Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

I'm going to add the Adam West and Burt Ward information back. It's in the movie. An article online was released about 20 minutes ago. It's Gizmodo. Unfortunately I'm not able to add the link as I am on a mobile device. If you could do that it would be much appreciated. If not, I understand but it is legitimate information. Thank you. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 17:25, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

An audio clip doesn't make them a part of the cast--much like all the other clips in the move (such as Dean Martin's Matt Helm film). DonQuixote (talk) 21:46, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Good point. However, they will eventually be added on IMDB as archive footage voices. What part of the page do you think the information should be in? Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 21:59, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Probably Production or Cultural influences provided that it's written at a level above trivia. DonQuixote (talk) 22:04, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Cool. Thanks. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 23:21, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

The Ty Hardin information is in the source that was cited. I'm not sure why you removed it. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 01:18, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

If that's in the source then restore it, but the Natalie Wood claim needs to be properly cited. DonQuixote (talk) 01:35, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

I've added the reference but it won't show up because of the reference tag. Do you know how I fix this? I've tried multiple times. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 02:18, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

If you add a reference to the reference section with a name tag (<ref name="blah">blah blah blah</ref>) then all you need to do is to use that same tag whenever you want to refer to it (<ref name="blah" />). DonQuixote (talk) 06:34, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Thank you. Unfortunately I think my misunderstanding of references is more complicated but I'll figure it out. Thanks for getting back to me with the information. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 14:40, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi again. I'm hoping to clear something up. We have to use the exact words that are in the source? Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 14:57, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Not the exact words per se but the exact meaning. "Inspired by" is a different meaning than "echos". That is, only the Tarantino can say that it was inspired by while Vulture can note that it echos. DonQuixote (talk) 15:10, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Not only are there various articles about it. But the scene in the film is so clearly a reference to her death. Now, I understand your perspective and what you're saying and I think it's fine the way it is but are we not allowed to use common sense? Do you think it's not common sense? A huge part of this film is how it pays homage to classic Hollywood figures and occurrences. Again, I think it's fine. I'm just curious about your thoughts. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 15:21, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

It's not about common sense, it's about verifiability. Encyclopaedias work by citing and summarzing reliable sources. Following that avoids original research in every article. DonQuixote (talk) 15:26, 11 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for adding the citation. Also Capucci is the character. So she can't model the character. Hence why the edit says Capucci is modeled after. It can say Izzo modeled the character after but honestly it's splitting hairs and the first one sounds better. But saying Capucci (the character) modeled herself after anything is completely wrong. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 00:04, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for correcting me on that. However, technically we can't say that the character was influenced by such and such because the sources state that the portrayal was influenced by such and such. Again, the meaning of what the sources say is important. DonQuixote (talk) 00:12, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Please read the second source again. I believe you are misreading it. It says Capucci (the character), played by Izzo, is influenced by Loren and Cardinale. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 00:21, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Unless it's directly quoting Tarantino, all we can say is that the author at NBC News thinks the character was inspired by Loren, et al. We need to remember to cite sources with a finger on due weight. DonQuixote (talk) 00:30, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

It's credible though. The interviewer is speaking to Izzo who stars as the character in the film. A direct quote from Tarantino isn't the only credible source of information. It's a reliable source. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 00:36, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Also. It never said Tarantino was influenced by, so even if it's just Lorenza Izzo who drew influence from the actresses for the character, Capucci is still influenced by Loren and Cardinale. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 01:53, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

One last thought on the topic of Capucci. We can leave it as specific as it is. However, once a character is portrayed from a script the influences the actor draws upon are just as important as the writer, and it's ultimately a collaboration between the actor and the director drawing from the written material. The character is a projection of many influences, in this case real life ones. Perhaps it's better for it to be specific but I'm not sure. Thank you for working with me on this. Samurai Kung fu Cowboy (talk) 03:19, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Joker and rotten tomatoes

I see that you have removed my edits of adding the 90% audience score from rotten tomatoes. I have read your reasoning for its removal and you are simply not correct. I can tell you this as a film critic of over 20 years.

Rotten tomatoes recently implemented measures to ensure that audience reviews are done appropriately. Furthermore, the film has been in theaters for 2 weeks and has broken countless records. The audience score is important with any film. As that is what creates cult classics.

You assertion that people on the critics side of rotten tomatoes are film critics is also patently false. Many reviews posted on that section are biased political fluff pieces done by individuals you have seen maybe 200 films in their lifetime. That's a very lacking level of criticism. Therefore, suggesting that audience opinions are of less value than "critic" opinions is simply not true.

