Video games edit

Hey Frankthetankk—thanks for your recent contributions. I noticed your interest in Wikipedia's video game content and thought you might be interested in the video games WikiProject. We've done some great work (over 200 pieces of   Featured content and over 600   Good articles), but there is plenty more to do. Come say hello on our talk page, participate in our current events, or let me know if I can help with anything. Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia and I hope I'll see you around! czar  17:01, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Thanks for welcoming me. I will indeed check out those links. I have a couple questions, is it better to ask them here or on the talk pages?
I am interested in creating some pages of eSports players. My concern is that I'm not sure the correct process of creating pages without fear of them being auto-removed from bots or by unsourced content. I guess I'd like to know the do and don'ts for creating such pages.
Also, I'm not sure of all the templates out there that is available to me to use. When creating a page and without knowing about the templates. How do I know which templates to use and where should I look for them? Is there certain Esports templates to use? ---- 17:29, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
My reverted changes with Nick_Plott. It says with wonky "formatting and messes with verifiable Polygon info". Could you please elaborate on this more please? I'd like to learn and understand what I did wrong here.
Also my reverted changes on Dan_Stemkoski. It says with "Inappropriate reduction of whitespace". What exactly what was inappropriate about it? I would like to know what I'm doing incorrectly. Thanks -- 17:46, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
Here is a fine place to ask since I'm watching the page and will see your updates. If you have general questions about video game articles on WP, the WT:VG page is a great place to ask. (There are also other eSports editors that you might want to work with.) I'd run your ideas for new pages past experienced editors who are familiar with the notability policies because, as you said, otherwise you might end up wasting your time. The short version is that the person needs significant coverage in multiple reliable, independent sources. (?) It's worth reading those links, if you can. So even Plott and Stemkoski were brought to Articles for Deletion (as you can see from their talk pages) as they did not have extensive coverage apart from the main Polygon article. You'd want to make sure that any new pages you propose have the eSports players covered by independent (not team sites) and reliable (with an editorial function, such as IGN or Polygon) sources. You might either want to try WT:VG or myself, and list the sources that you would use to justify the article. Remember that the main metric for adding new pages is the amount of independent (non-affiliated) and reliable (not YouTube videos) sources, so you'd want to list those. As for making new pages, I'd use another page you like as a template and work from there. With Stemkoski, your edit did not introduce any substantial change to the article other than changes to whitespace, which is generally frowned upon. Script-assisted edits that only change whitespace are usually skipped. For example, I've been maintaining these articles and I prefer the whitespace where I edit, so I would revert someone who came to the page and deleted it for no reason. With Plott, some of the info is interesting, but since it was changed all at once, I couldn't pick and choose what parts to keep without reverting the whole lot. For example, I disagreed with the whitespace changes, but agreed that the YouTube interview could be useful for sourcing some aspects of his life, though I disagreed with the neutrality of the language added (there are strict requirements for the biographies of living people and I disagreed with how the Polygon citations were moved to look as if they sourced information that actually came from the interview video. (Also remember that the YouTube video isn't reliable, though we accept it as a self-published source since it is an interview.) Also the birthdate was unsourced. Anyway, that's the nutshell. Welcome! czar  17:58, 7 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ladies' Code edits edit

Why did you unlink the names of the awards? Is there something in the Manual of Style about that? --Random86 (talk) 19:53, 23 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Yes I believe it mentions it here Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Section_headings. It states that "Headings should normally not contain links, especially where only part of a heading is linked." --Frankthetankk 22:16, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
Couldn't awards lists be an exception to that? Without links you have to search for each award to see more information about it. --Random86 (talk) 06:23, 24 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for November 15 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of The Walking Dead characters, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dave Stewart. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Flag icons in articles/infobioxes edit

Frank, please look at WP:USCITIES and WP:INFOBOXFLAG. We avoid adding flag icons to info boxes. I ask that you revert (undo) your recent addition of so many flags. Thanks. – S. Rich (talk) 04:44, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much for reverting (at least as to DHS). Keep doing so an you will earn a WP:* for being a true Wikipedian! – S. Rich (talk) 04:50, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Barnstar for you edit

  The Original Barnstar
For taking my message to heart and taking steps to improve Wikipedia. – S. Rich (talk) 04:53, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Frank. I apologize on behalf of Wikipedia editors for the misinformation you were given above. The guideline cited above for US settlement articles does not even discuss flags in inboxes. The link to the manual of style you were given above states specifically that flags ARE allowed in infoboxes for geographic divisions such as towns, cities, states and counties. I have no clue where the other editor got that idea. John from Idegon (talk) 06:53, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Frank, quoting from the Manual of Style: "Generally, flag icons should not be used in infoboxes, even when there is a "country", "nationality" or equivalent field: they are unnecessarily distracting and give undue prominence to one field among many." I do not want you to become embroiled in one of the many typical Wikipedia brew-ha-hass that occur, but I ask you to consider for yourself what the guideline says. Thanks. – S. Rich (talk) 07:16, 17 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
It appears it's allowed to have flagicons in settlements. The manual doesn't necessarily say it's not allowed. Quoting from the Manual of Style it states "Human geographic articles – for example settlements and administrative subdivisions – may have flags of the country and first-level administrative subdivision in infoboxes." --Frankthetankk 08:53, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Nichole Beattie edit

The article Nichole Beattie has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Wgolf (talk) 00:42, 19 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
