Arvanitis

Thank you very much for your compliments on my page. It was actually my first contribution to Wikipedia!! I was wondering, How can I get the page name to be both Yorgos and Giorgos Arvanitis (I.e. whichever first name you type, you get to the same page)? About him being an arvanites, well, I have to admit that it is an assumption. I will enquire about it and try to find a source. However, it is a rule of thumb that with such a name one is a real arvanites. The other possibility is that someone from his familly was at some point nicknamed like this (and it stayed on) because he/she came from an arvanites region or spoke only arvanitika.. but that would be less likely.. Is there no way to block for longer? His modus operandi so far has been making massive additions, and then waiting a few days until everyone has forgotten about him before popping up again and continuing the campaign. As you can see, there have been no other substantial edits from his account, so by blocking the IP for longer, there's little risk that it would limit productive editing from any user connected from that IP. Architecture in ancient Greece

If someone wants to write an article on this subject which treats the subject more fully than I have done at Art in ancient Greece, they are welcome to do so. But there is no point in just copying the text from one article and calling it a new article, which is all this is (apart from some rubbish content which would need to be deleted anyway). I'm not sure from your comments whether you are aware we are talking about two different articles: Greek architecture, which you criticised, and Architecture of ancient Greece. The former was designed as a diachronic summary article of all periodds of Greek architecture, and its "classical" section was indeed pretty much identical to that in Art in ancient Greece. The latter, however, is substantially more than that, and makes sense as a subarticle (detail article) for the summary section in Art in ancient Greece, for all I can see. • Art in ancient Greece is an exact copy of the architectural section of Art in ancient Greece, which is where I wrote that text to go and where it belongs, in the context of a discussion of ancient Greek art as a while. A few changes have been made to it, nearly all bad.
• Greek architecture is the same material, with some very poor material about Minoan and Mycenaean architecture stuck on the front, some mediocre material about Byzantine architecture at the end (already covered much better in Byzantine art) and one paragraph on the whole of modern Greek architecture (about which, as anyone who has seen modern Athens knows, the less said the better).
• My solution to this is to redirect both articles to Art in ancient Greece, and to allow someone to write Minoan architecture, Mycenaean architecture, Byzantine architecture and Modern Greek architecture if they want to. More of the Buddhism business

Per your advice I opened an RfC. There's been no disruption of the main article since. However, Dembot put in his version at the redirect page Buddhism and Christianity (and changed another redirect page, Buddhist-Christian Parallels to link to his version; the third redirect page, Buddhist-Christian parallels, was left alone this time although he has cut-and-pasted the his prefered version there in the past). I've never seen anon votes before in my entire wikilife. How are we supposed to count dynamic multivoting IPs? You already know I have participated in dozens of polls, and everytime I see anons stricken. Also, elections would suffice in WP:WHY; and your vote count clearly refers to another issue (IMO). In any case, that'll be a first! I know Saxifrage is an experienced admin (he helped me once), but I think this is wrong judgement. Also, I kinda don't like it that every single opposing vote has to be dealt with extensive flooding comments from Oz and others. There seems to be a constant pushing that refuses to acknowledge the existence of yet one other POV in that talk. Altaic (again)

Hi, first of all, congratulations for your adminship. I think, at the end, we solved our dispute about the dispute. Together with Khoikhoi, we proposed a new solution to the tag problem also keeping Ante's comment "the infobox says "Language family", and if Altaic is not a family then removing the tags could eventually turn out to be misleading" in mind. The Altaic hypothesis page (which is nearly a copy-paste edit) was merged with the Altaic languages page. The solution for the info box is as follows:

Hi. I am puzzled about the above named article. Was there such an article which was deleted at some time? I see a bunch of AfDs for other Lutheran Schools of Theology, which refer to an Afd for this one. The abovenamed school appears to be a legitimate and accredited one, with 32000 Google hits. Its web page says "The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia is one of eight seminaries affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a denomination with about 11,000 congregations in the United States and some 5.2 million baptized members." As such, it should have gone through the norman AfD process so that other editors could comment on the nomination and perhaps correct flaws in the article. I see you are an administrator, so I am hereby requesting that you post a copy of the speedily deleted article to my user page so I can see what was lacking in it and perhaps provide evidence of the notability of the school. Two weeks ago I couldn't even spell administratur and now I are one (in no small part thanks to your support). Now that I checked out those new buttons I realize that I can unleash mutant monsters on unsuspecting articles or summon batteries of laser guns in their defense. I see you're fairly conversant in Greek, so I'd like to ask if you could translate something for me. I managed to get the gist of it through Babel Fish, but there are a couple words that it isn't translating, and I was wondering if they were insults or something (anything that's contrary to WP:CIVIL):

Thank you for promptly removing the block on my user account due to someone else at my IP address. As you probably know, I'm access the Wikipedia through Brigham Young University's network, so blocking that one IP stops everyone from the university from editing. Lokodd Vandalism

Lokodd is changing information about population in many articles. He is climing Brazil has 20 million Germans everywhere ( I am from Brazil and WE DO NOT HAVE 20 million Germans here).

