Hello, I'm Alessandro57. I noticed that you recently removed content from Strongyli Megistis without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Your edit at Strongyli Megistis

edit

Dear new user, you are right: The automatic message that has been left on the discussion page is generic. There are two reasons why your edit has been rollbacked: the first is that the island is located a few hundred meters from the Turkish coast and most of the people who pass by it are tourists on Turkish boats, so they have useful information for a discussion with the Turks (who don't know it as Strongyli, just as Kastellorizo is Meis for them). There is also a historical reason, as the island has been Turkish for hundreds of years. So, as you can see, the information is educational. The consensus followed by discussions among Wikipedians about the islands in question is to put the Turkish name of the islands but not in the lead. I hope it is now clear why your edit has been rollbacked. If you don't agree, you can open a discussion on the talk page of the island, but please leave the stable version in place. Repeated reverts are considered edit wars and can be reported. Cheers, Alex2006 (talk) 04:35, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Dear Dikaion, thanks for your kind message. Actually if you want to open a discussion about this argument, which I welcome, the right place would be in this guideline. In fact, if we start a discussion at the Strongyli article, since this is not exactly a famous island, it is unlikely that other people will notice it, but we need the opinion of many people in order to build a consensus. Moreover, the same problem occurs for many other island - Greek and Turkish, and also elsewhere. Therefore, if I were you I would start a discussion with a subject as "Names of Aegean islands" (altough Strongyli lies in the eastern Mediterranean) or something like that. Consider however that the usage of the foreign names in the geographic articles are regulated by this guideline, and change a guideline is very difficult.
