Do you think Strich3d's newest userbox is warranted (the one about United Macedonia)? It is openly irredentist and is hardly predisposing to dialogue and good faith. Thanks. Mr. Neutron 14:36, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

And how about your irredentist: "no Macedonians in 19 century"? we all know your

nationalistic bulgarian views Mr."Neutron", im not frighten to show my views (as you are) because Macedonains in Aegean Macedonia and Pirin Macedonia are matter of fact and nobody can deny it, i speak Macedonian on the streets of Lerin, Voden,Kostur etc. Show me bulgarians or bulgarian manifesation in Macedonia? If you assholes don't like "just anybody" editing the stupid and often wrong information on Wikipedia then you shouldn't let anyone edit or contribute. Do the fucking work yourself asshole.

I guess you haven't figured out yet that Wikipedia is just a joke for entertaiment purposes only.

This is Ѕhultz. I'm sorry that I don't have the will to log in and edit/post from there right now. ESkog, I'm sorry you feel troubled about my moving to another account and being a little afraid of Frеak (The fear has subsided a little though.) I assure you this is only temporary and I do plan on coming back to that old account someday.

Please don't feel like I'm trying to abandon you; that wasn't my intent. You've been a great mentor and you've helped with a lot of advice and guidance and I am still interested in having you as a mentor. I moved to editing mostly under new IPs (and sometimes accounts) in order to restore a peaceful mental state and with the peace of mind in knowing that no one who doesn't think fondly of me scrutinizes me in a way that makes me uncomfortable like they used to. (Those IPs and accounts have good edits and are doing great so far; no trouble on them if you were wondering.)

I emailed you that night because I wanted you to know that I've been intending for a long time to edit again on that account one year after I stopped activity there, but that the one condition I told you about hasn't been met. (i.e. that there was no edit from him in over a month by that day.) If it was, I would've logged back on and posted to your talk page, and probably in a more upbeat mood.

I know I have to get over my fears here and that can be done (And I now hope that the reasons for my fears no longer apply), but I've also been troubled and heartbroken in other parts of my life and I'm hoping to solve those other issues before I come back on here with that account. I have so many knots to untangle figuratively already so I hope no one and nothing else makes me feel worse, here and anywhere else in my life. I have been an obsessive people-pleaser for quite some time now so I hope this message doesn't make you feel worse about me.

I have seven email messages from you stored in my archives from after May 2006, so I assumed you were comfortable about replying via email again, at least from your main email account. But I see you're concerned again about your privacy in sending emails, so I thought I'd show you safe & anonymous emailers so you would feel safer about replying without unintentionally revealing possible confidential data. Anonemail, LatentAngel.net's Free Anonymous Email Contact, and beHidden.com's anonymous emailer are all ways you can send email more safely & comfortably without revealing your IP address and any other detail you don't want to share.

Please don't feel like I'm trying to abandon you or anything like that; I don't mean any ill will toward you in any way. Other life dilemmas plus 14-credit-hours this semester has put too much on my plate, and if your new teaching job has done similar, I understand and hope things get easier and less stressful for the both of us, and that we have a healthy, wholly positive relationship. I will come back to my old account, I promise. I just have to resolve certain issues and wait for a good time to return. I'll also seek spiritual healing in the meantime. --129.130.233.21 00:07, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please tell me where you see any assertion of notability per WP:Notability (music). Response here. Thank you.--Tasc0 21:48, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:Notability (music) is not, nor does it assert to be, a speedy deletion criterion. There are many articles which have no business being in WP which shouldn't be speedy deleted. (ESkog)(Talk) 22:02, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
In fact, from the top of the page you linked: Important note: Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion. I'd recommend Wikipedia:Proposed deletion if it is otherwise clear and unobjectionable that the article should be removed. (ESkog)(Talk) 22:03, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, but that's not what I asked.--Tasc0 22:31, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
The article meets WP:CSD#A7--Tasc0 22:32, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
It says he's released music under several labels, including one which we have an article on. It may well be a shaky claim of notability, but there is a claim of notability. The article was tagged as "not meeting WP:Notability (music)" - and that's not a speedy deletion criterion. A7 is not met here. (ESkog)(Talk) 04:52, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Having an article about a record label does not makes it notable. Jesus. Please read WP:MUSIC--Tasc0 18:45, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