Furthermore, anyone suggesting cinemascore has a method that is superior to any aggregator is not only laughable, it shows a complete lack of understanding of the film review medium.

Finally, the joker is a highly contested film politically. For wikipedia's own good and place as a neutral site, both scores are necessary to provide wiki reader the complete picture.

Sincerely,

A very dumbfounded film critic and editor. Killercarlson (talk) 17:35, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

You reverted my 'Easter egg link'

Hello there. I noticed that you undid my edit on Bohemian Rhapsody (film) because you recognised it as an Easter egg link. I do understand why you thought that, but I personally think that there's enough information in my revision for it to not be one. It explains that they released an album. In this context, I don't think you'd need to know specific details on that album. Sorry if I'm bothering you, just wanted to see what you'd come back with and such. Cheers🍻GOLDIEM J (talk) 21:43, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

A general reader will not know that the album refers to The Works unless they hover over the link. DonQuixote (talk) 02:00, 17 November 2019 (UTC)

Happy Doctor Day

Hello DQ. Well six years today ago we were at the tippy top of the timey wimey 50th anniversary celebrations. It will always be a special memory that we fans saw The Day of the Doctor at the same time all over the planet :-) Things are quieter now but there is still a little extra joy when the 23rd falls on a Saturday. Have a fun one!! MarnetteD|Talk 05:34, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi again. Here is another treat for your DW day. Earlier this year I picked up this and this neck tie. Fun stuff. If you've watched Good Omens in episode two Pulsifer is wearing the first one :-) Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 19:02, 23 November 2019 (UTC)

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well DQ. MarnetteD|Talk 23:06, 18 December 2019 (UTC)

The Master

Hi, I can't seem to leave you a direct message, but the updates I have been making to the page of The Master are cited, and use sources allowed under Wikipedia's terms. Please stop changing them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheMonkey45 (talkcontribs)

The Mirror source does not say anything like An implication is made that The Master has taken possession of O's body by shrinking, and presumably killing, the original O, and then stealing his form. So citing them for that is dishonest. And AintBanksy is not considered a reliable source, so it can't be used at all. DonQuixote (talk) 19:42, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

Crossover title

The crossover title is Heroes v. Aliens. If you want a reliable source, look at the CW. There is nothing more reliable than the people who made the crossover. Don’t “correct” me talking about I don’t have a reliable say when you are literally allowing false information. Arrowversefanatic2002 (talk) 22:51, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi DQ

I hope you are well in these troubled times. I saw this edit summary and I wanted to mention that the way they were able to restore the colo(u)r to those Pertwee episodes is one of the most amazing things I've seen in my history with the show. I've read about the tech used more than once and I still don't completely understand how it was done :-) Stay well and safe my friend. MarnetteD|Talk 16:10, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Edit warring

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on List of Doctor Who villains; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Woody (talk) 14:15, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Clark Kent

Are you seriously trying to claim that this has nothing to do with Smallville? 2001:BB6:52F1:AB00:8DC3:69FB:77C4:579B (talk) 18:39, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

It's not as important as you claim (you would need to cite a reliable source for that). See MOS:REALWORLD. DonQuixote (talk) 18:42, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
How is it not important? It is the most-recent appearance of the actor as the character, reprising their role for the only time since the series finale. 2001:BB6:52F1:AB00:8DC3:69FB:77C4:579B (talk) 18:47, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
If it's important, than you would be able to cite reliable sources saying that it's important. Please do so. DonQuixote (talk) 18:49, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
I have, and you keep removing them. If the actors and writers themselves talking about it are not considered reliable (which they are), than what is?2001:BB6:52F1:AB00:8DC3:69FB:77C4:579B (talk) 18:51, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
The sources are not saying what you're claiming they say. Please cite a source that says anything like "It is a stand-alone special serving as an epilogue to the Smallville series" or it's actually a part of the production of Smallville. None of your sources actually say anything like that. DonQuixote (talk) 18:54, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
I did not say the second part, and they do not need to be that for it to be mentioned at List of Smallville characters. That refers to characters introduced in Smallville, which includes Weiling's Kent and Durance's Lane. Regardless, I will get you the epilogue reference. 2001:BB6:52F1:AB00:8DC3:69FB:77C4:579B (talk) 18:57, 13 July 2020 (UTC)
I know that you didn't say the second part--that's what's required of you to support your edits (per MOS:REALWORLD). DonQuixote (talk) 19:00, 13 July 2020 (UTC)

Karen Gillan...

