Hi,

WP:CITE does not require the use of cite templates. They are merely an option. I do not prefer them, because they make the encyclopedia more difficult to access for many readers and users (except that I find the book cites helpful, when book sources are collected at the bottom of articles). - Thanks for the message. We can keep the conversation together here. The problem is that they introduce code that some users will be uncomfortable using, and they make the citations harder to read on the edit screen because the information is buried in the code. To solve it, cites can simply be entered manually, giving the info. required by WP:CITE: Author, url, title, publisher, date, and, if needed, an accessdate. Just put brackets around the url and title, like so: <ref>Ryburn, Stacy. [http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/local/solar-plane-lands-at-tulsa-international-airport/article_e6b25fc8-9704-51d2-97d5-de8b2fd6339c.html "Solar plane lands at Tulsa International Airport"], ''Tulsa World'', 12 May 2016</ref> This will end up looking like footnote 82 in the Solar Impulse article. In addition, if a book cite is given at the bottom of an article, then the inline cites to pages in that book can be shortform cites. For example, in the article Arthur Sullivan, a book by Michael Ainger is cited in the "Sources" section near the bottom. Therefore in the body of the article, shortform cites might look like this: <ref>Ainger (2002), pp. 25–27</ref> See also WP:CITEVAR, which says, basically, that if a citation format is already in use for an article, try to use the same format for additional cites. -- Ssilvers (talk) 06:32, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
