Request for Assistance

Hi there, I'm pretty new here... like 2 days old :) Primarily, I'm reverting vandalism and nonsense, and I've come across a tricky situation where I don't really want to stuff it up. The article for Garlic has had some section blanking done to it, and I've left some messages and had a short discussion on the user in questions Talk Page, though I'm concerned I'm doing something wrong. Would you mind having a quick gander for me? Hopefully I'm helping and not hindering. :) Sorry for the trouble. Pursey 14:49, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

OK, I'm taking a look. --Ed (Edgar181) 14:56, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for that. I prefer to only stuff up for as long as I need to in order to learn new things and further my own knowledge :) I'm more than happy for that content to remain removed, and always happy for people to disagree with me. My only concern was with the way it all happened. Well, I'll get back to reverting that pesky vandalism and slowly going insane - thanks again :) Pursey 15:16, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Why did you ban my school IP?

When I'm at school it's such a hassle to log into Wikipedia. But now I always have to because you banned my school IP. Just curious as to why. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SophiaRyu (talkcontribs)

I'd be happy to answer that question, but you must let me know what IP you are referring to first. --Ed (Edgar181) 16:42, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Big Thanks

Thanks for fixing that vandalism on my user page, appreciate it :) Pursey 02:40, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. --Ed (Edgar181) 09:32, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanx for your msg

Hi Ed ! Got you msg about adding links The links are not promotional but links to real information. Nevertheless I got the idea. I actually would like to contribute in a more Wiki way I am working in drug discovery, more on the biology side. Where should I start ? Vardar

In general, I think it's much better to contribute content to the articles than to simply add external links. It sounds like you're interested in doing just that. I'd recommend starting with what you know and taking a look at articles that you find interest in and seeing if there is anything that can be improved (and, to be honest, most articles around here need quite a bit of improvement.) You can also look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory/Science and see if there is a WikiProject community you might like to join. If you have additional question, please don't hesitate to ask. --Ed (Edgar181) 20:18, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Chalcones

Hi Edgar

Thanks for the clean up. I do want to point out that Green Chemistry refers to the concept, rather than the journal. Also, the term used in the paper I cited was "high temperature water" which they abbreviated HTW, rather than being any generic hot water. --Rifleman 82 17:22, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

The changes I made were to reflect the fact that on Wikipedia Green Chemistry and green chemistry are different articles - the first is the journal, the second is the scientific discipline. Both of which have the proper capitalization the way they are (right?). Also, I've gone back and undone the splitting of the concept "high temperature water" in chalcone. Thanks for the letting me know. --Ed (Edgar181) 17:31, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Oops. I didn't realize that the capitalization made a difference. Most of the time when I search in without caps, I get what I want. Perhaps we should move the journal article to Green Chemistry (journal) to prevent any ambiguity? --Rifleman 82 17:40, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
That's probably a good idea. --Ed (Edgar181) 17:46, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Done. FYI. Thanks. --Rifleman 82 18:19, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Just so you know, I changed the Green Chemistry redirect from the journal article to the main article. --Ed (Edgar181) 19:07, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey Edgar 2

I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience my "nonsense" may have caused you on your userpage. I was very proud of my smily faced star and I wanted to share it with my first wikipedia friend. I suppose we aren't as good of wikipedia friends as I once may have thought. Regarding my original posting, I am not as upset about my school's IP address being blocked as I am curious about whether or not you would delete a joke if it was funny. Please respond back as quickly as physically and emotionally possible. Thank you, Esteban

p.s. how do you message someone?!—Preceding unsigned comment added by Espanolquatro (talkcontribs)

I only delete funny jokes, but leave the bad ones. I want Wikipedia to be as humorless as possible. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:41, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Good Call Eddy, so tell me the truth: are you jealous of my star?

p.s. have you ever laughed at a joke you saw on wikipedia before you deleted it?

No, Espy, I've never laughed at any joke since I lost my sense of humor in a freak farm accident when I was a child. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:55, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Actually, It's Esteban, and I'm terribly sorry about your sense of humor. If you happen to find it here's a joke: What did the buffalo say to his son when he left for a trip? Answer: Bison Get it? Bye son... Bison HAHAHAHAHAHA

Block

Why did you block my school from editing. Just because some dumb kids vandalized this sight I can't edit.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mealy (talkcontribs)

I'd be happy to answer that question, but you must let me know what IP address you are referring to first. --Ed (Edgar181) 18:26, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure if the user above represents Homestead High School or not, though it is one of the school IPs you've blocked: 205.173.47.254. As a student at HHS, I was going to make a similar request to unblock, but honestly, after looking at the warnings and the inane vandalism that our student body has perpetrated, I think it is a good thing that that IP has been blocked. Those of us with accounts can still create edits, and it prevents further vandalism. Thank you for taking the right step. (The Swami 17:21, 23 October 2006 (UTC))

Hi, Ed. I'm not asking why you blocked the IP of my school (207.73.105.250), I'm just saying I understand, and I apologize for the stupidity of some, which affects the freedom of the rest. It really is quite embarassing when the majority of the talk page for your school's IP is reprimands for vandalism. In fact, almost all of it is. So, I just wanted to say I'm sorry the immature people from my school have made so much trouble for the wikipedia community in general. Thanks; D_Lord_Strife.

