File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Gulabsingh.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Gulabsingh.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 16:53, 22 February 2011 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Request reason:
I provided all the licensing required while uploading the images but still the user Mr. future perfect has blocked me. If there is anything that I may have missed, please let me know so that I do not repeat that mistake again.
Decline reason:
You clearly do not as yet understand the way in which you have failed to follow wikipedia guidelines. When you are able to explain here what you should have done, and have not done, you can be unblocked.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 17:14, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- You did not provide all the required information. You only added an unsubstantiated claim that the images were licensed as cc-by-sa. Since you clearly did not create these images yourself, what you would need to do is:
- explain who originally created the photographs or paintings, and when (the original source and author)
- state where you found the images (the immediate source)
- explain why you think the images are free.
Most likely these are not cc-by-sa, because only the original copyright owner could possibly release them under such a license. Perhaps they are in the public domain, but to ascertain that we need to know exactly wheun and where they were created. Fut.Perf. ☼ 17:15, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Request reason:
Thank you Mr. Future perfect for your clarification. As far as my uploads are concerned, the works are more than 100 years old and there is no way I can find out who the artist is. Moreover, these works are freely available on the internet. Please tell me what sort of licensing should I provide in this case. Dsisdj (talk) 15:21, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Decline reason:
As Future Perfect at Sunrise below explains, this is wrong. The media you uploaded are clearly mostly not older than 100 years. Sandstein 21:44, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

- If indeed these are of sufficient age to be public domain, then they're certainly free to use. You need to upload them to the Commons, specifying that they are public domain in the "licensing" section; and in the "Original source" box, say where you found them (for example, "book published in 1893", "photograph of 1881 painting, artist unknown", or whatever.) You're not blocked because you were doing anything improper; it's just that we needed to get your attention so you would provide the correct information along with your uploads. --jpgordon::==( o ) 19:17, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
In fact, not all of these items are likely to be in the public domain. Hari Singh lived into the 1960s, and the painting of him you uploaded (File:Hari Singh.jpg) may have been created at any time around the middle of the 20th century, so it is quite probably still in copyright. The two photographs of Pratap Singh are probably public domain, but we still need to know when they were taken and/or published. The painting of Gulab Singh (File:Gulabsingh.jpg) would certainly be public domain if it was contemporary with him, but as a painting it might have been created at any later date too, so we again don't know. Same for File:Zorawar Singh.jpg, which looked decidedly more modern (to my non-expert eye at least). Finally, File:Jammu-city.jpg, File:Gcet1.jpg, File:Mansar-Lake.jpg and File:AmarMahal.jpg were simply photographs of present-day landscapes and buildings that you took from somewhere on the web, so they were clearly copyright violations. What made you think it's okay to claim they were yours, when obviously they were not? Fut.Perf. ☼ 20:49, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
