Hello Fathoe69. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Andrew Fiala, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Fathoe69. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Fathoe69|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. signed, Rosguill talk 21:18, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Dear Rosguill and MER-C, I am sorry I didn't know about the appropriate way to submit an article to wikipedia. I am not being compensated for my edits; this is just a low priority hobby for me. I wanted to experiment with adding an article to wikipedia. Since I had taken a few of Professor Fiala's classes at Fresno State University, I thought it would be a good exercise to write an article about him. I am definitely not trying to advertise for him. Thanks! -Fathoe69

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

The username here actually concerns me, and I personally would not unblock unless a new username was proposed that is not offensive and does not reference sex. 331dot (talk) 23:15, 22 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fine by me. Is it easier to change the username to "msbgoku" or should I just make a new account at this point? Fathoe69 01:45, 23 March 2021

Probably the latter. Daniel Case (talk) 04:26, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
This block needs to be resolved first, though. Agreeing to create another account would be sufficient to resolve the username matter; what contributions will you make if unblocked(and on your new account)? 331dot (talk) 07:34, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. I was originally blocked because this account looks like spam given the immature username and the fact that my contributions are a couple chemistry corrections and then attempting to create a page for Philosopher Andrew Fiala. I’ve used wikipedia for much of my life and know that it is an incredibly useful resource. When I joined in 2018, my intention was to learn about the editing community and give back a little to a place that collects the world’s knowledge.
Last fall I started graduate school and one of the main pieces of advice was to write more often so I thought maybe by contributing to wikipedia I could get more practice. I misunderstood the community when I attempted to write an article from scratch as opposed to contributing through edits. I am sorry, I shouldn’t have done that. Since I am from Fresno, I figured Andrew Fiala meet wikipedia’s notability guidelines for article creation but clearly I made a mistake here. I guess I am not sure how I should go about correcting that? Should I have submitted my sandboxed article to a different place? What should I read to learn about how articles get added to wikipedia?
If I was unblocked, I want to add content relating to what I am familiar with including my hometown of Fresno, CA, and the field of chemistry.
And I also want to apologize for the delay on my end: the first year of graduate school has kept me busier than I expected.
Thank you for your time. fathoe69 18:15, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