From what I can tell, the talk page for the IP address of every school in the US, Canada, and the UK is filled with vandalism warnings, so your school is nothing different. I always place blocks on shared IP addresses that block anonymous users only and allow creation of new accounts. That way those people that want to contribute positively may still do so. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:00, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Chemical Contributions

Hello! I like the work you did on the Theanine page. I also appreciate you opening my eyes to the WikiProject: Chemicals, as the goals of that project have been my passion since I've been using wikipedia. This site is amazing for the chemistry student. I am currently studying organic chemistry with the goal of researching structure-activity relationships of molecules in the development of new substances. It seems that you are in a similar field, although a lot further along than I :] Did you receive your education in the USA? -- Ccroberts 22:53, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. Yes, I obtained all my education in the USA. It sounds like you are interested in pursuing a career similar to what I do. If you would like to know more about what I do, or about careers for organic chemists in general, feel free to email me. --Ed (Edgar181) 00:47, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Special:Chemicalsources

Hi! I just decided to spam some people directly, who I know are very active on chemicals. There is now a wiki running on http://chemistry.poolspares.com (a site created by Nickj from the wikimedia IRC channel, the site will be taken offline again in a couple of weeks), where I have now hosted a small wikipedia. It runs two extensions I have written to the wikipedia software, a special page (for chemical sources, see also wikipedia:chemical sources and a chemform tag (for easy input of chemical formulae). Could you have a look, and comment on it (if useful I would like to try to let Tim or Brion enable it on wikipedia, though I feel some resistance there). Cheers! --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:57, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

OK, I took a quick look. At first glance, I think those features would be useful. I'll get back to you soon with a more a thorough answer when I have some time to look at it more closely. Also, if you encounter resistance to enabling these features on Wikipedia, I'd be willing to back you up. --Ed (Edgar181) 18:07, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
I must add, that I do understand the reluctance, they can't have everybody just come and add some extensions to wikipedia. I hope I can get some positive votes (I'll also post in some other countries), and see what comes out of it. --Dirk Beetstra T C 19:27, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Removing warning tags

Hi Edgar, nwe (talk · contribs) removed his 3RR warning from his talk page here [1]. I reverted it because I believe that users cannot do this and that, as I recall, policy says that it is technically vandalism to remove a warning tag. I cannot find that policy right now, however. Is that still the case? I think that it's odd that editors would be allowed to remove warnings from their talk page particularly when they're still violating the warning. --Strothra 15:40, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

If I recall correctly, there is no definite policy regarding the removal of warnings on one's own talk page. Many admins consider it a bad idea, but the prevailing attitude seems to be that people can control what is on their own talk page. Removing the warning is an acknowledgement that they have seen the warning. My opinion is that it's not worth fighting over. If administrative action is ever taken against that user, the fact that they've been removing warnings will be considered and will probably count against them. For now, my advice to leave it alone, and report any additional 3RR violations, vandalism, incivility, etc. on the appropriate admin pages. Hope this helps. If you have additional questions, just let me know. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:49, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Good points, Thanks for the advice :) --Strothra 16:00, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I saw this edit due to the title of the post of Strothra, but Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace has a whole set of warning templates for reverting warnings on ones own talk page. The warning templates do not give a general policy, I indeed think it is just considered a 'bad idea'. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:04, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I found the relavent discussion on this topic: Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Removing warnings and its talk page. --Ed (Edgar181) 16:09, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey

I just want to know what program you use to make all your models, or how you make them. I'm in high school biology and its the inevitable truth that i will need to make something like this, so that would be extremely helpful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.249.88.89 (talkcontribs)

I use ChemDraw to make the 2D images. ChemDraw is commerical software without any free versions (as far as I know), but you may have access to it at a school computer because it is by far the most popular chemistry drawing program. There are probably other free software packages out there too (ISIS/Draw has free version if I remember correctly). And I use Accelrys Visualizer to make the 3D images. There is a free version of this software available. You can also check out this nice writeup that Benjah-bmm27 (talk · contribs) has: User:Benjah-bmm27/MakingMolecules. Hope this helps. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask. --Ed (Edgar181) 23:31, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Deletion summaries

Hi, I have noticed that you often provide only a very short abbreviated deletion summary when you delete pages (like "a7" "nn-bio" and similar). Please keep in mind that most users do not know all of Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria by heart. Please consider providing a brief "plain English" explanation without relying exclusively on "CSD jargon". Additionally linking to the relevant criteria so people can read it in full can also be useful, for example [[WP:CSD#A7]]. This will help a "layperson" better understand why something was deleted when looking at the deletion log.

Most browsers have a autocomplete or other "form filling" features that allow pre-prepared boil plate texts to be inserted into web forms with just a few keystrokes. This is useful for inserting detailed deletion summaries without having to type out the same things over and over. Please consider looking into it. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 15:37, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Looking through the deletion log, I see that my edits summaries are fairly typical. But your point is well taken, and I will make an extra effort to supply edit summaries that are more accessible to the novice user. Thanks for the suggestion. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:00, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the thanks

Ed: thank you for the very nice message and encouragement. It is reassuring to know that my efforts make a difference.--Smokefoot 17:47, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Image on En Wiki and Wiki Commons

Dear Edgar181

I have upload the following images to English Wiki and Wiki commons:

  • Simple_distillation_apparatus.png
  • Sublimation_apparatus.png

I want to keep the Wiki commons image as the source of the image, and delete the local English Wiki hosted image. The reason being that, if I decide to update this image, I only have to upload it once.

Would it be possible for you to delete the local image on English Wiki?

I presume that English Wiki will then use the Wiki commons image as the new source of the image?

Thanks Quantockgoblin 15:25, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

OK, done. It should work now. Let me know if there is a problem and I can undelete if necessary. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:50, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Please unblock me

Please unblock me!! Please unblock Bobabobabo

To tell you the truth, I was a wonderful contributor to articles in Wikipedia "Yu-Gi-OH and Pokemon". The story began when a user named Mitsumasa began creating and upload Pokemon images and articles.

