Deletion edit

  1. Sorry - must've forgotten to do that, I normally do.
  2. Discussion can be opened up to a wider forum if you want, through the Articles for Deletion format; basically a discussion between a group of users which an administrator draws a consensus from as to whether the article should be deleted.
  3. You can delete the template, but I'd appreciate if you could show how the article fulfils Wikipedia:Notability (films). If notability can't be demonstrated, it's likely to be nominated again through AfD; a process where the creator does not get the discretion to remove the tag.

User:Colonel Warden has removed the {{dated prod|concern = no assertion that the documentary passes [[WP:GNG]].|month = December|day = 27|year = 2009|time = 17:20|timestamp = 20091227172030}} template from the article Pennsylvania Diners And Other Roadside Restaurants. He has made some other changes, but I am doubtful that the WP:GNG issue can be solved by improving the article.
To me, the proper course is to view this DVD as a source for other articles. User:Jennavecia says in her editor note, "None of these places is notable..." but the diners or a list of diners (the "places"), may be notable, or at least notable if included in an article, it is the article about a DVD which was nominated for deletion, and may receive an AfD shortly. --DThomsen8 (talk) 19:59, 3 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hi, thanks for the message on my talk. What would really help save the AZ article is not so much the number of comments but if someone adds references to the article to make it look more noteable, as I did with the diners article. Then you might find those requiring deletion will have a change of heart, or at least the decision making admin will look more kindly on the article. I searched Google News Archive and got 19 results for "Pittsburgh A To Z" but it was hard to pick out anything to add, perhaps you can add a couple of them as you know the subject much better than me? FeydHuxtable (talk) 18:04, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
It's not that I know the subject beyond the obvious, but I will admit that I can add inline citations from news articles. Let me have a try at it. --DThomsen8 (talk) 19:28, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

You might want to consider making a request at this bot User talk:Xenobot Mk V/requests for some auto-tagging on the WP:PHILLY project. I just had one done for WP:PENNA and have requested one for WP:PITTSBURGH. Let me know if you are interested and have any questions.--Blargh29 (talk)

Philadelphia deletion edit

Why have you reverted my edit today with the cryptic comment "Philadelphia industrial history is notable, documented, and should not be deleted" The only deleted material is the text that I added:

"In pursuit of this aim, a number of important philosophical societies were formed: the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture (1785), the Pennsylvania Society for the Encouragement of Manufactures and the Useful Arts (1787), The Academy of Natural Sciences (1812), and the Franklin Institute (1824). [1] These set out to establish and finance new industries and attract skilled and knowledgeable emigrants from Europe."

These were very important organisations in Philadelphian history, providing the focus for the new ventures, visible to people in Europe and instrumental in attracting them to the country. It was almost certainly, for instance, their activities which became known in England, and encouraged Samuel Slater to emigrate, though he settled in Rhode Island. They were powerful people - the Pennsylvania Society for the Encouragement of Manufactures and the Useful Arts on at least one occasion caused two people who stood in their way to literally fear for their lives and seek the protection of the British Consul. Chevin (talk) 22:32, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have gone seriously wrong with my revert, but I don't know how to get back to the proper text of the Philadelphia article. My intention was to put back the historical material about Philadelphia industry, not to delete the material you added. An undo on my revert seems to not have that desired effect. Can you help me correct the situation, perhaps by just adding back the material deleted?--DThomsen8 (talk) 00:22, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps the best would be is if you reverted it to the version of 15:36, 7 January 2010 Darthflyer which seems to be before we began any editing, make your corrections and either you or I can add my material. The way to do this is to open the history and find the revision that you want to revert to. You click on the date which opens the previous version with a warning above it. You then click on edit and warning comes up saying you are about to edit an old version of the article. Ignore this and click on "Save page" after noting what you are doing in the edit summary. Cheers and thankyou. Best wishes. Chevin (talk) 07:52, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I was traveling today, and I also had a computer hardware problem to correct, so I did not get to do the revert. Now I see that there are more edits following mine. The overall situation is complex, so my intention is to make corrections tomorrow when I am fresh, not now when I am tired and may well make matters worse. --DThomsen8 (talk) 01:55, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message on my talk page informing me you have added back the paragraphs. Many thanks. Chevin (talk) 16:55, 17 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

