'nother puppet?

Interest by puppets and SPAs sure makes it difficult to neutrally judge a topic. this guy posted on my talk page.... not something usually done as a first edit by a person "New to Wikipedia. Anxious to learn. Page coming soon." Sure, I'm willing to argue points of sources with you and whether of not the GNG or CREATIVE may or may not be met, but not when encouraged to do so by a possible sock or meat puppet. Casts a bad light on even the strongest arguments. :( Schmidt, Michael Q. 21:18, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

More than likely another puppet. duffbeerforme (talk) 02:45, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
Hmmm... saw your comment at the AfD discussion where I posted and just wanted to say that a) I may have come across more snarky than I intended, so a quick mea culpa on that, and b) it looks like you and I share an ability to notice sockpuppets - who are getting notoriously good at things like IP-hopping and evading detection other that "I know darn well this isn't a new user..." I was pretty active dealing with this one, which I think has re-emerged but it's been difficult to determine its extent. Anyway, noticed on the above one you and Michael Q are looking at, when you check contribs, the user above has a talk page design very, very similar to this one. Could just be imitation as a form of flattery, or not. Just FWIW. Montanabw(talk) 22:12, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

DRV for Louisiana State University rugby

Hey, Duff. The DRV has been closed as "no consensus" -- which is what should have happened. I do not intend to re-nominate the article for AfD, and I do not think it would be productive if you did so, either. Frankly, I never much cared whether we deleted or kept this particular article about an admittedly obscure college club team. My reason for participating in the discussion was to clarify the notability guidelines applicable to college rugby club teams (in fact, the same guidelines that are applicable to NCAA varsity teams: WP:GNG and WP:ORG), and that a WikiProject's members cannot simply write their own notability guidelines in contravention of the actual guidelines without seeking consensus from the wider Wikipedia community. Hopefully, those points have been made -- and understood by the WP:Rugby Union guys. Given the addition of several independent sources to the article by Barry, the article is now close to satisfying the GNG/ORG standard with significant coverage in multiple, independent, reliable sources. It's certainly close enough that I don't feel compelled to attempt to delete it via AfD. That said, I have watch-listed Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Rugby union, the AfD listing for rugby-related articles, and I will participate in future rugby AfDs to make sure that they are held to the same standard as other sports team articles on Wikipedia. Cheers. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 08:58, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Academic article about you

Thought you'd be interested to see your thoughts analysed in this just-published academic article. http://quod.lib.umich.edu/d/dh/13396229.0001.001/1:8/--web-writing-why-and-how-for-liberal-arts-teaching?g=dculture;rgn=div1;view=fulltext;xc=1

Best, Vizjim (talk) 07:22, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

first glance, bad article. "In the debate that ensued, “Vizjim” pointed to institutional biases against Native intellectual sovereignty, a concept that eluded “duffbeerforme”". Rubbish. Concept does not elude me, It was just not a part of Wikipedia's policies. Leap made by author was pure guesswork. duffbeerforme (talk) 11:07, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

It has been pointed out to me here that there was sockpuppetry in this MfD which you raised and I closed. I plan to relist it in a couple of days. regards, JohnCD (talk) 08:23, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

FYI: I have relisted this MfD because of sockpuppetry in the first discussion. JohnCD (talk) 14:10, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

hi there; if you are going to label an article for deletion as being created by a banned or blocked user (which I have no problem with) it makes it much easier for the admin if you stipulate which banned/blocked user you are referring to. As you will doubtless know, the putative creator of this article is not blocked directly. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 18:39, 6 July 2015 (UTC)

Good job spotting that. I've also seen spammers wait for autoconfirmation and then actually move existing old articles with little or no watchers to a new title and hijack the content. I'm looking into an edit filter that can be used to monitor this type of thing, but I never thought about the redirect thing to get around NPP. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 16:43, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Contested deletion

A couple of days ago you nominated the article Scott Hanselman for speedy deletion as a repost of a deleted article. I initially deleted the article, but the editor who created it has now contested the deletion, and since the new article was not identical or almost identical to the previous one, I have accepted that editor's argument, and restored the article. However, I am not convinced that the article establishes notability in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines, so you may wish to take it to WP:Articles for deletion. Thanks for the notice. I'll look at it to see if afd is the go. duffbeerforme (talk) 11:36, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Issues with page "Shaun Bonett"

Hi Duffbeerforme,

I noticed the page "Shaun Bonett" on the list of "Category:Wikipedia articles with possible conflicts of interest from August 2015." I also read some intriguing remarks on the article Talk page. This prompted me to contact you and propose to contribute in reorganizing and cleaning up this article. After this restructuring and clean up, I deleted the warning tags also. To justify the warning tags deletion, I am referring to the Wikipedia message here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikipedia_articles_with_possible_conflicts_of_interest : "After you have made any necessary edits, remove the "COI" template. As of 09:53, 7 October 2014 (UTC) the total backlog was 8,314 articles.

I hope this is OK. Sony Orlov (talk) 12:28, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Special Request

Hi Mr D,

I've an interest in an article you created for Ngaiire. I'd like to expand this - but am new at wikipedia stuff - and would appreciate you checking over what I propose to add.

I thought I'd ask before I started on the wrong track and upset too many folks :)

Thanks Werafa (talk) 04:39, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Be bold and just do it. If you start on the wrong track, it can be fixed. Don't worry too much about upsetting people. Just take not of reliable sources and what they say. Avoid original research and write in an encyclopedic manner and all should be ok. duffbeerforme (talk) 07:08, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

can do - and thanks for starting the page ;)

Werafa (talk) 09:21, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the look-in. do I take it that policy is to not give links out to things like the music videos then? I've a bit more to add on the styles and collabs section, and then wish to add sections for the two albums. I do suspect that they may be spun off into pages of their own - but don't know if the first album (lamentations) is significant enough. it was a critical success, but sold 'ok'. Any advice? deprod

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Arkin Comics, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Maria Amor Torres

Horrible article, likely just promotional, though some voters at the AfD saw something in it. I can't delete it as G4 since it's quite different from the previous version. Drmies (talk) 19:16, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

This article was written some 7 years ago by me and has undergone several rewrites in order to improve it. Given that it received a "B" rating I am not sure why suddenly it authorship is in dispute. I am an academic and there is no conflict of interest and I suggest that most specialist articles in Wikipedia are written by academics interested in the field. I am not employed but nor do I have any ongoing involvement with this organization. Category:Conley family

I've declined the speedy tag you placed on Category:Conley family. The reason I declined it is because it doesn't actually meet the requirements of being a dependent page; however, I did nominate it for deletion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2015 December 2#Category:Conley family. Articles for deletion/Yasser Hareb

Hello, In regards to Yasser Hareb article that you nominated for deletion, this page was proposed for deletion before and the deletion tag was there as well but the User:Bearcat has accepted the undeletion request that I've put under the deletion tag. Could you please check it out with him? I humbly request the undeletion of this article for Advert for non notable individual. Lacks coverage in independent reliable sources. Yasser Hareb is a famous Author, Columnist, and TV presenter from the United Arab Emirates. This is not an advertising for him as he is already well known in the UAE and Middle East Region. He has many articles published weekly on official newspapers from the UAE and Middle East region and he has also a tv show that aired on a yearly basis on channels from the UAE and Middle East region. I've provided the sources and his personal pages on the official newspapers and TV channels in the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East region. You may refer to the references and sources provided and verify them. I've edited the page many times and it meets the Wikipedia policy now. The background and the information is accurate, credible and factual. Proof can be found on the Reference section on the same article and you may verify them. Your cooperation is highly appreciated in this regard. Awaiting your positive feedback :)