If you are going to enforce this, then you will need to go through and edit Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Nick Jonas, and both of the Jumanji articles... I was only trying to standardize it compared to all of the other related articles on Wikipedia... - Adolphus79 (talk) 05:16, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

I have no interest in those other articles. If you want to standardise it in spite of the manual of style and the current consensus, you can always start a request for comment. DonQuixote (talk) 05:19, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
I see nowhere that a consensus was reached to have her listed as Martha (played by another actress), nor can I find any information in the MOS that says anything about listing by correct character names. The MOS argument would quickly be shot down by every actor who was "uncredited" in a movie but still has it listed on their article, and it would seem the consensus (considering every other related article on Wikipedia) would be to list the "in-game" character names. Please show me where this information is found in the MOS or where a discussion regarding the topic was discussed and a consensus has already been reached if I am wrong. I can find zero discussion on the talk page, zero mention on the other articles, only a commented statement on her article alone saying not to list her by her character name. This is kind of the point of being bold, just because one editor commented into the article not to change it, does not mean it is right, or can't be changed... - Adolphus79 (talk) 05:36, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
I also do not see how WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS relates... - Adolphus79 (talk) 05:38, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Looking into this further... I can see nothing in MOS:REALWORLD that says not to list the correct character name, I see nothing in WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS that even closely relates to this specific edit (I'm not trying to create a new article for a non-notable character), and I see zero discussion or consensus regarding her (or anyone else's) character name in the movies. Specifically, of the 12 articles on the topic (10 actors, two movies) that I just looked up, it would seem the "consensus" is to list the actors by the correct character names (including Colin Hanks, who was uncredited). If nothing else, standardizing her character name to match each and every of the other articles on the topic would seem to fall more closely under WP:COHESION (and/or possibly WP:INACCURACY or uniformity if we are going to read between the lines), rather than her article alone being different. Again, please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe standardizing the information we have across all the articles of a topic is the correct thing to do here, not to have one article out of 12+ with different (incorrect) information. - Adolphus79 (talk) 06:43, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Ok...missed the point. Other-stuff-exists is in-and-of-itself a weak argument without other things to back it up. In other words, try using another argument that's stronger.
Also, in terms of the real world, it's best to go by the credits as it avoids original research, specialist knowledge and in-universe POV. As for consensus, in this article there was a handful of editors who reverted Ruby Roundhouse to Martha in the original movie--I'm just following consensus. As for other films, there's a consensus to write per credits in film articles such as Rise of Skywalker (Palpatine), Wonder Woman (2017 film) (Diana), Star Trek Into Darkness (Khan), to name a few off the top of my head--so, I'm just following the consensus with regards to those too. DonQuixote (talk) 08:21, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Nah, not here to argue anymore, I'll save the silly bureaucracy of this place for other editors... if logically wanting to standardize information across a topic, and not have one of 12+ articles completely different from the rest is not enough, you can do with it as you please... good luck and happy editing... - Adolphus79 (talk) 15:33, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Blast from the past

Hello DQ. I hope you are well and safe. I saw this edit summary and had to stop by with a Dr Who memory. I don't know if you are watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. IMO their final season has been a ton o' fun. The episode As I Have Always Been involves them being caught in a time loop. I was immediately reminded of Meglos where the Dr, Romana and K-9 are caught in a chronic hysteresis. There have been numerous time loop stories since Meglos - I thought the AoS episode came up with a clever (and heart rending) way have resolving the situation. Cheers to ya. 16:21, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Hahaha. Yeah, I've been watching that and I do remember "chronic hysterisis". Thanks. DonQuixote (talk) 16:28, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

You were too fast

Thanks for the revert DQ. I was leaving a long winded edit summary which is why you beat me :-) Here it is sine you might find it a bit of fun "rvt - you missed the date of the report being April 1st - there is a long history of these April Fool's Day pranks - first one I saw was Dr Who monthly announcing that unused footage of Hartnell would be spliced into a story with Peter Davison" Cheers and happy holidays. Dr Who Xmas fun

Hello DQ. I hope you've had a nice Xmas. I stumbled on this delightful Dr Who parody. They know the show well. That is Petra Elliott and I spent some time looking at other songs she has sung and she is quite the sassy and bawdy entertainer. Enjoy :-) MarnetteD|Talk 01:06, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

BvS dream

I was reverted by you because I wrote that Bruce dreams about the bats elevating him to the surface, with the argument that it was my original interpretation. However, his narration explicitly says that it's a dream: "In the dream, they took me to the light; a beautiful lie." WKMN? Later [ Let's talk ] 18:51, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