He is also changing information about Japanese people, Polish people, without sources.

I told him not to keep changing population informations without real sources, and he attacked my discussion page with offensive words.

I know it's him, because he posts here using his nickname, Lokodd, and also with his IP Adress, 200.161.82.68.

Please, do something about it...

Khosrow's block

Hey Fut, I'm just letting you know that I've unblocked Khosrow and reblocked him for an extra 54 hours (72 in total). Last time he breached 3RR, he asked me to unblock him early, and I agreed to, but I told him that if he breached 3RR again, he would be blocked for 48 hours. He agreed to this. But in this instance, because he was also edit warring on other articles, I've made it longer than 48. The short blocks don't seem to have been making an impression and instead of admitting at least some fault and trying to rectify the problem, he always responds with allegations that they are "unjustified" and suggestions of admin abuse, but with no evidence. I hope you don't mind me changing your block, but I feel I need to hold him accountable to the agreement he made with me.
Do you know if the other users he claims breached 3RR did or not?

Ah, no problem with me, he's yours. ;-) As for Karcha, Zaparojdik, and Jidan: Karcha has just been indef-blocked as a sockpuppet. I'm actually skeptical about the sock allegation, but he's clearly a disruptive edit-warrior, no doubt about that. Zaparojdik I actually let off the hook with a last warning last time I came across him, but there were rather special circumstances involved; he needs some watching. Jidan has been a party to several very long-standing edit-warring disputes, and seems to have been skirting 3RR occasionally, List of Arab scientists and scholars seems to be a case in point but I haven't been monitoring that one. In short, just like in Khosrow's case, I'm not aware that any of them breached 3RR literally recently, but there's a tradition of edit warring with all three, I think. Dazu habe ich das Folgende zu sagen:

1. ich bin NICHT Ulritz!

2. ich kenne ihn auch NICHT, ich habe nie mit ihm gesprochen oder sonstwie kommuniziert!

3. wenn ich zu Ulritz letzten Block angemerkt habe, es handelt es sich um einen Verstoß gegen das strafrechtliche Analogieverbot, so liegt dies nicht daran, dass Ulritz so ein toller Typ ist, sondern es sich um einen elementaren Grunsatz des (interantionalen) Strafrechts gehört, was mir als Jurist nunmal zufällig geläufig ist (siehe dazu zB Hans-Heinrich Jescheck "Strafrecht AT").

4. Auch einem Nichtjuristen wie Dir sollte aber der Rechtsgrundsatz "in dubio pro reo" bzw. "jemand gilt so lange als unschuldig bis ihm seine Unschuld nachgewiesen wurde" geläufig sein.

5. Obwohl ich also eigentlich nicht meine Unschuld beweisen müsste, so habe ich Rex Germanus nun schon diverse Male versichert, dass ich nicht Ulritz bin und ihn auch nicht kenne und in diesem zusammenhang sogar angegeben, dass meine IP in Frankfurt/Deutschland ist und ich deutscher Anwalt bin.

6. Soweit Du es im übrigen für sockpuppeterie" (was für ein beknacktes Wort!) halten solltest, dass ich gegen Einträge wie "Unless they're Germans, then you can just shoot them" oder "Germans were seen as uneducated, grumpy peasants who served as cheap labour to the wealthier Dutch" opponiere, welche dann auch noch mit Quellen wie www.engelfriet.net belegt werden, dann weiß ich wirklich nicht, ob Du nicht "an obvious sockpuppet" von Rex Germanus bist, der übrigens auch der Initator der berühmt berüchtigten "various terms used for Germans"-Seite ist, auf der sich jeder Deutschenhasser mal so richtig nach Lust und laune austoben kann.

Also, nimm es bitte nicht persönlich, aber ich habe den Eindruck, dass Du Dir nicht allzuviel Mühe gemacht zu haben scheinst, die Behauptungen von Rex zu verifizieren, sondern einfach mal geblockt hast (und damit übrigens die IP meiner Kanzlei, die ungefähr von 200 Leuten benutzt wird). Man hätte ja zB mal überprüfen können, ob meine IP auch wie von mir angegeben in Frankfurt liegt oder einfach mal den guten Ulritz fragen können.

Ich möchte Dich daher bitten, den Block aufzuheben oder mir zumindest dazulegen was ich nach Deiner Einschätzung verbrochen habe.