George Lee AfD edit

Your 'keep' rationale here is good, but it's not necessary to accuse your opponents of being "politically motivated". Most of the 'delete' voters have also offered valid policy-based reasons that have nothing to do with politics, and there's no need to try to discredit them by speculating about their political views. r?ana? talk/contribs 16:08, 25 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ettie Annie Rout edit

I have cleaned up all of the redlinks bar one on Ettie Annie Rout. What other problems need fixing on the article? -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 01:25, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

That was quick, and good work. There could be sections, and in a few cases the wording could be better, especially in the last paragraph. --DThomsen8 (talk) 01:28, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
I added two sections for ease of editing and reading, and removed one word in the last paragraph. There is plenty of material available about her that could be added, including her early life and education in Tansmania and then New Zealand, and her marriage in England. I leave all that to other editors. --DThomsen8 (talk) 15:11, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

FYI edit

This is starting to get some attention: User talk:SlimVirgin/templates.--Blargh29 (talk) 07:21, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I understand the changes in September 2009 that make it possible to put what otherwise would be long inline citations into the ===References=== section, and only a brief entry in the text. That technique is a very good and easy idea for a new article, but a lot of work on a long existing article with many full inline citations. --DThomsen8 (talk) 15:15, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Aristotle edit

Good work on Aristotle, Inc.. I bet there is a lot of information on the company in the AG's grand jury documents:[1][2][3]--Blargh29 (talk) 16:50, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some good leads, indeed, but a PDF is not easily searched. Perhaps there are newspaper reports, or some other plain text references? Also, I am not so sure that I want to add a lot of controversy material before I have some second-party references which are factual rather than directly political in nature. There is a lot on the company website, but I want secondary sources. --DThomsen8 (talk) 17:14, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
You are right, the second PDF above has details. Still, the charges involve particular people, and not the company, as far as I can see, but perhaps I am wrong. --DThomsen8 (talk) 17:51, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Per your above request, I've responded to a few of your comments regarding this and other matters on my talk page. Please check it out. EATC (talk) 16:45, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

A few things... edit

About the signatures, I put responded at Talk:Babette Josephs. Also, yes, I'm putting my legislative images on Commons. Also, I am in the process of seeking to secure a large number of legislative images caucus-by-caucus. Can you hold off on your requests? I've already made a good contact, that I will see how far that person wants to help me. --Blargh29 (talk) 16:44, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I can hold off about legislative images very easily. The overall question is not just images, and not just the legislature, but all official websites provided by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at taxpayer expense. Please comment on that overall question.
Next Thursday, snowfall allowing it, my state senator is speaking at a civic association meeting in my neighborhood, so I intend to get my own photos of him, and put them up on Commons.--DThomsen8 (talk) 17:21, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Western Pennsylvania Conservancy edit

That organization is HQ'ed in Pittsburgh, and it serves the western part of the state, so I think it's OK to be in both categories. Also, is this you?--Blargh29 (talk) 16:57, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

New pages edit

Hi,

I notice you're creating a lot of new politician pages and tagging them with {{newpage}}, but that template specifically states that it isn't to be used on WP:BLPs. -Zeus-u|c 21:35, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Also, you probably don't need the {{newpage}} tag anyways, since Philadelphia city council members are probably notable anyways. --Blargh29 (talk) 22:56, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • I see. Well, I bet that article, if re-created properly, would pass AFD. See WP:POLITICIAN, ("members of the main citywide government or council of a major metropolitan city.")--Blargh29 (talk) 23:53, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lincoln Highway in Nebraska edit

Thanks for the note re. photos of the Lincoln Highway in Nebraska. The only LH-related pictures I've got right now are from Shelton, Nebraska: the old Meisner Bank building there, which I photographed because it's on the Nat'l Register of Historic Places, is now operated as a museum and has a "Lincoln Highway Visitors Center" sign. You can see the sign, though not particularly well, near the left edge of this picture and in some of the others in the category. However, I don't know if that's quite what you're after.