You are misunderstanding me here. I'm not making the claim that the article is notable. I understand our music guidelines. The speedy deletion criterion is that there is "no claim of notability", and there clearly is such a claim in this case. I don't know why this is so hard. (ESkog)(Talk) 22:26, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, you are misunderstanding. You're not reading well. I first asked you "Please tell me where you see any assertion of notability per WP:Notability (music)" and you say the he's work with a couple of record labes and one of the record labes has an article in Wikipedia, and that, my friend, does not make it notable (WP:MUSIC#C5). So, if you really can answer my question, you're welcome to answer it. Thank you.--Tasc0 22:45, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
You asserted the article was subject to speedy deletion per CSD A7. However, the page you keep citing explains very clearly that WP:MUSIC is NOT a route to speedy deletion. I am not claiming that this guy IS notable, just that there is a CLAIM of notability in the article, which is enough to surpass the bar for CSD. We set that bar low intentionally. (ESkog)(Talk) 22:52, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, real slow now: where/wich-is-the-claim-of... NOTABILITY!?--Tasc0 23:49, 29 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
The claim of notability is that he has produced music under several notable record labels. A claim of notability is not necessarily a true claim. I wish I understood why you are getting so worked up about one speedy deletion. Are you this argumentative every time an administrator disagrees with you, or are you making a special exception in my case? (ESkog)(Talk) 14:39, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, not at all. If you don't mind, can you show me wich are the notable record labels acording to WP:MUSIC? Thank you.--Tasc0 19:17, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The point of speedy deletion is that any administrator, even one who knows nothing about the content of the article, can look at it and say "yes, this clearly satisfies those criteria." You don't want to get admins into the business of unilaterally determining what a "notable record label" is - that's what AFD discussions are for. (ESkog)(Talk) 00:48, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, that's what WP:MUSIC is for. And according to it, those labels are not notable.--Tasc0 02:22, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is getting nowhere. Let's recap:

  • Your claim: the dude isn't notable, and probably fails WP:MUSIC. I don't disagree.
  • My claim: as the article makes some claim of notability, the article is not subject to our stricter criteria under WP:CSD A7.

We're not even on the same page here, and no amount of my explaining it has brought you any closer to comprehending the policies in question. Since I can't come up with any further action I should take regarding this article, I'm not going to waste any more time thinking or writing about the situation. (ESkog)(Talk) 03:41, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

edit

In response to "read WP:MUSIC - it is explicitly NOT a speedy deletion criterion. Let the AFD run its course", according to WP:MUSIC there is an exception:

Failing to satisfy the notability guidelines is not a criterion for speedy deletion. However, an article that fails to assert that the subject of the article is important or significant can be speedily deleted under criterion A7.

I stated in my edit summary that there was no "no assertion of importance/significance."

I'm fine with whichever way it goes. Just pointing that out. Gh5046 16:59, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

TV article Logos

edit

Hiya! I've noticed you have been moving logos from galleries into other parts of the articles they are in. If being in a gallery is against the rules, then i'm all for it, but hundreds of other articles (such as WJBK, and CHAN-TV) also use that coding to display the images. If you want, i can help you remove the galleries and keep the images in the pages (i've already done so for most of the E! (Canada) stations. It's not as pretty, but hopefully, it is more acceptable. I have another idea as well...possibly merging all the past logos into one large image (CHEK-TV's first logo is a perfect example of this...), which would remove much clutter, and still be acceptable, to my knowledge. i'd like to hear what you think in return. RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 17:46, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

That makes sense. However, how could we elaborate on each logo? perhaps explaining the years it was used, and how it differs from the other logos? RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 15:46, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

ESkog: How do I "talk" with you? Do you have an email address or do I list my questions on this page? You sent me a message regarding an edit I submitted regarding the University of Notre Dame. The edits I submitted were facts accumulated from University Archivist Wendy Schlereth, former University Archivist Thomas Schlereth, and my own alumnus status. It is true that Father Sorin intended to stay at the South Bend location only to wait out the winter. As South Bend is notriously cold from October until late April, the joke is that the Congregation of Holy Cross, of which Sorin was a priest, is still waiting for winter to leave!