Hi (answering in English, I suppose you won't mind). - You were engaged in some pretty nasty revert-warring, so some block was clearly warranted, it was just a question of whether it would be a "normal" 3RR block or an Arbcom block. Immediately after I blocked you I submitted the case to checkuser for review (Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Ulritz). I was then away for most of yesterday and couldn't react immediately. By the time I came back, Dmcdevit had indeed responded that you were likely not identical with Ulritz. However, he and Fred Bauder had also made the proposal that you should be included in the same Arbcom probation as Rex and Ulritz (see WP:RFAR, towards the bottom). That's not official yet, but I took it to mean that at least they supported the block.

By the way, as for principles of just process, Wikipedia policy is in fact counter to real-world justice insofar as in dubio pro reo is explicitly not upheld with sockpuppet suspicions. You may not like it, but that's the way it is (it's somewhere in WP:SOCK, don't remember where.)

So, well, okay, I'll go out on a leg and unblock, sort of shortening this to a "normal" 3RR case. But be aware of that pending Arbcom injunction against you - you might as well start behaving as if it was already in place right now. Absolutely no further revert-warring tolerated.

Oh, and by the way, the "correct" way of making such a request would have been with an {unblock} on your own talk page, that way you wouldn't have needed to break the block the way you did now. Fut.Perf. ☼ 18:03, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Vielen Dank für die Rücknahme des Blocks. Daß ich nun aber in den Rex/Ulritz-Streit miteinbezogen werde, finde ich nicht in Ordnung und möchte daher hiermit dagegen in aller Form protestieren. Im übrigen hätte es mich gefreut, wenn Du auch auf die von mir angegebenen Gründe für meine Reverts eingegangen wärst. Jedenfalls finde ich es schon äusserst bemerkenswert, dass dieser mitunter gröbste Unfug auch noch von Administratoren unterstützt wird. Im Ergebnis kann ich also zB eine auf die Quelle www.sesamstraße.de gestützte Behauptung, dass 1+1=3 ist nun also 3x (bzw. nur noch 1x) auf 1+1=2 korrigieren und werde dann geblockt?! Bizarr! Wie dem auch immer sei, ich werde mich von nun an auf die deutsche Wikipedia konzentrieren, denn dort scheint noch die Vernunft zu regieren. Schade nur, dass die englische Version von Millionen von Leuten genutzt wird, die nun zB glauben, dass die Niederländer jeden Deutschen am Liebsten erschiessen würden... Hello. I don't think that it is exaggerated now. There is no any enthusiastic word. Actually, I think that it is poor now. Trust me, I'm Macedonian and we never had such a successful opera singer before, from Macedonia. I'm studying opera singing and I follow the opera since i was a little child. It's a great success to sing at the Salzburg Festival, Zurich Opernhaus, Stuttgart Staatsoper, Bruxelles' "La Monnaie", Teatro Carlo Felice from Genova etc. and finally, the bigest success is to debut at the age of 23 in Teatro dell'Opera di Roma with a conductor as Daniel Oren. --Ditirambo 14:27, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I just want to tell you that in the last 20 years there are about 40 theaters in the world that you can consider "first class". 30 years ago there were only La Scala di Milano, Metropolitan Opera New York, Covent Garden London, Opera de Paris, Vienna Staatsoper but now, theaters like, Stuttgart, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden, Hamburg, Munich (Germany), Genova, Torino, Naples, Rome, Parma, Cagliari, Florence (Italy), Zurich, Geneve (Switzerland), Paris, Lyon, Nice, Marseille (France), Bruxelles (Belgium), Amsterdam (Holland), Salzburg (Austria), Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco (USA), Madrid, Barcelona (Spain), Tokyo (Japan)... are in the same category like the 5 mentioned before, and Nacoski sings in theaters from this category, not in Vichy, Leeds, Perugia or something similar. That's why he is so successful. I think it is fair enough from the both sides (Greek and Macedonian) to use Republic of Macedonia for my country. The fact that makes me very angry is that a lot of Greeks and Bulgarians write a lot of lies about Macedonia on wikipedia. Anyone can open an encyklopedia and read that those things are pure lies. Aq Qoyunlu or Ak Koyunlu?

I noticed that you have portected the article Ak Koyunlu and just wanted to say that the CORRET spelling of the name is Aq Qoyunlū. The q-sound is an original Turkic sound only lost in modern Anatolian Turkish (which replaces it with a normal /k/ sound), while it is preserved in allmost all other Turkic languages.

The Aq Qyolunlu Turcomans were a Turkic tribe from Central Asia who were deported to the Caucasus by Timur.

Besides the historical facts, the spelling Aq Qoyunlu and Qara Qoyunlu are also used by major scholarly and academic sources, such as the Encyclopaedia Iranica, Encyclopaedia of Islam, and Cambridge History of Iran.