A couple of stretches of the LH in Platte County are on the NRHP: see National Register of Historic Places listings in Platte County, Nebraska. I intend to photograph them before long, but right now Platte County's under a lot of snow, and it might not be good for shooting highway bridges and the like.

You might also be interested in some of the pictures in the Columbus Commercial Historic District. The buildings include the Lincoln Highway Garage (more pictures of which await editing and uploading).

Hope these are of interest to you. I'll look out for something with a red-white-and-blue Lincoln Highway sign when I'm down by US30 again with my camera.

--Ammodramus (talk) 23:58, 26 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your prompt reply. The Lincoln Highway doesn't go there, but I am originally from the eastern end of US 30. For pictures not yet taken, by all means wait until spring. We just had our fourth snowstorm, but I know someday the accumulation will melt and spring will be here. --DThomsen8 (talk) 00:04, 27 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Eastern Nebraska is now reasonably snow-free, and I got out and photographed the two NRHS Lincoln Hwy sites in Platte County, Nebraska. Pictures are at Commons:Category:Lincoln Highway (Gardiner Station, Nebraska) and at Commons:Category:Lincoln Highway (Duncan, Nebraska). Per your suggestion, I've used one of them in Route of the Lincoln Highway.

When a deletion discussion is relisted edit

As I recall, like you, the first time I saw a relisted discussion I had given an opinion in, I restated my opinion. What I suspect no-one has explained clearly to anyone is that a discussion, even if relisted multiple times, is intended to take all opinions into account, and weigh them in the balance before the closer of the discussion forms a view on the consensus. It ought to be clearer that we have no need to restate our views. I'm sorry you received an uncharitable comment for not knowing that.

Please do not be deterred from participating in other discussions based on any sub-optimal experience with this recent one. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 22:12, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! edit

Thanks for improving the article on Numerosity adaptation effect. I removed the orphaned tag and then realized that indeed there were not inline wikilinks in it. Anyway, I fixed it-thanks again.--Gilisa (talk) 17:52, 3 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

WP:SHIPS assessments edit

You may not be aware, but WP:SHIPS does not use importance assessments anymore, such as you were adding [4]. It is pointless to continue to assess importance since the bot is not programmed to read importance in our banner. -MBK004 01:36, 26 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it is necessary to make an edit just to remove them, but If I am making an edit to the talk page for another reason or reassessment I am removing the parameter. -MBK004 21:06, 28 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I will do likewise. --DThomsen8 (talk) 21:08, 28 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of John Penn ("the American") edit

The article John Penn ("the American") has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. TorriTorri(Talk to me!) 21:40, 28 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

This article no longer to be deleted. See the article talk page for details. My thanks to BillFlis (talk for his timely additions to the article. --DThomsen8 (talk) 20:41, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Congrats on List of National Historic Landmarks in Philadelphia fully illustrated now edit

Between you, Wikipedia Takes Philadelphia, and Mike Reali you've finished the illustration on this list. I've so marked at WP:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places (Second largest of the NHL lists). Congrats. Smallbones (talk) 14:12, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Fully illustrated, but some of the photos are black and white, or not so good. I already have some better photos of some of the buildings, with some already on Wikimedia Commons, and will take more. Mike Reali's photo of the two buildings at Penn were a welcome addition to the list. --DThomsen8 (talk) 20:38, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Jill E. Sommers. Rugby Road assessment edit

Thanks for your assessment of Rugby Road. Are there specific suggestions you can offer that would help improve the article and move it beyond C class? -Tjarrett (talk) 15:38, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

More photos would be appropriate, especially since the lede says that there are a "...variety of architecturally significant houses from several different decades." Photo captions should include the archtectural style. I based my evaluation in part on the number and quality of inline citations, but Google searches don't seem to provide any results easily made into citations. Perhaps searches on local newspaper sites might provide better results, and even information worthy of inclusion. --DThomsen8 (talk) 17:09, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