List of films considered the worst - Southland Tales

Hi, you've been reverting my edits in the List of films considered the worst, specifically you keep resisting the addition of the film Southland Tales. I feel that you have with good intentions but that you have not taken the time to read the sources cited, (the links work, I've checked them all). I invite you to take your time and read out each of the articles and to further discuss the issue in the List of films considered the worst talk page, (as not the engage in an edit war). Kind regards --March Fox (talk) 17:24, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

The Guardian link doesn't work and the Ebert link doesn't even exist. The other articles are interviews with cast and crew and not critical analyses. DonQuixote (talk) 17:39, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for adding the Ebert link, but it still doesn't call it one of the worst movies. You're performing synthesis where you take a bad review and infer that it's one of the worst movies. DonQuixote (talk) 17:44, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

The undoing of Kung Fu.

Greetings. I have observed you undid my editing in the Kung Fu 1972 TV series, on the grounds of it being a self-published, not reliable/reputable source. The context is: Kung Fu has become a polemical TV series, mostly for having a white actor playing an Asian character, also because its mistakes add to the misrepresentation of Asian culture and people in American TV and movies, which is a problem not only of that series but also of other productions, and which has continued until present times. The point of the paragraph is the "interchangeability" of Asian cultures, as presented in American media. The references present critiques to that behavior, from international sources. All of them are, basically, opinions.
The last addition was a critique of the movie 47 Ronin (2013 film), by Shogo Yamaguchi, not the actor, but a Kioto resident, with working experience in tourism, a trainee in Iaido, Sado, and Noh. He presents his resumé at the beginning of all his long videos; an unusual trait among YouTubers. When it comes to the misrepresentation of Japanese culture in an American movie, can it be considered that a Japanese man, who professionally has worked in explaining his culture to visitors, and who regularly trains in Noh theatre, the tea ceremony, and katana swordsmanship, is an unreliable source? If this article were an academic analysis of misrepresentation of Asian culture in the American media, at the sociohistoric level, of course the references should all come from peer-reviewed, academic sources. Here we have a Japanese citizen, with an above-average knowledge of his own culture, criticizing a film for doing what the paragraph is about: presenting Asian cultures as "interchangeable," by mixing and mistaking key elements of one of them, precisely the one in which the author is knowledgeable.
I sustain that the source, given the scope and level of the discussion (TV and movies) is reliable, and that being self-published is not a fatal defect: if Mr. Yamaguchi had presented his commentary in a TED talk, and the source was the TED website instead of YouTube, would the quality of his analysis be any different?
Could you please explain which part of Mr. Yamaguchi's commentary on the movie and its misrepresentation of Japanese culture disqualifies him as a reliable source regarding his own culture? Thanks. Maykiwi (talk) 20:50, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

It doesn't matter what he says, it matters that he hasn't published in a reputable source nor does he have a reputation as an expert. That's the dividing line that separates a "nobody" on the internet vs someone that can be cited by a tertiary source like Wikipedia, I'm afraid. DonQuixote (talk) 21:07, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

The Evil Dead

I understand your concern here, but could you give me a chance to consolidate and reduce the text per your concerns about length? I'd rather not reinstitute a number of impenetrable and poorly constructed sentences before I started work on the section, as well as a plot summary that has daggers appearing out of nowhere, characters shooting each other without mention of when a gun appeared in the story, and so on. In addition, the summary as it existed used vocabulary from elsewhere in the franchise that simply doesn't appear in this movie and goes unexplained in the article, such as "Deadite". I'd like to take a crack at addressing your concerns and reducing the amount of text, but with those sorely needed improvements in place. Thank you. Hi

References are provided in the article and it was not and on and off relationship. Why still citation is needed?

Many articles don't provide references. Example: Kylie Jenner, Caitlyn Jenner, Kris Jenner

. Shkuru Afshar (talk) 12:11, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

Per template:infobox person: "partner" here means unmarried life partners in a domestic partnership, where A domestic partnership is a legal relationship between two individuals who live together and share a common domestic life, but are not married (to each other or to anyone else). People in domestic partnerships receive benefits that guarantee right of survivorship, hospital visitation, and others.
You would need to cite reliable sources supporting that rather than just 'dating'. DonQuixote (talk) 12:39, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

Is copying the resources from the article to the infobox is enough? Shkuru Afshar (talk) 22:38, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

No. Please reread the above, particularly the definition of 'domestic partnership'. DonQuixote (talk) 23:00, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