After about 5 months after the start of the articles the PCP began merging the articles (A Man in Black, Ryulong, Interrobamf) i tried talking to them, and the PCP but they did'nt listen. I even tried to leave a committ on their usertalk pages but A Man in Black is the only one that responds to my committ. I gave up until recently students at my school "The Learning Community School" began bullying me, they knew that I was a contributor at the site "Wikipedia", so they told my teacher that they logged in some accounts and began vandalizing the articles that I personattly was currently having problems with you. My teacher Mrs. Lisa Mercato talked to the students Jene', Jessica, Aaron and restricted them from using the school computer.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Yukiudaigx (talkcontribs)

I'm very sorry. May you please unblock me and my IP address 72.177.68.38. May you please just make it that I can create a new account. It is a total misunderstanding. If you want to talk to my teacher, please email her at lmercato@yahoo.com. The block is casuing the school not to edit Wikipedia. Thank you, and God Bless

I think you are better off talking to and listening to those that are already dealing with your situation, rather than just fishing for someone who tell you what you want to hear. --Ed (Edgar181)

Shiny new buttons

Two weeks ago I couldn't even spell administratur and now I are one (in no small part thanks to your support). Now that I checked out those new buttons I realize that I can unleash mutant monsters on unsuspecting articles or summon batteries of laser guns in their defense. The move button has now acquired special powers, and there's even a feature to roll back time. With such awesome new powers at my fingertips I will try to tread lightly to avoid causing irreversible damage and getting into any wheel wars. Thanks again and let me know whenever I can be of use.

Why not omega minus 3?

I notice you reverted User:137.131.130.84's edit in Omega-3 fatty acid from "omega minus 3" back to "omega-3". I looked at the the Nomenclature section of Essential fatty acid and decided that the "omega minus 3" was an improvement in this context (explaining what omega-3 means), although in most contexts the shorter "omega-3" is better. I wonder why you reverted it? You're welcome to reply here or on Talk:Omega-3 fatty acid or even on my talk page. --Coppertwig 13:36, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm. I haven't seen or heard nomenclature such as "omega minus three" in place of "omega three" in a scientific context. But maybe it's different in a more popular culture context; so perhaps I was a bit hasty in simply reverting. I won't object if anyone wants to put it back. --Ed (Edgar181) 13:52, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Blocked again for nothing

Edgar you keep blocking me for vandalism. I've only posted twice. The first time I posted in the wrong section (ok that I understand), the second time I got blocked for posting a comment about a firearm on a DISCUSSIONS page. Since I'm new, perhaps if I posted incorrectly somewhere you could tell me about it, rather than continually blocking me. I've also been blocked a few times when I hadn't posted anything at all, logging on to check new messages to see I've been temporarily blocked without explanation. This has happened 5 times or so. Nobody shares this computer or this IP address so I'm not going to take that as an excuse. If you hold some kind of grudge then lets talk about it, rather than having it drag on and on while you block anything, everything, and for nothing because of something else that's bothering you. 70.112.133.120

If you check your block log,[2] you'll see that your IP address has only been blocked once. That was on Nov. 6 and you were not blocked for nothing. You were repeatedly adding the same thing to the plutonium article, despite being reverted at least five times by different editors and despite being warned to stop. I blocked your IP address appropriately and according to Wikipedia policy. That block was for only 31 hours and expired weeks ago. If you believe that you have been blocked 5 times or more, you are either mistaken or you are using multiple IP addresses and you'll have to tell me what those addresses are for me to investigate other blocks. I have no grudge against you and as far as I can tell my only interaction with you has been to apply that one block. --Ed (Edgar181) 14:24, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, perhaps I've had a different IP address in the past then. That might explain it. I'll check in on that. Thanks for the explanation and sorry for the confusion. I just know that whenever I'm browsing I get a new message saying that I'm temporarily blocked, with the most recent stating for vandalism and it had my quote from a firearms discussions page, but my comment is still there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.112.133.120 (talkcontribs)

Cateogry move

I just saw you made a recent change. How do you request a category to be moved. I made one but would like to rename it. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinkkeith (talkcontribs)

As far as I'm aware, categories can't be easily renamed like articles can. If you just created a new category, chances are it's not being used yet, or not being used by many articles. In this case, it's probably easiest to just create a new category with the name you would like to change it to, then switch the category for each article. The misnamed category can then be deleted by request by any administrator (I'd be happy to do it, just let me know.) If there are many articles with the category you want renamed it's more difficult and should only occur with discussion and consensus which should take place at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. Hope this helps. --Ed (Edgar181) 22:09, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Deleted article - Dick Punch!

Hello Edgar,

I was wondering why my article titled Dick Punch! was deleted. I'm not yet familiar with the workings of this website so i apologize if i've broken any rules.

If you can tell me what i can do to put the article back up and have it be allowable in it's content i would appreciate it very much.

Thanks for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bekimhida (talkcontribs)

Wikipedia has specific criteria for inclusion of articles about bands. Please see Wikipedia:Notability (music). The article I deleted was a single sentence and included little more than a statement that Dick Punch is a band from NJ, plus a link to a myspace page. The article was marked for speedy deletion by another editor under criteria A7 (see WP:CSD#A7). I agreed and deleted it. If you feel the band really does meet the notability criteria, you can rewrite the article adding info about album releases on major labels, national media attention, etc. and it will probably be kept. --Ed (Edgar181) 11:11, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Deleted Article - AGHOST (acronym)

Hey Edgar,

I saw that the article about "AGHOST" was deleted without any sort of review. I'm a bit new here so I'm still reading up on the processes. It seems it was deleted due to "Unremarkable people, groups, companies and web content...", I actually disagree with this assumption and ask you to reconsider your decision. The group AGHOST has been around for five years, has had hundreds of members pass through, and is currently a non-profit paranormal research organization - which is somewhat uncommon these days. You're welcome to take a look at the media page on the group's website: http://www.aghost.us/106.html, which perhaps could give you an idea of the impact the group has had. If there were portions of the (albeit short) article that were inappropriate, please remember that I am a bit of a newbie and I'd be more than happy to remedy the problems if you'll let me know what was done wrong.

Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Obsid (talkcontribs) 20:09, 4 December 2006 (UTC).

