Proposed deletion of Flores Knistoff edit

The article Flores Knistoff has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. JohnCD (talk) 11:49, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Flores Knistoff edit

Thank you for translating this and adding a reference. That is enough to save it from deletion as an unsourced biography, but if it is to be kept it needs more references to confirm what it says. The Wikipedia:Verifiability policy is that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source."

For instance, the article claims that his work is in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, but when I looked for him in the MOMA website's list of artists I did not find him. References to confirm that his work is in permanent exhibitions like that would be particularly useful, because it is one of the criteria at WP:ARTIST 4(d).

There is an article about him in Spanish at es:Freddy Flores Knistoff, but that has no sources.

There is good advice on writing acceptable articles at WP:Your first article. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 20:45, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Flores Knistoff edit

Thank you for retiring the deletion warning and for your kind advice. I'm still in the editing process. The reference to the piece at MOMA is the following: http://arcade.nyarc.org/record=b552499~S1 This reference goes with the picture of the book and the page of Freddy's work. So I still have a lot of links and data to reference to obtain something seriously documented. Gosh I wouldn't have thought this could be such a complex and captivating task! Kind regards, Georges Gdrouet (talk) 21:11, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

That page does not mention his name. The point of Wikipedia:Verifiability is that the reader should have to take nothing on trust. A reference is useless unless it allows the reader to verify the statements in the article. A picture of the cover of an exhibition catalogue, without his name, does nothing to prove that his work was in the exhibition, and so is not a reference. Only the Phases catalogue has his name, and that is in illegibly tiny print, one in a list of 70 names. See WP:Notability (summary) for the sort of coverage looked for. JohnCD (talk) 21:51, 3 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have just added a scan of the page listing the name of the artists whose works are present in the book "Hans und Lote lesen" that is part of the collection of the MOMA. Would that be a reliable source?

I will also upload the internal pages of each of the mentioned catalogues.

Which process do you think is the most valuable one:

- uploading all covers first and then internal pages

- or should I upload one cover and internal pages exhibition after exhibition?

I might also have made a mistake by erasing the verifiability warning at the beginning of the page, sorry for that, it wasn't my intention... How can that be put back online?

Thanks

Fair-use images edit

Gdrouet, it's been explained to you several times, starting with this edit, that non-free images can only be used in an article specifically on that topic. They can't be used to illustrate an article on a person who contributed to the exhibition or book. Also, they don't count as references - a review of a book or exhibition, or a complete listing of its contents on a library site such as OCLC Worldcat, establishes that he contributed; a picture of the cover of a book or catalogue doesn't. Please stop adding these; the use is not permitted and doesn't help the article except to make it pretty. Yngvadottir (talk) 19:41, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

complex situation edit

On one hand I'll see the uploaded images erased because they are not linked to any article. In he other hand, I can't upload them because they are non-free images...

Can you tell me if I succeed in releasing the rights of those images, that I'll be able to use them on the article to make it "pretty" as you say?

What kind of proof should I obtain from the respective museums and galleries?

Another option is to set up Wikipedia articles related to the different exhibitions and then link Flores Knistoff biography to these articles.

From your opinion, which of those two options would be the most appropriate one?

Thanks for your answer.

Best regards

Gdrouet (talk) 19:53, 12 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think you should let the images go. I doubt you have the legal rights to them, or could get it, and if you could, releasing them as fair use means anyone can use them in any way, on or off Wikipedia. And I don't believe you could establish notability for the exhibitions. Published reviews of the exhibitions mentioning his name would be the best way to prove he participated in them (and just one would do for each exhibition; you would need several lengthy reviews to make an article on the exhibition). The books are a bit more complicated. If they are edited collections of works by a school of artists, find a listing at a catalogue such as WorldCat that includes the names of the artists; or a listing at the publisher's website (you may have to use the Wayback Machine to see an old webpage) that lists the artists. If it is an "art book" such that the book itself is a work of art, find a good description somewhere, for example at a dealer's website, including his name.