  • The statistics about the science and arts & letters preprofessional programs having one of the highest acceptance rates to medical schools has been true for the past 35 years. I will attempt to contact the Deans of each college for a specific citation. Please note I did not state THE highest, but ONE of the highest.
  • University Provost is an academic title initially established in 1971, first held by Reverend James T. Burtchaell <ref.http://provost.nd.edu/>. This is easily verifiable by yourself if you doubt it. If you need me to put in a specific citation, tell me what you would regard as a verifiable source. (I was a student between 1974-78 so know for a fact who was provost; he was followed by mathematics professor Timothy O'Meara.) The present provost is Dr. Thomas Burish. <ref. http://provost.nd.edu/>
  • Wikipedia itself has several articles referring to the Notre Dame Victory March as the greatest college football song ever written. Peru Question

edit

Hello. I came up to your pictures of the Sacred Valley in Peru, and since I am planning to visit the same area this coming May 2008, I was wondering whether I could ask you some questions regarding your trip.

  • I don't know how extensive you traveled within Peru, nor your traveling style. But I prefer the independent type, armed with a Lonely Planet. I am a big fan of off-the-beaten path tourism, not just visiting the must-see sights but also the not-so-visited places as well. I am initially planning a ten-day stint covering just the Sacred Valley (I won't even touch Lima except for an afternoon). I plan to start in Cusco and work my way through Urubamba, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu, and then back to Pisac and Cusco. Do you think ten days is enough, or am I cramming too much into a small period of time?
  • I don't know whether you went as a part of a tour group, but I am planning to do this alone. I've traveled alone before (I spent a week in Quito, Ecuador with no problems), and have elementary command of Spanish. I am a male traveler, of Southeast Asian descent (not a Caucasian "gringo"). Do you think it is a safe endeavor?

If you could give me a few pointers here and there, I would greatly appreciate it. Although my user page says that I have retired, I still monitor my page (since I might come back in the future), so if you find the time to respond, I'll be waiting in my talk page.

Radio Futura

edit

Dear ESkog. If you go to talk:Radio Futura, you'll see a couple of record covers were pointed out by Betacommandbot as not fair use. Apparently you removed at least one of those.

I am not familiar at all with all these procedures and that is why I take the liberty of reaching out for you. To my understanding, as I see them everywhere, record covers are perfectly compliant with fair use concerns.

Maybe this:

It is contended that the use of this album cover in Radio Futura qualifies as fair use for the following reasons:

  1. This image illustrates the cover of the album or associated single that is discussed in the article.
  2. The image is only a small portion of the overall product.
  3. This image can be used to identify the album or associated single that is the subject of this article.
  4. It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to market or sell the album in any way.
  5. The image is of lower resolution than the original cover.
  6. The image is being used in an informative way and does not detract from sales of the album.
  7. No free or public domain images have been located for this album.

wasn't included in the description section of these two record cover images?

Assuming that you are familiar with these guidelines, and assuming as well that record covers are fine, I would like to request your help to restore these two images in the article.

Mountolive all over Battersea, some hope and some dispair 13:18, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the very swift reply.
I understand your comments. Not sure if they really apply in this case, because these two records dont have articles of their own and, therefore, can not be displayed elsewhere. Besides, this band has only 5 studio albums, from which these two covers are, which adds notability to their usage in the band's article (these covers are not for "best of", "b-sides" and other records more secondary to the band's notability).
All in all, I think they certainly deserve to be restored, as they seem to be perfectly compliant. Do you think you can help with that? Mountolive all over Battersea, some hope and some dispair 13:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Non-free images in discography and list articles

edit

Please carefully read Wikipedia:Non-free content, and stop re-adding nonfree images in list articles such as discographies. There have been frequent conversations on this topic and consensus has held that such uses are not allowed. If you feel that policy or interpretation should change, you are welcome to join in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content, but please do not continue to edit disruptively to violate the current policy. Fair use images, commentary, and discographies

edit

A discussion continues at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content about fair use images, commentary, and discographies. Since you have opposed use of such images in certain articles in question there, I would appreciate some suggestions there as to what is the quota of information to qualify as commentary for use with fair-use images. I created these articles as a starting point for others to add material but would be willing to do some additional work myself if there is a clear goal that can be set. If these articles are discographies, please define the term or set some boundaries so that I will know what is a discography and what is not. Thanks. — AjaxSmack 00:19, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

We've had a tremendous response from the community since we went live on Sunday but we need help organizing and improving the wiki. We decided to reach out to experienced Wikipedia editors working on the WikiProject: Kansas. You can read a little more about our project in a news story in the Lawrence Journal World BTW, I'm pretty sure I debated your brother in HS. I would love to have some KU wikipedia editors help us with this project. IF you could spare anytime with the project, it would be greatly appreciated.