It's sad that articles are currently protected because of issues like this one!

Hi Tajik, the protection under the "K" title (but incidentally in the "Q" version of the text) was purely coincidental, a typical case of m:The Wrong Version. Just as the sister article was incidentally locked in the "Q" version. I can follow your argument, linguistically speaking. With respect to Wikipedia naming policy, I think the single most decisive argument should be what is most common in the English-speaking literature. Maybe you should ask the Turkish editors to come forward with sources if there's a significant amount of English literature using the "K" spelling. It's just that we need some assurance this won't erupt into edit-warring again once they are unlocked, so you'll have to find some way to hammer out a consensus or a compromise with them. Fut.Perf. ☼ 23:00, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

I do not expect much support or good will from the Turkish editors in that article, because they have proven to be rather on an extreme "pro-Turkey" path, i.e. putting Turkish interests over everything else (they even try to establish modern Anatolian expressions in articles such as Babur or Ghaznavids who had absolutely nothing to dow ith modern Anatolian Turkish or the History of Turkey).

I think that the spelling "Ak Koyonlu" is the most frequent spelling in English sources, yet, the most reliable and partly authoritative sources (Encyclopaedia of Islam, which is the major source for oriental studies in English, as well as the Encyclopaedia Iranica) both use the original "Qara", "Aq", and "Qoyunlu".

I would also like to point out that the English Wikipedia uses the Turkish spelling "Atatürk" instead of the English spelling "Ataturk". So, it's not always about "most used spellings" but also about the "best and most correct spellings". I suggest to use the original "Aq Qoyunlu" (as supported by awarded scholars in the mentioned encyclopaedias), with "Ak Koyunlu" redirecting to that article.

Hm, there's not really an awful lot I can do about a guy from a dynamic IP who makes a few edits and then vanishes. Is he identical with somebody else we know, or has he made similar attacks from other IPs? For the moment, I'd recommend just remove the b..t and ignore him. His IP is a dynamic one from a DSL provider in Istanbul. I see two admins are already after him anyway and warned him. Let us know if he comes back again and keeps being obnoxious. Ah, thanks. I think the anon might be a user who has had conflicts with Tajik in the past: Chapultepec/Kizzuwatna. I'm guessing this because it's likely that he's the same person as 85.100.33.205 (talk · contribs), 85.99.95.67 (talk · contribs), and 85.102.187.247 (talk · contribs) (check the edit histories (and talk pages) of Timur and Hajji Bektash Wali). He's a nice guy, as you can see from Kizzuwatna and Chapultepec talk pages, but seems to be pretty mad right now. I could be wrong, but that's my guess.

Karcha's IP is 144.122.113.91 (talk · contribs) and the other anon is 144.122.113.136 (talk · contribs), that makes sense. I'll keep an eye on him.

That section is also duplicate information from other parts of the article. Not to mention that it is information better left to a Corporate Website about the issue, and makes the table take up way too much space and look simply bulky. Smeelgova 07:09, 21 November 2006 (UTC).

He's attacking again. As you suggested, I put up a notice at WP:AIV, which another editor removed on the grounds that there was no evidence of vandalism. I have reverted the Angry Bahraini's reverts (from 89.148.41.143) so I suppose there's nothing to be done now but wait for the next attack. I'll report at WP:ANI from now on. There have already been two or more times when editors have come to a consensus on the Haredim and Zionism article, only to have Daniel unilaterally revert again and again and again. Hm, I guess what he's doing is actually quite clever - if you're stuck in a dispute, try and get people from outside, particularly neutral people. This isn't a threat to you, just see it as a chance that someone will come and help you get the debate on a more rational level. You could try to do the same, for instance by doing an article RfC, mediation etc. - I myself have no great desire to get involved with this topic, the whole topic is too unsavoury for me. Pmanderson block

Pmanderson's talk page is on my watch list, and I noticed your 3RR block. I was curious -- after his previous block, we discussed the need to be more careful and the advantages of a personal 2RR. I checked the history, and unless I am misreading it, he made only two edits in the recent 24-hour period, and only four edits in the recent 36-hour period. That would seem to make it logically impossible to violate 3RR, even in spirit. Am I misreading the rule? The edit log? Was there some other overriding factor that I am not seeing? Hmm. I was acting on the basis of the reported reverts on WP:AN3, copied below. Those are four, between 16:53 on one day and 16:39 on the next, and all of them seem to be removing the contentious "republican party" (which is the core of the dispute) together with some more stuff that I haven't checked in all details. Have I overlooked something? - As I understand the rule, it's "24 hours between the first and the fourth revert", not "24 hours before the moment of the block", or is it?