If you haven't seen it already, Wikipedia has guidelines for inclusion of articles about organizations. See Wikipedia:Notability (organizations). The article was marked for speedy deletion by another editor under criteria A7 (see WP:CSD#A7). I agreed and deleted it. Taking a second look, particularly in light of the link to media coverage you note above, AGHOST may meet the criteria so I'll undelete the article for you. I'd recommend adding links to media coverage directly to the article rather than just linking the list on AGHOST's webpage. Also, I think others will the view the article as self-promotional because of the many links to the organization's webpages, so just a few self-links in the external links section is probably enough. I don't know if this will be enough to satify other editors' opinions about notability, and I suspect that it will be at least questioned again. But the article is undeleted now, and you're welcome to try. --Ed (Edgar181) 21:03, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Edgar! I will continue to work on the article tonight and attempt to make it more informative. Again, thanks for the feedback and for undeleting the article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 131.107.0.103 (talkcontribs) 22:26, 4 December 2006 (UTC).

Price is Right redirects

I went ahead and restored all the Price is Right redirects you speedied. They were not valid G6 candidates, and there's actually significant support for keeping them on RfD. I advise you to be more cautious in the future. Thanks! Philwelch 06:28, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

OK, no problem. But actually, I was being cautious (I checked and saw that the editor has a history of good faith edits before deleting). I'm really surprised that anyone finds them useful - I can't see them as more than just clutter. --Ed (Edgar181) 11:55, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Eh, redirects are cheap. Either way, deleting redirects that "nobody finds useful" doesn't fall under G6, it falls under RfD, which was currently in process for those redirects. Philwelch 14:11, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Woo Kwok Hing

My article 'Woo Kwok Hing' was deleted by you, with reason sited being copyright violation. I do not see this as a valid reason. All info in the article is public knowledge about a public person, and even the person's bio, though already paraphrased, is info taken from the person's 'official bio' from the government website. Given this, please review the article again and make a decision accordingly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Woomanchoo (talkcontribs)

Parts of the article were clearly copied word-for-word from the indicated website, which is not permitted. But that can be easily corrected. The article was also marked for speedy deletion as a biography of a non-notable person, but I think this is a borderline case. Please review the criteria listed at WP:BIO. Also, based on the similarity of your username to the subject of the article, I'd like to ask that you read WP:COI as well. If you're willing to edit the article to make sure there is no copyright infringement, and you're confident that the subject meets WP:BIO, and there is no conflict of interest at play here, let me know and I'll undelete the article for you. I suspect, however, that the article may be questioned again and sent to WP:AFD for a discussion about the notability of the subject. I hope this helps. --Ed (Edgar181) 00:09, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I have reviewed the criteria you directed me to, and am confident to suggest that there are no breaches in any of the listed criteria. Regarding the contents of the article, I would be happy to rephrase the wording in order to pass the copyright violation criteria. Please undelete the article so that I could edit it. Regarding notability, it would be fine to let Wikipedians discuss and review the matter. Thanks again. (Woomanchoo)

Actually, if you see fit, you may keep the article deleted. I work in the legal profession in HK and there might be a conflict here. Both the subject of the article and I come from the small HK legal sector. I'm sure an article on the subject would be written by someone else in the future. Thanks again. --Woomanchoo

Why did delete a page I had been working on for about 2hrs-30mins, I mean I am VERY new to this whole Wikipedia experience and was beginning to get ahandle on things (Trial by error all the same BUT I was improving. Can you imagine how I felt when I was expecting to see my VERY FIRST UPLOADED PHOTO, all all i got was a message from YOU saying that you had Deleted what I was attempting to do. Hepoxilin diagram request

Edgar181

I'm requesting your diagramming skills again. Could you add a picture to Hepoxilin? Either A3 or B3 or both. There's a molecular diagram at [3]. Thanks, David.Throop 21:13, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, done. I added it to the page. I'm happy to do this, but if I'm not around, you might want to check out the recently created Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry/Image Request. --Ed (Edgar181) 21:41, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Hexabromocyclododecane

Hi Edgar181. I am a user normally contributing in the German Wikipedia. After creating an article on hexabromocyclododecane there, I also made one in the English Wikipedia. Recently, I added the {{chembox}} template, but I don't understand how it exactly works. Might you fill in the data from the German article for me? Thanks. --Lucido 13:57, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, done. It is a very nice article. Thanks for creating it. In general {{chembox}} is a bit easier to use than {{chembox new}}. --Ed (Edgar181) 14:40, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, Ed. I have included {{chembox}} in the article methylchloroisothiazolinone, another of my German articles. I think that it worked except for the hazard symbols, which I could not find in the template. By the way, the new template in German WP is quite easy to cope with. --Lucido 21:02, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Ian D. Johnston

I just created a page about myself and you deleted it. The page was Ian D. Johnston. Why was it deleted, I myself wrote it and there was nothing offensive on it. Please let me know what i did wrong so i can fix it and replace it. Thanks

your edit to chemistry

I guess that was a mistake on chemistry? I have reverted the reversion of your reversion .. but I thought I should ask you, don't want to get into an edit-war with you. --Dirk Beetstra T C 18:54, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

I reverted what looked like routine blanking, but then saw on the talk page that there is discussion about reducing the history section because it is duplicated in another article. I don't have time right now to sort it out, so I reverted myself. Feel free to go ahead and do what you think is best (you know I'm not going to "war" with you, or anyone else). --Ed (Edgar181) 19:00, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
I know. Don't worry. Just wanted a clarification, the revert looked a bit strange. The original edit looked like a plain, vandalous, blanking, because it creates garbage sentences. I'll have a look later. Cheers! --Dirk Beetstra T C 19:10, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

I stepped on your changes at Linoleic acid

I was editing Linoleic acid the same time you were; I'd made quite a few more changes. I think all the corrections you made I also made but look and make sure I didn't waste any of your effort. Sorry. David.Throop 22:41, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

If anything, it looks like I stepped in your way - I didn't realize that you were still working on it when I came in and tidied up a bit. No harm either way. --Ed (Edgar181) 23:49, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of article Doug Cutting

