Hi Fellow UCSF Wikipedian

edit

Hey, I'm one of the students who took the course last time it was offered. Just wanted to offer any support/help I could provide. Feel free to message me on my talk page or it shouldn't be too hard to figure out my UCSF email. -M — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emhawkins (talkcontribs) 20:09, 10 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

A cup of coffee for you!

Thanks for developing the article on headache. It is one of Wikipedia's more popular articles and gives information on a very common concern. It is also a difficult concept to explain because of its many causes. I really appreciate you being bold and jumping into such a complicated general topic. Reference templates

edit

That's some pretty awesome work on headache. I was pleased to see the POUNDing mnemonic included. Could I recommend that the references are formatted with the use of citation templates? This means that they can be maintained easier by bots etc. URLs to Access Medicine are usually unnecessary because most readers will not have access to that paid resource.

Let me know if I can help with anything. JFW | T@lk 15:08, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Blogging about UCSF Wikipedia Course

edit

Hi Dswatcha,

I am Ammar - a student pioneer of a student network called Students 4 Best Evidence (S4BE, s4be.org) - a network of students interested in promoting Evidence-Based Health.

Prof. Amin has told us about your experience and we would love it if you were able to write a blog about it for us - sharing it with fellow medical students will be sure to encourage others to participate. We at S4BE are getting ready for an event to encourage students to edit Wikipedia's medical content.

We are planning an exciting week (15th-19th September) of blogs, resources and tutorials, culminating in a live Wiki Editathon, online and at the UK Cochrane Centre, Oxford on the 16th September.

Cochrane has recently joined forces with Wikipedia in a partnership to get more Cochrane health evidence on Wikipedia. To celebrate this, we at S4BE want to get students involved in this partnership as we know Wikipedia is a key student resource.

Throughout Wiki Week, we will be publishing blogs on:

  • Why students are interested in Wikipedia
  • how to become active on Wikipedia
  • What is WikiProjectMed
  • How to edit Wikipedia
  • Cochrane and Wikipedia partnership
    and much more!

Wiki Editathon (launching on 16th September):

  • In person in Oxford at the UK Cochrane Centre and online using Google Hangout on the 16th
  • Wiki training: experienced Wikipedians will be joining us to provide support for students new to Wiki
  • Group work: working on a selection of interesting and new Cochrane reviews that we will help pre-pick
  • A prize…
and lunch for those coming in person!

For further information about the week and the Editathon: see the Wikipedia Event page here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Students_4_Best_Evidence_September_2014_editing_campaign

Prof. Amin has told us how busy you all are with your internships; your participation will be very much appreciated.
