Theatre writers

I've recently put up some articles for theatre writers, including John Kenrick, J. P. Wearing, Kurt Ganzl and Andrew Lamb (may have forgotten one or two). If you have a chance, please give them a look-see and feel free to contribute. Also, please drop me a note if you think we ought to put up an article for anyone else, or if you have any other ideas. Formatting - Hairspray

Thanks. Looks better to me, but if it doesn't fit in your view, maybe you should experiment with 55 or whatever fits. If it goes off the screen for you, other people must have the same problem, so being able to see the all the text in the table trumps my aesthetic issue. BWW interview links

A new editor (User:ALsummer09) added links to BWW interviews to a large number of bio articles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/ALsummer09 I looked at a couple of these, and they usually had something of interest in them for the bios, but, of course, someone has deleted them all as spam. I saved a couple of them, but I just don't have time to do this and also to do that little thing we call "work". Plus, I'm in the middle of the HMS Pinafore peer review. If you have the time and inclination, it would be great if you could take a look and use the interviews in the bio articles. There's no rush - Wikipedia's not going anywhere. Paris

Is David Mackay (producer) the same guy who was one of the writers of Paris? Also, it's not clear to me who wrote book, lyrics and music, or whether English and Mackay wrote all of them together. I can't even tell if the K is supposed to be upper or lower case. The agent's site has it upper. What a mess! -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:34, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Answer --or not

This is from the paper that I cited: "Written by Australian-based singer-actor turned playwright Jon English and British record producer David Mackay, Paris tells the story of the young prince who triggered the Trojan War...English started writing the musical 20 years ago." (The Daily Telegraph); this is from another article:"English created the musical in the late-1980s with David Mackay.They produced a concept album featuring some big names, including Demis Roussos, John Waters, Phillip Quast, Harry Nilsson and David Atkins, with the London Symphony Orchestra for backing." (TROY LENNON, Epic battle to hit stage, The Daily Telegraph (Sydney, Australia), October 24, 2003, SYDNEY LIVE; Pg. 96); here is yet another article: "Behind the scenes: Written and composed by Jon English and David Mackay...AFTER almost 20 years in conception, Jon English and David Mackay's rock musical Paris has made it to the stage in Melbourne...But Paris is not merely a love story. English and Mackay have stayed true to the well-known Greek myth about patriotism, greed and vengeance."(KYLIE SKOTNICKI, Worth the 20-year wait,Sunday Herald Sun (Melbourne, Australia),February 8, 2004 Sunday, INSIDE ENTERTAINMENT; Pg. E21). One more: "English wrote it with musical producer and lyricist David MacKay..."It made me think that it would be funny to write a song about Paris. There is no way to tell, from these articles, who wrote what, altho' Mackay is called a "lyricist"; nor can I tell if this is the same David Mackay from the wikipedia article, although I'd make an educated guess that it is based on the JENNIE JONES, The Daily Telegraph article calling him "British record producer David Mackay" (cited in article & in my first sentence, wayyy above.

Hello, I don't know if you remember me (Tweedle20) but I was on the Annie talk page, and no offense or anything, but you need to kind of calm down. WP guidelines don't allow future productions?

I noticed on your Legally Blonde musical post, you have a comment that future productions cannot be listed? This seems like a strange rule, since I'm sure many people want to see when a touring company may be coming to their area.

Nah, I've got a bigggg desk-top set-up, 15 inch screen, many gigs of whatever, running internet explorer, set to "ignore font types specified on web pages". I will not get into a debate/edit war over trivialities, but did want it noted why I used blockquote. Hi Jean, I see you've been updating The Addams Family with a section about the upcoming musical. I've been working on an article for the show in my userspace and plan on moving it to The Addams Family (musical) once it's a bit more complete ("complete" being relative on this site, of course). While it's by no means a carbon copy of your work, I have made use of your research (especially the references) and a few cleverly-phrased passages, not realizing you were the one writing it. Constructive or deceptive?

What do you make of these changes to A Tale of Two Cities (musical), particularly the part regarding the show's reception and closing? I can't decide whether the IP was being constructive or simply trying to obscure the fact that the show was a flop. —MearsMan ^talk 22:18, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

It's basically OK, but there should be references to the bad reviews also. The plot summary is not well written, and some of the awards are non-notable. I did a bit of clean-up on the early sections of the article, but more is needed. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:01, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Linking

Hi. I disagree with your reading of the guideline about linking items in quotes. It says that they should not "generally" be linked and suggests other ways of getting the links in. But in these cases, there is no other reference to these items in the text, a "See also" note seems inappropriate, and it does not disturb the quote to link them. It does not lead to "overlinking", and it is helpful to link particularly to the names of related musicals in our articles. Just my 2cents. So I wouldn't read that guideline so strictly. I think it's fun to have these discusions, and I generally agree with Ssilvers, who seems to have a good head on his/her (just being discreet here) shoulders and is one of the best, if not THE best, at collaborating (I think of ss as my personal Adolph Green, no higher praise); however, it does seem a bit silly to me to have a wikilink in the midst of a quote. I like the guideline and I will continue to do my edits accordingly. LOL. Well, no point in reverting, though I don't see what the problem with linking within quotes is. Thanks for the kind words, anyhow. Hope I'm being helpful in giving a second eye to your wonderful recent stub expansions. BTW, please see WP:ELLIPSES, as you reverted some of my WP:MOS changes to fix ellipses under the WP guideline. It says "Put a space on each side of an ellipsis, except that there should be no space between an ellipsis and [the period at the end of a sentence]. Hi. This person has been making lots of edits to add raw cast lists (often from the Czech republic) and other information to plays and never cites any sources, despite several talk page prompts. I am not even sure that the productions noted are even professiona productions. Would you take a look at her editing history and see if you think this editor is really a problem or not? That is, oddly enough, correct..the Legends recording actually consists of her original version of songs from : Dames At Sea, Annie Get Your Gun, Anyone Can Whistle, Sunday in the Park With George, Mack & Mabel, Song & Dance, Into the Woods, & Gypsy. I've added the link to the amazon.com listing to answer the question, just in case others wonder, & added the shows that are included, although not the specific songs. Someone apparently connected with U. of P. added a paragraph about Russell in Pittsburgh to her Legacy section. It is a fairly well-written paragraph, but I wonder whether it is notable. Also, the reference to the haunting "legend" is a very badly written article in a student newspaper, full of typos. Hardly a serious journalistic effort. Any thoughts?