Hi, I created a page for Doug Cutting yesterday and you deleted it today. I am highly curious why you did this. He is referenced on several other important Wikipedia pages in the area of search technology, such as Lucene and I believe I followed the general guidelines and spirit of Wikipedia in creating the page. Onohoku 04:39, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, second comment - I see now from the changelog that you noted '7, unremarkable person' as the reason for your deletion. I assume from this that you are not a search technologist. I am currently a founder of a venture-backed search company, and though I have no personal relationship with Doug or personal interest in promoting him, I can assure you he is one of the more important people in the area of search technology today. I created the article because I was surprised that there wasn't one already, particularly given the pre-existence of an open link on pages such as Lucene. I am going to re-create the article on him, with some textual changes indicating his importance. I would appreciate your contacting me to discuss this if you have any further issues, rather than respond-by-delete. All the best, Onohoku 04:47, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

The article I deleted didn't have any statement that asserted the notability of Doug Cutting, which is why it met criteria A7. I don't believe there was anything improper about the deletion. However, if what you say is true, it sounds like an article that meets Wikipedia's guidelines for inclusion of biographies can be readily created. I certainly wouldn't automatically "respond-by-delete". If you would like to rewrite the article starting from the deleted version, just let me know and I'll undelete it for you. --Ed (Edgar181) 12:50, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Ed, please do undelete it and I'll use it as the basis of the next version. I am fairly new to contributing to Wikipedia, and am still trying to find the balance between "neutrality" on one hand and "assertion of notability" on the other. Thanks! Onohoku 18:09, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, done. If you need help, let me know. Happy editing! --Ed (Edgar181) 18:12, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Ed, let me know your thoughts - new version is up. I can't work on this endlessly, and am asking some co-workers to do a detailed fact-check on it for me, but it should be a significant improvement. Cheers, Onohoku 22:37, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Looks good to me. Thanks for your contributions, and sorry if I contributed to a bit of a rocky start for you at Wikipedia. --Ed (Edgar181) 23:27, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

User talk:65.241.114.199 vandalism

I was in process of calling for admin support to block this crew who seem to have slipped notice other than warnings for quite some time (cleverly removing their warnings over and over). I looked at their history and saw what they had done several times and pulled the last intact series of warnings (to which they had edited to a simple "we are good"). I believe this IP warrants monitoring as their pranks seem to show no sign of response to warnings. Thanks, HJ 21:53, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

That's fairly typical vandalism. I'm glad you caught the removal of warnings. I'll keep a watch on the IP too. --Ed (Edgar181) 21:56, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Block Procedure

I wanted to ask you how my handling of the IP warning/block actions taken by me on 72.10.102.41 were the proper ones, and I was wondering if you would give me some advice on how to improve if I can. -Adun 22:39, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

What you did was perfectly fine. You may find it easier to use the standard warning templates found here: Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. Like Hallmark cards, there's one for every occassion. Also you might want to check out Wikipedia:WikiProject User scripts which has some automated javasript tools that make some routine editing, such as warning vandals, a bit easier. --Ed (Edgar181) 23:05, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks so much! I've on the site for a while, but I'm just now getting really active. Chembox new

2 .. up to 8. Could you have a look at {{chembox new}}, and see if things go right now. I need some independent testing, I also asked Ben to have a go at some. I am going to look into search engines behind the identifiers, some are easy to link, but some still need a linky .. See you around, and thanks already! --Dirk Beetstra T C 18:31, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

OK, I chose isobutane for my test because it has two images stacked over one more image. That part worked fine. I ended up with a minor problem though - I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with the "related compounds" section. I'm really impressed with the improvements that you have made to the template. --Ed (Edgar181) 00:12, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! Hmm .. that is a strange error. Can't figure that one out yet. I don't even think I touched that part of the chembox. Must be a parameter that is wrongly named .. I'll have a second look. --Dirk Beetstra T C 00:27, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Whee .. solved. Time to go to bed .. or .. --Dirk Beetstra T C 00:38, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Huh. I thought I tried that. Thanks for fixing it. --Ed (Edgar181) 11:12, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Very well possible, but I think there was already a fault in the original version, there was a parameter in one of the sub-templates named wrongly. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:15, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

New articles

Hi Ed. Is there a place to put new articles on chemicals in English WP like there is in the German version? It might be good, if a native speaker could have a look through new articles, e.g. decabromodiphenyl ether. --Lucido 20:07, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

The best place to announce new articles and/or ask for a chemist to take a look is at the Chemicals Wikiproject: Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemicals. We'd be glad to help out. I've taken a look at a couple of the articles you've written and they look very good to me. I've made only a few minor changes. Thanks for creating them! --Ed (Edgar181) 21:16, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your changes, Ed and Dirk. I knew the Wikiproject Chemicals before, but I did not find a list for new articles like there is one in the German WP. So, I've just added the new articles to the list of organic compounds. Another question: The importance of PentaBDE is not given. Might it be important to know that this substance is a candidate to be added to the Stockholm Convention on POPs? --Lucido 23:48, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Feel free to use your own judgement about the importance of the topic. I would probably say "mid", but it is a very subjective scale. --Ed (Edgar181) 00:11, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
I would rate it as "mid" or "high". Maybe Dirk has another opinion. When including the S-phrase template to PentaBDE, I noticed that (1/2) was not provided. In the German WP, this feature has become available recently. --Lucido 11:15, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

If you don't mind me jumping into this discussion, we haven't really discussed the importance rating on chemicals yet. It is, as Ed says, very subjective. The table is:

Top Subject is a must-have for a print encyclopaedia
High Subject contributes a depth of knowledge
Mid Subject fills in more minor details
Low Subject is mainly of specialist interest.

Must have, I think I would judge things like hydrochloric acid, acetone, aspirin in that. Those are chemicals that people really encounter directly in real life. High class are things like diethyl malonate, a common building block in organic synthesis, has a reasonable impact in chemistry, but not important enough to see in high class, the common public does not see this. Low class are some specialistic things, maybe something like lead(II) chloride, used as an oxidiser in some inorganic (and organic?) reactions, but nothing really more than 'just another lead salt'. The rest is then 'Mid-class'.

