history, and such things...and so am I. So if you ever feel like doing a collaboration or anything, let me know ^^ —Keakealani 19:00, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

You can use {{stub}} for general stubs, or there's a link to find the specific stub template that you want ^^ —Keakealani 04:44, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Small-Acoustic guitar sound hole.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Small-Acoustic guitar sound hole.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:10, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

NPOV - La Niña de los Peines edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. As a member of the Wikipedia community, I would like to remind you of Wikipedia's neutral-point-of-view policy for editors. In the meantime, please be bold and continue contributing to Wikipedia. Thank you! RichMac 02:06, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

My major problem is with the following "is considered the most important woman flamenco singer of the 20th century" considered by whom? It is opinion and should be avoided. Perhaps I consider "Lola Flores to be the most important woman flamenco singer of the 20th century". I'm not doubting the importance of this singer, there's no need to get defensive. I'm just suggesting you rethink that wording. RichMac 02:25, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough on removing the NPOV tag. It appears to be sufficiently valid and substanciated. Perhaps I was a little rash and I am indeed not an expert in that subject. After seeing hundreds of new articles with claims of 'most important' it all becomes a little fuzzy. My apologies. RichMac 02:47, 22 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pepe Marchena edit

I came across this edit while newpage patrolling. It is properly formatted, has sources and all the correct sections. Well done and keep it up! Have you considered submitting them to T:TDYK for display on the main page? - Mgm|(talk) 19:27, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Yes, if you don't flood the place, self-nominations are totally acceptable. Remember to put it in the right date section. I left a note in the Nov. 25 section to ask someone else, but you can put it there yourself instead. You know what facts are interesting. - Mgm|(talk) 21:54, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

On November 29, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Pepe Marchena, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Well done and a warm welcome to Wikipedia. Hope to see you back at DYK. All the best, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 07:26, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Flamenco - Compás edit

Is it possible to ask/suggest that you add information to the Flamenco entry to include compás? Of course it is a subject that could be its own entry, but a quick explanation would be helpful.

Hi, Exitao, I've started your talk page here User talk:Exitao, there you'll find my answer. Ah, remember to sign and date your contributions to talk pages, just add four tildes (~) and your signature will appear.

Fella7 mengu edit

Hola Gemma

I thought the same as you as I dont really trust Blas Infante's theories, so I looked in an Arabic dictionary a few months ago for the root of mengu. I cant remeber the exact word but I did find the word that Infante was referring to and mengu (o una palabra que se parece mucho) does mean escaped or fleeing or something like that. I left my dictionary in Spain, when I come back for christmas ill send you the word and its translation.

Hi Gemma,
I think it was me who originally added the Fellah Mengu reference. I do not personally have a strong opinion about it but I considered it worth mention it (it is verifiable at the end of the day). On a different matter, I would appreciate if you could lend me a hand with the Juan Peña El Lebrijano article. You have been doing a hell of a job with other Flamenco articles. Best wishes, Asteriontalk 23:07, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi Asterion,
Sorry I haven't answered before. I haven't been in Wikipedia last week as I've been quite week. I hope to have more time after the new year. I'll try to add some more info to the Lebrijano article but I don't have a lot of material about him, as I haven't followed him much, but there is something in the "Discoteca ideal del flamenco". Cheers. GemmaMS 22:20, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh, no worries. Merry Christmas and happy new year. Asteriontalk 23:19, 25 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Flamenco guitar edit

I fixed the name of the image in your Flamenco Guitar userbox. Unfortunately I couldn't do anything about the link color (It comes out dark blue in my browser; it's invisible).

Also, any help with expanding Flamenco guitar and associated articles would be appreciated.

Catalan culture challenge edit

I've seen on your userpage that you speak Catalan: From March 16 to April 15 we will be organising the Catalan Culture Challenge, a Wikipedia editing contest in which victory will go to those who start and improve the greatest number of articles about 50 key figures of Catalan culture. You can take part by creating or expanding articles on these people in your native language (or any other one you speak). We look forward to seeing you! ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
