Welcome! edit

Hello, Doublehelixguy, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! • User:BigDwiki, let me just say that this user's name is perfectly acceptable. Now, DoubleGuy, when you said "this page has been defamed by a disgruntled tenant of the building and legal action is being pursued against them", you were saying a couple of tricky things. First of all, were you implying that BigDwiki is that tenant? They're a Republican, they claim, and that's sad of course, but I don't get from their user page that they're living in Mobile, in that building. In other words, you better read WP:AGF. Next, you should consider that edits like this one are laughably promotional and will always get reverted, because we don't do that.

Finally, are you really threatening legal action against a Wikipedia editor, or possibly Wikipedia? That will get you blocked immediately. And besides, are you really the kind of person who threatens legal action against a person over some words on the Internet? That's kind of ... lame. In other words--please be careful. I am looking forward to watching you add neutral and verified information on a historic building in my homestate. That would be great, Roll Tide. All that other stuff, I will be happy to block you for it. Drmies (talk) 00:12, 22 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Drmies - Thanks for your feedback. Please note a few things. The edits were made in an effort to correct earlier postings that were citing inaccurate and false information regarding the building, it's maintenance, ownership, and overall operation. There is no intention to provide promotional content but accurate, factual information straight from the source, the company which owns the property. While I am not affiliated with them in any way I do know members of their staff and as such can provide first-hand details regarding the operation and details which no one else would be able to provide. Finally regarding any legal matter, there was no threat of any kind, however per 28 U.S. Code § 4101 the act of defamation is being committed through the false and harmful statements being made and because of the prevalence of Wikipedia could be construted as material, factual statements potentially causing harm. I can only assume Wikipedia does not stand for the harm, mistreatment, or other degradation of anyone. Doublehelixguy (talk) 02:21, 22 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

I suggest you look up defamation carefully. For one, truth is not defamation. While something may not be rosy and positive, as long as it is true it is not defamatory. Wikipedia is a neutral place. All articles and edits must remain neutral. Neutrality at its heart means that edits may not be overly positive and they may not be overly negative. On the articles that you seem to be interested in, you will find edits that are both positive and negative towards the subject. As long as these edits are properly sourced, they are allowed and encouraged. Original research is not allowed here, so any factual dispute that you have needs to be taken up with the source that was cited. Feel free to add your own positive edits to counter what you seem to feel are negative edits. As long as they are properly sourced, maybe they will help balance out the page. There are obviously some articles on Wikipedia that are entirely negative towards the source. There are some very notable criminals that have their own articles that would probably prefer for the entire article to be deleted. But, as long as general reporting and information from reliable sources is cited, the information should remain. BigDwiki (talk) 02:36, 22 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
BigDwiki Just as a reference, defamation[1] is defined as "the action of damaging the good reputation of someone; slander or libel" and slander [2] or libel are defined as, "the action or crime of making a false spoken statement damaging to a person's reputation." In both cases, the statements which were edited were not only clear and exact actions that would rise to the level of defamation and slander but more importantly to your point, had no reference or source materials and were clearly someones "original research". If the bar is to be statements made only in the case of clear and unfettered, accurate, reliable, unbiased source material then the nature of the article was severely lacking in all of those requirements.Doublehelixguy (talk) 02:54, 22 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
DoublehelixGuy, I'm just a simple person, and your sentences are way too long for me. Ima just point you to WP:NLT and tell you that I will block you if you fall foul of that. BigDwiki, I cannot come up with any good reason for you to be hanging out on this talk page; it would be a really good idea for you to stay out of this matter and the article. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 21:53, 22 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