I would put the majority of the flame retardands into mid, I guess. Flame retardant itself should have a {{chemistry}}, and there that compound should have at least a high. Hope this gives a bit of feeling for the system, though we have not discussed this yet in wikipedia:wikiproject Chemicals, Wim van Dorst is the most active in these classifications, together with Walkerma (the latter also because of CD-versions of wikipedia). My main target at the moment is to get at least the {{chemicals}} on the talkpages of as many chemicals as possible (Betacommands Bot is going to help, there) Hope this helps. --Dirk Beetstra T C 11:36, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your detailed answer. I have included the {{chemicals}} with the 'mid' rating as you suggested. Is it correct to use {{chemicals}} for brominated flame retardants as you have done instead of {{chemistry}}? Concerning S-phrases in brackets, the same problem exists in benzisothiazolinone, where for (S2) the template can't be used. So, I just wrote it in plain text. --Lucido 00:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I agree that anything that is a chemical substance should get the {{Chemicals}} template. I put the {{S2}} template in benzisothiazolinone and it seems to work fine. --Ed (Edgar181) 12:35, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Certainly it works like this. But it should be in brackets, as S2 is not similar to (S2). In the Official Journal of the European Union (search for "2634-33-5"), the S-phrases given are S: (2-)24-26-37/39-61. As there are many other substances with S-phrases in brackets (e.g. all substances on the same page in that journal), a template would be nice. --Lucido 13:38, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
I think you will find that it is only ever {{S2}} which is in brackets, "Keep out of reach of children". The reason is that it applies to all hazardous chemicals, but only when they are sold for domestic purposes. I will see if I can dig out the directive to confirm that, but this was always my understanding. As such, we don't usually include {{S2}} in the chemboxes, although the template is there for completeness. If you want me to make {{(S2)}} it is very easy to do (it could even just be a redirect to {{S2}}), but I'm not sure that it is necessary. Physchim62 (talk) 14:17, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Sorry Lucido, I didn't realize that there was a bit of a distinction between S2 and (S2) - my fault. And thanks Physchim for stepping in to address the issue. It seems to me that it would be best to create the (S2) template since it would require little effort and might avoid little confusions such as this one in the future. --Ed (Edgar181) 14:23, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Done :) Physchim62 (talk) 14:30, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. There are also (S1) and (S1/2) needing a template. These S-phrases are always in brackets according to EU legislation (page 3): Safety phrases S1 and S2 are shown in brackets in Annex I and can only be omitted from the label when the substance or preparation is sold for industrial use only. --Lucido 15:32, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
OK. I've created {{(S1)}} and {{(S1/2)}} - hopefully I did it right. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:44, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Taming

Oi Edgar, how don't you know that taming occurs in English Public schools such as Uppingham? We have a special club, and I myself am a keen follower. The average bet is usually £10,000 on individual fights, and this far exceeds any bet put on other 'legitimate' sports. I think that you are very silly, Edgar181. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Reihillrog (talkcontribs)

Block of 64.90.250.32

Just wanted to let you know that this vandalism occurred while I was in the school building. I printed out copies of the talk page and some of the offending edits and took them up to the librarian's office. Had to explain a bit, but this is being investigated. Daniel Case 19:26, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

That's kind of funny actually. If you don't mind reporting back to me sometime, I'd be curious to hear what becomes of it, if anything. --Ed (Edgar181) 21:27, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm hoping I get an opportunity to actually talk to these kids (the ones named in the edits do not appear so far to have been logged on today). Maybe I should go get testimonials from all the people (including you) who reverted the edits, just to show them how much work they create for people all over the world.

And then I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was the one who vandalized the article on the school from his home account. Daniel Case 02:20, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Block 207.54.223.43

Why are we even giving this person(s) an opportunity to vandalize again. From the IP's history I see nothing but abuse and vandalism, and for a long time. I think it's time the admins blocked this IP for at least 6 months to a year. Otherwise, what's the point? All we are going to do is waste time correcting this vandalism over and over and over . . . --RobNS 21:28, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

I can certainly understand your frustration with vandalism - especially on a senstive topic such Auschwitz. You may be surprised to know that the amount and type of vandalism from that IP address is quite mild compared to much of what comes from other school IPs. That IP was only blocked twice before I blocked it for a week yesterday - and compared to many other admins, I tend to give longer blocks. I have blocked many IPs for 6 months, but usually after more than just 2 prior blocks. Loads of petty vandalism is the price Wikipedia pays for its "anyone can edit" policies. If it was entirely up to me to set Wikipedia blocking procedures, I would be much less lenient with repeated vandalism. I hope that explains things a bit. --Ed (Edgar181) 21:43, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you Ed, you have a lot of patience, and are reasonable. I hope one day to be an Admin, and to have your better judgement and not be to rash. Hopefully my history of contributions and edits show that. Best wishes --RobNS 21:49, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Authoring

Did you write the Ethylene article? I need specific author information for referencing, and fast! If you authored this, could you please get back to me with your name and the date you did it? I'm not allowed to reference Wikipedia as a source in my essay, because the teacher says that it is not a reliable source. Thank you very much! Ben Swanson 20:34, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

No, I didn't write the article. I contributed a bit, but the list of people who have also do so is quite long - click here to see the full list. On a side note, if your teacher says the Wikipedia is not a reliable source, you shouldn't be using material in the article to write your essay. --Ed (Edgar181) 20:39, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I'll be sure to use your advice, and I'll use the list. My teacher told us this after I had written the whole essay, so I can't do much about it now. I'll be sure to use it in later essays! Thanks again, and Happy Valentine's day! Ben Swanson 21:25, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Fenger

Hmmm. A chemist who knows all about American small sailing craft. Re:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log/delete&page=Fenger

I happen to like to create the section heads and then fill them in. I don't think this should cause a major problem. Call me naive. Or Ishmael.

I don't have the time, to be honest, to figure out cryptic deletion codes, but it appears I didn't fill in the "blanks" fast enough for you.