The Censorship of Unflattering News about Kathleen Sebelius

edit

Apparently people discount that leaders set the tone for their subordinates. If a leader's immediate relatives starts a business that makes light of human suffering and all the said leader can do is praise their creativity, it is an issue of that leader's judgment. It is also as current as anything printed about Britney Spears or Paris Hilton and more important because this person sets policy and operates prisons where there are documented instances of people being sexually assaulted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wonder J (talkcontribs) 18:06, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

ESkog wrote: I am not engaging in censorship, and am certainly not capable of such. I'm just removing material that is either (1) tangential commentary, or (2) unsourced language which is clearly meant to be damaging. Under no circumstances does it make sense for the article about a political figure to include commentary about how some group feels about prison rape. It's not a bias, it's just limiting the article to what is relevant. (ESkog)(Talk) 19:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

My reply: How can you say that you are not capable of doing something? Am I conversing with a computer? The editor needs to state why he/she is not capable of performing said act. That is not a personal attack by the way. You wrote it; therefore, you need to explain why.

You said that you eliminated unsourced language. You also eliminated a lot of sourced language. I have one person trying to trivialize this by saying that most Kansans don't know about this, and you eliminated several Kansas news sources. Please explain what language was unsourced so that I can source it.

Tangential commentary? The statement from Governor Sebelius' spokesperson that the Governor is proud of her son's creativity is sourced, and it qualifies as an official position on the subject. That is not tangential to the controversy. If you were from Kansas, you would know that is part of the controversy.

You stated that "under no circumstances does it make sense for the article about a political figure to include commentary about how some group feels about prison rape." Two points: 1) If so, it makes less sense to discuss how some people have criticized Hilary Clinton for enabling her husband's alleged philandering, yet no one seems to criticize that article. 2) It makes sense that a group of people, aka Stop Prison Rape, to make statements about prison rape because the game "Don't Drop the Soap" alludes to it and many of the members of the group, including the leadership, are prison rape survivors.

Finally, for now at least, Governor Sebelius is responsible for the operation of Kansas State prisons. How can we say that she is not accountable for the way those prisons are operated? If her relatives are profiting from making fun of and even glamorizing crimes that occur in those prisons than that is part of her record of governance. It implicitly demonstrates how she implements prison policy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wonder J (talkcontribs) 19:36, 5 February 2008

ESkog wrote on my site with my annotations:

I'm not capable of censorship because, like you, I'm just another editor on Wikipedia. You're not capable of censorship because you're "just another editor on Wikipedia." That is poor logic.

And since you asked, I am actually from Kansas and am well aware of the significance (or lack thereof) of this story.Really? I read this and suspected far more, which you confirmed at the end of your statement

If you have a problem with the way Hillary Clinton's article is handled, then take your issue there, rather than disrupting another article to make that point. That is a dismissive remark. It is like going to court, your defense attorney stating that a certain precedent supports your case, and having the prosecutor try to trivialize it. I am citing how other articles are cited as the defense for my post. I also object to your stating that I am disrupting another article to make that point.

My central objection to the way you want to present the information is that this is not the article on prison rape, nor is it the article on John Sebelius. No, it is an article on Kathleen Sebelius and how she governs the State of Kansas, which includes State prisons. It is about an official opinion her spokesperson made on her behalf, which you deleted because you felt it was tangential, i.e. not relative.

A brief mention, discussing the facts of the situation, is sufficient to cover it. If a reader wants to get the more sensationalized version of the story, there are plenty of right-wing blogs out there. I suspected that you were a Sebelius supporter. You confirmed it with the right-wing blog comment. I am not a right-winger. I am a liberal. Though I have never been in prison, I understand the impact of homosexual rape. Tell me something, if the game had been titled something that alluded to the heterosexual rape of women, would you be telling me that you are 'well aware of the significance (or lack thereof)' of this issue? Do you think Kathleen Sebelius would praise her son's creativity then?"

In conclusion, you have not made any case to support deleting all of the remarks. However, you have helped me determine which remarks should return, including the statement from the Governor's spokesperson. Thank you for that.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Wonder J (talkcontribs) 20:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Since people can delete our sourced statements about Governor Sebelius, we should be able to delete unsourced statements. For instance, someone wrote that, "Some have also mentioned that in 2010 she may seek to become the first Democrat from Kansas to serve in the United States Senate since 1939. [1]" The reference cited is a list of past and current Kansas senators; not something mentioning that Governor Sebelius may run for the Senate. It's time to ask why that remarked wasn't deleted yet some of ours have been for silly reasons. --Wonder J (talk) 13:39, 6 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