I started Fenger, (Frederic Fenger, a small boat sailor and naval architect) ... then went off to attend to things. I come back a few hours later (the same day, mind you), it's gone. Would have appreciated a query first, because some contributors do not spend all their time logged into Wikipedia... try not to be faster than your collaborators.

Nor am I terribly skilled at the coding and recoding involved. This may make me even slower.

I don't fool with the chemistry articles, and I'd be pleased if you would not fool with the boating articles without exercising common courtesy first: a query to me one way or another.

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dadadata (talkcontribs)

  • To Dadadata. The above constitutes something of a personal attack. I have never been in a small boat but I would consider myself as competent as Fenger to do what Fenger did [see *1* below]. OK, Stephenchou0722 deserves a severe reprimand for tagging the article within two minutes of your creating it. However two hours then elapsed before the article was deleted. This was ample time for you to apply an {{hangon}} tag and expand the article. You did nothing. So do not complain that the article was deleted. Be more civil in future and judge editor actions on their own merits. -- RHaworth 07:53, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
I don't believe I did anything inappropriate. The article was devoid of any content whatsoever - it was subject headings - and deletion of an article such as this completely within the bounds of Wikipedia policies. I encounter these types of empty articles all the time at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. If the empty articles don't get deleted, they will clutter up Wikipedia rather quickly. I apologize that you weren't warned. Sometimes Wikipedia can be come across as impersonal (especially to newcomers). You are welcome to edit chemistry articles all you like, within the bounds of Wikipedia policies, we could certainly use the help - and I will continue to edit sailing articles and any other articles, particularly where my administrator rights/duties can be helpful. If you would like me to undelete the article so you can add content to it, please just let me know. --Ed (Edgar181) 11:25, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Fenger II

Thanks for the explanation. Obviously a misunderstanding. You can certainly undelete it but I won't be able to add to it until this evening.

RHaworth is -- ?? --, who? I can guarantee he's not "competent" to do "whatever Fritz Fenger did." That's just silly. Will he build a rudderless sailing canoe and sail from the southern Caribbean to the Virgin Islands in it? Let me know when the project starts; I'm a professional journalist and I'll be there to document it. Etc., etc.

See [this]. Before Wikipedia ever existed, I created a whole set of difficult-to-find e-books -- illustrated -- online covering canoe sailing ca 1860-1950. I know a little about the topic. I had hoped to contribute basic articles for Wikipedia including links to the e-books.

Nothing personal. Just exasperation at being thwarted in my attempt to do a good deed.

As for {{hangon}} I have no idea what that is but I will go look. In fact I have been a Wiki contributor who has always added valuable content in the past. My aggravation is with the apparent contest among those like Stephenchou0722 to win some sort of prize for sheer speed and mass of flags and deletions. It makes a contributor's task harder, not easier, no matter what policy may be used to justify it.

As for two whole hours, some of us have other demands on our time. Those who don't realize that are hurting, not helping, the community idea the project represents. If there are people who want to be speed-janitors for spam, give them some improved guidelines. Next time I'll go use whichever tag says "keep your cotton-pickin hands off for 24 hours, suh."

Thanks again for the clarification, and don't take it personally, guys. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dadadata (talkcontribs)

I have undeleted the article to give you a chance to expand it. --Ed (Edgar181) 13:39, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
*1* I am very sorry, that must have caused some confusion. What I meant to say was "as competent as Edgar181 to do what Edgar181 did". Ie. I don't need to know one end of a boat from the other to delete an empty article. For future reference Dadadata please note that we never sign articles in the (Main) namespace but we always sign comments on talk pages. We will never get rid of trigger-happy people who attack articles within minutes of their creation (I have done it myself) so always create a new article in a personal sandbox (eg. user:Dadadata/sandbox) until it is of a viable size. -- RHaworth 18:36, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
No problem, I figured what you meant. Thanks for prodding the article. That will ensure that it gets deleted if it doesn't get expanded soon. I was planning on keeping an eye on it, but this way is better than relying on my lack of forgetfullness.  :) --Ed (Edgar181) 18:47, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

speedying AfDs

Apols for talking to Dadadata on your page. This message is for you!

Please read this discussion. In your case, I saw Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nigel madinga and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lurkeritus. -- RHaworth 13:57, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't mind at all if you want to respond to others on my talk page. As for the speedies, I will normally immediately close any AFDs associated with them - I don't know how I missed them this time (two in one morning!) --Ed (Edgar181) 15:00, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

66.4.125.11.

I didn't even click Edit, and it was blocked. I just clicked a link in one of the articles I was reading and it was supposed to be a list.

Norlid 15:03, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

I blocked that IP address on Jan 8 for a period of two months because of repeated vandalism from anonymous editors using that IP - as you can see here. It has been blocked many times in the past, so longer blocks are completely appropriate in the case. This block is annonymous only, so it should not affect users who log in. And it shouldn't affect the ability to read Wikipedia articles for users who are not logged in. If you can be more specific about the problem you are having, I'll try to help. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:12, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Popptarrt

Hi Edgar,

Did I accidently replace Popptarrt with a db tag? I'm fully aware that it was nonsense, but replacing content of any kind with a tag is not appropriate, and I apologize if I did so. MacGuy(contact me) 00:24, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

It was tagged for deletion by Mad onion (talk · contribs). No problem in any case. --Ed (Edgar181) 01:26, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Selketbot adding duplicate templates

I like selketbot and think it will save quite a bit of effort. But I just wanted to point out that Selketbot has added a duplicate template to the talk page of 199.185.84.234 (talk · contribs). Thanks. --Ed (Edgar181) 16:49, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out. It does check for the {{SharedIP}} template but it wasn't set up too look for {{SchoolIP}} also. The bot is shut down pending the correction. -Selket Talk 17:24, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
There's a bunch of others at Category:User talk header templates, if you don't know already, that Selketbot should probably look for too. --Ed (Edgar181) 17:34, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
I have all the important ones from there now too. It should avoid any tagged page except those where the template has been substituted. I'll work on trying to figure that one out next, but its back up and running as of now. If you see any more problems, let me know. --Selket Talk 21:05, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

The Cosmium/etc superheavy-element-names mess

You think it would be worthwhile to AfD all those redirects from his made-up names? DMacks 19:13, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

That's funny because I was just wondering to myself if I could speedy delete them under criteria R3, but RFD is probably the best way to handle them. One way or another, they should go because they are not appropriate. --Ed (Edgar181) 19:47, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Missing topics in chemistry

Thanks for help with the misssing topics page - Skysmith 10:05, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm glad to help. I'll get to a few more soon. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:22, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Your block on User:Don't Rain on my Burrito

I've been following this user's block becuase I received a collateral IP block because of it. I noticed that you blocked this user for one time vandalism on Elephant. You gave the user an indef block. I also noticed that this is a relatively new user and you issued the block with no warnings given, and no notice to the user why he was blocked. This seems like a case of biting the newbies. Can you explain your actions in this case? Thanks! Malber (talk contribs game) 17:56, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

FYI, I have removed autoblock so that Malber won't keep getting autoblocked every time he logs in and I have reduced the block length to 48 hours, based on this not appearing to be a vandalism-only account. Please feel free to take any action you feel to be appropriate, from reinstating the indef to removing the block completely ... but if you do modify the block, please make sure to do so without autoblock. Thanks. --BigDT 18:01, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Malber, I apologize that you got caught up in the autoblock. I don't normally issue a block for one time vandalism. However, I have noticed that other admins regularly do so for vandals that make Colbert-inspired edits to elephant, reality, and related articles. I have chosen to follow suit. Don't Rain on my Burrito (talk · contribs) made just such an edit. I fully support BigT's removal of the autoblock. And since the user has asked politely to be unblocked with a promise of good behavior (uncharacteristic of someone whose only interest in Wikipedia is the current Colbert vandalism fad), I won't object to BigT's reduction of the block on the username. --Ed (Edgar181) 18:16, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. I apologize if my initial comment appeared to assume bad faith. I can understand the reaction to Colbert style vandalism. Malber (talk contribs game) 18:28, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
No problem at all. Happy editing! --Ed (Edgar181) 18:33, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

I have now re-blocked this user indefinitely for continued Colbert vandalism. Oh well. Unfortunately, in my experience, every time a vandal is given a second chance, they use it to vandalize more. --Ed (Edgar181) 18:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Spambot

Just as a note, the IP you just blocked for six months is part of a huge IP range, 89.20.97.0/24, used by a spambot. I've blocked the range for 24 hours until I can get Shadowbot in working order to counter the spam. Shadow1 (talk) 21:15, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Great. I've blocked a bunch of individual IPs in that range as I've encountered their linkspamming. I've also requested addition of one of the spammed links at the sitewide blacklist and I saw that another was already listed. Thanks for your help. --Ed (Edgar181) 21:26, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Chemical structures

Hey, I work with the Graphic Lab, where we vectorizing images (among other tasks), and we have come across some of the chemical structures you have done, that were saved as PNG's. Would it be possible that you still have the original files, which you (or we could) save out as SVG's; this would save us from having to redraw all of them. Thanks. -YK Times 03:05, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your interest in the chemical structures, but I don't think I understand your question about the original files. The files that I upload are identical to the ones that I save on my computer. In any case, I don't keep them for long, so I only have a few of the most recent ones. I have looked into creating SVGs, but unfortunately with the software that is available to me, it's not all that easy to do - in general it doesn't seem worth my effort. Also, I'm not entirely pleased with the results. The SVGs ended up with minor discrpenacies that I find a bit awkward. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. --Ed (Edgar181) 12:52, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Hello Ed. Just wondering how things are going. Haven't spoken to you since you became an admin. You're doing a grat job User:Dragons_flight/deleterlist and User:Durin/Admin_activity#January_2007_2. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:15, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I didn't realize that stats like those were kept - I'm a bit surprised that I've ended up so high on those lists. Admin duties are going fine - with just the normal "why did you delete my article about my dog"-type complaints. --Ed (Edgar181) 12:52, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Blocked for some reason

Good afternoon from Guernsey. My title is Editor Elizabethan and I have received notice that I am blocked by you for vandalism. I am a gentle lady of a certain age with no history of smashing windows or wrecking telephone boxes. From time to time, I consider it expedient as I go about my business patrolling cyber-space to remove some of the sillier comments placed on this medium by some of the pupils here who are less able to amuse themselves than others. If I have offended you in any way, this I regret, but I cannot see how I have. Would welcome your answer.

I have not blocked you, User:Editor Elizabethan, nor has anyone else. You are free to edit. And I never block people for offending me - only for violating Wikipedia's policies. Can you be more specific about the circumstances in which you saw a message that you were blocked? Were you editing using another username? Were you editing without being logged in? I'll need this additional information to help you out. --Ed (Edgar181) 15:16, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

block review

Hi, could you please review my block ? I think I was blocked unjustly and wrongfully. [4]. Tulkolahten

It looks like someone else is already looking into it. --Ed (Edgar181) 00:46, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Geneticist Page

Hi, I was wondering if I could get you to look over the geneticist page. I am working on it for a class and could use some feedback, like any corrections and if you think there is anything else that should be added to the page. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks-Nikki —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nichschn (talkcontribs) 17:35, 22 February 2007 (UTC).

The article looks good to me. I can't think of anything else at the moment that should be added to it, but it's not quite my field so it's possible I'm missing something. I just made a few minor changes. --Ed (Edgar181) 19:33, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Mystery Block

I logged in, looked at my page and it said you had blocked me - total mystery! Haven't done any editing since a small boy put his friend down as World Sumo Champion under our school's sporting achievements - a far cry from your field of expertise. I expect the site was just having a Bad Day. With kind regards. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Editor Elizabethan (talkcontribs) 15:45, 23 February 2007 (UTC).

All I can say is that it appears that your username has never been blocked. Happy editing. --Ed (Edgar181) 16:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
